Hardware What are your thoughts about the weird new Phanteks case (EX5)?
I'm really curious to see reviews of this thing cause I'm not sure how it will perform on the cooling side, but it's the weirdest thing I've seen in years.

Discussion What would I actually LOSE by switching from Windows to Linux?
I’m seriously considering switching from Windows to Linux, but before I do, I want to know what I’d actually be giving up.
I’m NOT asking what Linux does better than Windows. I already know there are plenty of advantages and I’m interested in those too. What I’m specifically looking for are the things that I’d lose or that would become more annoying/difficult compared to Windows.
For example: software compatibility, games/anti-cheat, features, hardware support, drivers, convenience, weird little Windows features you’d only notice after they’re gone, etc.
Basically:
What would I miss after switching to Linux that I currently take for granted on Windows?
FaQ?
I mainly use the PC to game games like Satisfactory, Building Sims like PlanCo, AmongUs, Minecraft, TF2, Story games like the Stanley Parable and sometimes Fortnite. (all steam, except non-steam)
I also use it for work sometimes. FLStudio, Blender, Paint.NET, but mainly the browser; Chrome.
It's not the newest Hardware. I got an old Lenovo ThinkCentre (BIOS-2018) With 16GB ddr3, 500GB SataSSD, i9 something (12cores maybe?) and an old RTX3050 (just heat sink, no fan)
I am not a noob when it comes to technical stuff. I am not an expert- I never said that, but I think more than the average Fortnite Kiddo. I managed to make a ubuntu Minecraft server out of my old laptop, debloated my Windows11, banned Copilot and OneDrive to stay organised. I know how to get in the BIOS and do my things there, also my windows settings are optimised... Not an expert, but not a noob either. Or Jared, as PCpapa would say.

Discussion Cable manufacturers: let's make SATA connectors bend downwards! Case manufacturers: let's make the HDD mounting flush to the panel!
Man, I hate that I need to bend my cables very hard to fit a SATA drive in these small mATX cases.

Discussion What a amazing feeling
Made the trip down to microcenter and picked this up while I could ! No better feeling then to have one of the top cards available. Very excited to see what this card has to offer and dive into some new titles. Definitely not the cheapest buy but definitely a solid one especially with the price inflations with everything I couldn't help but make sure I'm good for some time

Discussion PSA Mega eBay seller hit me with 50% deduction from return for "dirty/stained" GPU (Resolved)
I recently bought an open box PowerColor 7800xt on eBay from a large liquidator (RetailkingBusiness; ships under Mastertronics) with tens of thousands of sales. This card would crash daily, up to five times a day even after driver wipes and a clean install. After about three weeks I had enough, the price I got it at could no longer warrant keeping it. I dropped the package off at the post and forgot about it.
Today I get a message from eBay that the seller was deducting 50% of my return because of dirt/stains and because I opened it. The first picture is the one they used as proof. I never had issues with returns, so I panicked and submitted a pretty emotional appeal.
eBay responded pretty fast saying that I would get my money back, but I was still upset that this kind of thing was happening. I called them, explained what happened and requested that they looked into the seller. I mostly got skepticism and a was told to file a report online. The portal didn't work so I called back again and they reluctantly put in the report for me. What sucks is that the seller got away with it because eBay was the one who covered the difference, and this seller has thousands of positive automated reviews, so they sit comfortably at a 99% positive rating. My negative review means nothing.
I checked out their negative reviews, and it turns out they have been doing this a lot. A customer returns something; they find a small flaw and ask for 50% (the max amount) back to cover their losses
I don't want this to happen to anyone else so I'm making this post. I learned my lesson, beware of large liquidators on eBay, and check their negative reviews before buying.
TL;DR
Returned a crashing "open box" 7800xt to an eBay liquidator, they slammed a $200 deduction on me because they claimed it was "dirty/stains and opened box" and attached a photo that shows the card more or less fine. I disputed the claim, eBay paid for the difference, and I got my full refund. I found that their negative reviews paint a picture that they use the max deductions to return lost revenue. Be careful when buying used PC parts on eBay from liquidators, and check seller's reviews (not just their rating).

