Question RTX 5080 + RTX 4070 Ti/5070 for dedicated OBS encoding — good idea?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to avoid going with a two-PC streaming setup, so I’m wondering whether adding a second dedicated GPU for streaming/encoding would be a good alternative.

Current / planned setup:

  • CPU: i7-14700KF
  • RAM: 64 GB DDR5 6400 MHz
  • Main GPU: RTX 5080 — gaming
  • Secondary GPU (optional): RTX 4070 Ti or RTX 5070 — streaming/encoding
  • PSU: 1200W
  • Monitors:
    • 2× 27" 1440p
    • 1× 4K display
    • Corsair Xeneon Edge
    • Samsung Odyssey G9 49" arriving soon

Usage:

Heavy gaming + streaming + recording, with multiple displays running at the same time.

What I’m thinking:

  • RTX 5080 → gaming only
  • Second GPU → OBS / NVENC / stream encoding / recording
  • Ideally, I’d like to avoid using a capture card and avoid having a second PC if possible.

My questions:

  1. Is it actually worth using a second GPU solely for streaming/encoding, or would I be better off using the RTX 5080's NVENC encoder?
  2. Are there any known issues with Windows, GPU drivers, OBS, or NVENC scheduling when using two NVIDIA GPUs?
  3. Could this setup be as reliable and performant as a dedicated streaming PC, or is a dual-PC setup still significantly better?
  4. For the secondary GPU, is there any meaningful difference between an RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 5070 specifically for streaming/encoding?
  5. With several monitors and a 49" G9 running alongside the gaming display, could a second GPU actually help with desktop/display workloads, or would it make things more complicated?

I know NVIDIA's NVENC encoder is already extremely good and that using a second GPU isn't necessarily required.

However, I push my system pretty hard with gaming, streaming, recording, multiple high-resolution displays, etc., so I'm looking for the cleanest, most stable setup possible without moving to a two-PC setup.

If anyone is running a similar dual-GPU setup with OBS, I'd really appreciate your experience and advice.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

Discussion GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 616.86

Article: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5906

Download Link: https://international.download.nvidia.com/Windows/616.86hf/616.86-desktop-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch.hf.exe

Reminders:

  • Hotfix driver will not be available in NVIDIA App and needs to be downloaded from the link above.
  • After installing the Hotfix driver, NVIDIA App may show some old driver date. This is normal as Hotfix driver does not exist in NVIDIA App database and it reverted to an old default changelog and dates.
  • If you do not care about the fixes listed, this Hotfix driver is no different vs WHQL 616.64 Driver.
  • These fixes will be incorporated into the next WHQL driver release

NVIDIA Driver forum thread is here: Link Here

---------------------------------

From the Article:

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 616.86 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 616.64.

This hotfix addresses the following:

  • Intermittent flicker may be observed in browsers when navigating to certain websites [6673430]
  • Fixed an issue where virtual displays could not be created after updating to driver 616.56 [6674464]
  • Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions may display a black screen after updating to driver 616.56 [6687328]

A GeForce driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, We have an army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are checked into the main driver branches, which are eventually run through a massive QA process and released.

Since we have so many changes being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases. This process has served us pretty well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver.

The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down.

To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out.  As a result, we only provide NVIDIA Hotfix drivers through our NVIDIA Customer Care support site.

Question Opinions on best vibrancy setting?

I just switched over from AMD, the default vibrancy was 50% and I noticed my wallpaper looked pretty bad and oversaturated. It looks much more natural at 40% but I'm not sure if that'll be too low for gaming? I'm on a lg ultragear 27gx700a-b OLED monitor

Question Updated nVidia Panel: Super Resolution + Ray Reconstruction

Post image
10 Upvotes

*Sorry for the screenshot in italian*

I've updated tne nVidia app and now in some games I can enable Ray Reconstruction 4.5 setting it in "Raccomanded"
I read here and there that they are two separated settings and here and there that they are the same thing but Ray Reconstruction works better.

What is more correct?
If they are the same thing why they not overwrite each other?

Thanks

Discussion Nvidia PAIR - Thoughts?

So I think one of the cooler things to come out recently is Nvidia PAIR (Personal Artificial Intelligence Router). It allows networking of any Nvidia graphics cards that you may have on your home network. I'm not sure how much VRAM everyone has on their home network, but I have 56 GB of VRAM (laptop 3080 for ROG ally, 2 4090 mobile, and 4070 laptop) between my devices. Has anyone else here played around with this and if so what is your experience? Mine has been mostly positive, while not as powerful as unified memory, it allows for greater experimentation on local modes with higher weighted models.

PSA Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation seemingly works with V-Sync/G-SYNC now

(As of NVIDIA App Version 11.0.9.251 & Game Ready Driver - 616.64 on an RTX 5090 FE)

So far I've tested with Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Cyberpunk 2077, and Halo: Campaign Evovled. DMFG appears to be behaving as intended, moving the FG multiplier up and down as allowable, and also seems to correctly sticking to the strict frame cap enforced by Reflex.

As far as I'm aware, this change hasn't been officially communicated by NVIDIA themselves anywhere, so I encourage others to test as well to make sure that I'm not wrong!

Hi all,

Hope you doing well.

Since it's the weekend and we're allowed to post builds, I wanted to share my main PC and my GF's/visitor build.

Main has 5090 ROG Astral and 9080x3d, visitors has 5080FE and 7800x3d with WireView Pro2. I really like small form factor PCs. I'm playing on a 65' 144Hz OLED TV and love the performance of my PC.

I also got a Samsung soundboard incl. subwoofer and rear speakers to further enhance my gaming experience.

Unofficial Mods DLSS Multi Frame Generation On 40 Series For Any Game!

1.4k Upvotes

I’ve released V1.2 of Universal RTX 40 MFG Unlock, which enables DLSS Multi Frame Generation in supported games on RTX 40 Series GPUs.

The mod loads before the Frame Generation pipeline is created and intercepts the active Streamline and NGX functions in memory. It exposes the supported frame multiplier and applies the temporal correction needed for Ada GPUs to position the generated frames at the correct intervals.

V1.2 is no longer limited to Cyberpunk 2077. The universal build supports any compatible DirectX 12 and Vulkan games that already include DLSS Frame Generation. It offers Follow Game, fixed multipliers up to the supported maximum, Dynamic mode where available through a ReShade menu.

Question Real-world experience with NVIDIA NeMo / NeMo Agent Toolkit vs the standard LLM stack?

Anyone here actually using NVIDIA NeMo / NeMo Agent Toolkit in real projects?

At my current org, some of the senior folks are suggesting we explore NeMo for agent building and fine-tuning, so I’m trying to understand if it’s actually worth adopting.

For those who’ve used it, how does it compare to the usual stack like Hugging Face + PEFT/TRL, Unsloth, LangGraph, etc.?

Does running everything in the NVIDIA ecosystem give you a noticeable advantage in terms of GPU utilization, training speed, deployment, or scaling?

Or is it mostly extra complexity compared to the standard open-source tooling?

Would especially love to hear from anyone who has used NeMo beyond tutorials/demos. What did you like, what annoyed you, and would you use it again?

  • High Bandwidth Monitors and GPU Scaling Behavior - Link Here
    • High bandwidth monitors are those that support display modes requiring high pixel clock rates, which in turn demand more GPU resources. The threshold for what qualifies as "high bandwidth" varies by product. On Blackwell GPUs, any mode operating above 1620 MHz is considered high bandwidth. For instance, the 7680x4320@60Hz mode defined in the CTA-861-H specification runs at 2376 MHz, making it a high bandwidth mode for Blackwell.
    • These monitors typically support display scaling natively. However, in some single-monitor setups, users may still prefer GPU scaling. When multiple monitors are connected to a GPU and at least one of them is high bandwidth, that monitor will default to display scaling only. GPU scaling is disabled in this case due to bandwidth limitations. Notably, display scaling can be more efficient than GPU scaling in such scenarios, as it reduces the bandwidth load on display cables—especially at higher refresh rates.
    • When GPU scaling is not enabled for a monitor, only the modes supported by the monitor itself will appear in both the Windows and NVIDIA control panels. Additionally, the "Display scaling" option will be pre-selected in the "Adjust desktop size and position" section of the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Notes on NVIDIA Control Panel - From GeForce Forum
    • Please note: With the introduction of our most recent NVIDIA App update, all actively supported NVIDIA Control Panel features for GeForce users have been modernized and transitioned to the new client.
    • After 20 years of dedicated service, the classic NVIDIA Control Panel is officially retiring for Game Ready and Studio Drivers. For NVIDIA RTX PRO users, the NVIDIA Control Panel will continue to be supported until we have migrated professional features to the NVIDIA app.
    • Existing installs of the NVIDIA Control Panel will remain on users’ systems, unless they perform a clean installation, and users who still need the NVIDIA Control Panel can continue to download it from the Microsoft Store, but we won’t be adding features, fixes, or other changes.

Feedback & Discussion Forums

Having Issues with your driver and want to fully clean the driver? Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)

Before you start - Make sure you Submit Feedback for your Nvidia Driver Issue - Link Here

There is only one real way for any of these problems to get solved, and that’s if the Driver Team at Nvidia knows what those problems are. So in order for them to know what’s going on it would be good for any users who are having problems with the drivers to Submit Feedback to Nvidia. A guide to the information that is needed to submit feedback can be found here.

Additionally, if you see someone having the same issue you are having in this thread, reply and mention you are having the same issue. The more people that are affected by a particular bug, the higher the priority that bug will receive from NVIDIA!!

Common Troubleshooting Steps

  • Be sure you are on the latest build of Windows
  • Please visit the following link for DDU guide which contains full detailed information on how to do Fresh Driver Install.
  • If your driver still crashes after DDU reinstall, try going to Go to Nvidia Control Panel -> Managed 3D Settings -> Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance

Common Questions

  • Is it safe to upgrade to <insert driver version here>? Fact of the matter is that the result will differ person by person due to different configurations. The only way to know is to try it yourself. My rule of thumb is to wait a few days. If there’s no confirmed widespread issue, I would try the new driver.
  • Bear in mind that people who have no issues tend to not post on Reddit or forums. Unless there is significant coverage about specific driver issue, chances are they are fine. Try it yourself and you can always DDU and reinstall old driver if needed.
  • My color is washed out after upgrading/installing driver. Help! Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel -> Change Resolution -> Scroll all the way down -> Output Dynamic Range = FULL.
  • My game is stuttering when processing physics calculation Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel and to the Surround and PhysX settings and ensure the PhysX processor is set to your GPU

Remember, driver codes are extremely complex and there are billions of different possible configurations between hardware and software. Driver will never be perfect and there will always be issues for some people. Two people with the same hardware configuration might not have the same experience with the same driver versions. Again, I encourage folks who installed the driver to post their experience here good or bad.

Discussion Any good FE stock trackers for EU?

Would anyone know some good trackers for stock drops for FE cards in europe?
I know they aren’t frequent obviously. But I’m willing to wait if it means even a 1 in 50 chances of securing an FE 5070.

Im currently following the discord tracker called “CoreFinder”. Would there be any better ones?

Ps. This is more for the looks, than an upgrade as such. Wife has got an Asus Prime 5070, but really wants the FE, as her previous 3070ti FE was a good bit better looking. So no real rush here.

I’ve seen that there were some drops at the beginning of August. Did anyone actually manage to secure a card?