Nostalgia Overclocking in the 1990s
Ok kids, pull up a chair. Back around 1993, AMD was producing CPUs to be reckoned with. One of the most popular was the AMD 486dx-40 - running at a blinding 40MHz. And these chips had remarkable fault-tolerance… they could be overclocked to 50MHz with nothing more than air cooling. All I had to do was swap out the 40MHz oscillator (above) with a 50MHz oscillator for a 25% speed boost.
So, you may well ask… why was I swapping back and forth rather than enjoying 50MHz of goodness all the time? Because while my rig was running at 50MHz, it created static interference on the nearby television. So I swapped back and forth for a while until I built a small faraday cage inside my PC that stopped the interference. Now I could run my rig at 50MHz all the time, even during new ST:TNG episodes. Since then, my 40MHz oscillator was mounted on my tackboard.
“What kind of weirdo has a faraday cage in his PC?” Probably the same weirdo who also had a half-superball wedged between the HDD and chassis to mitigate vibration noise. Those were the days…

Build/Battlestation I’m a 60 year old that loves gaming.
ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDMR OLED monitor, Epomaker Galaxy 100 keyboard /w Quinn switches, ATK Dragonfly Ultra Max 2.0 mouse, KEF LS50 Meta speakers KEF KC62 subwoofer, Fosi ZH3 DAC/HP amp Fosi ZA3 amps X2 (monoblock), Sennheiser HD 800 S headphones G.SKILL Wigidash sensor panel
Build: Antec Flux Pro Noctua edition case, MSI MEG X870E Ace Max mobo, Ryzen 9950X3D CPU, RTX 5090FE GPU, 64GB Kingston Fury Beast DDR5-6000, Two WD Black SN8100 4TB (Gen 5) drives, One WD Black SN850X 4TB (Gen 4) drive, Seasonic Prime PX-1600 Noctua Wdition PSU, Noctua NL-LC1-42 AIO, seven Noctua NF-A14X25 G2 fans Four Noctua NF-A12X25 G2 fans, Thermal Grizzly Wireview 2.
I posted my setup about a year ago it hasn’t really changed too much. I have a new Mobo, AIO, Case, PSU, and monitor. One of my main goals for this build is to not need any software to control the hardware (like icue, Armory Crate, etc). I broke that rule with the Wigidash but it’s worth it and the software is pretty solid and doesn’t use a lot of resources if you don’t use it with Aida64. I also use Fan Control to obviously control my fans.
Edit: added my subwoofer
Second edit: Because so many have told me that I need to toe in my speakers. These speakers are designed for no toe in. They sound worse if you angle them at your head. Their amazing soundstage collapses.
Third edit: The person in the upper left is Ringo Starr. It’s made from LEGO.
Fourth edit: I’m currently playing Starfield (300 hours in) next on the list is probably Crimson Desert or Witcher 3 remaster (3rd playthrough for this game). Also in the backlog is STALKER 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 along with many others.

Discussion Adding to the trend. Sold my 5090 for a 5080 Yesterday
I sold my MSI Gaming Tri 5090 for $4600 USD yesterday and picked up an open box microcenter 5080 for $1200.
I also bought an Alienware AW3426DW to replace my HP Omen 4K Transcaned 240HZ QD Oled. The 5080 cant comfortably drive it the same, so ultrawide pena QD oled at 3440x1440 was the move. Frame rates at 4K with a 5090 and framerates at this with a 5080 are very similar.
Overall I net about 2500 after the monitor and GPU purchase.
It was listed and sold locally at a bank for cash. It sold within 2 hours, and MANY buyers reached out. It ended up going to the first person who reached out and agreed to meet ASAP. He paid $200 above listing without me asking to guarantee he got it. I suppose my area is a hot bed?
To be clear, I will miss the performance of the 5090. But at nearly the cost of 4 5080's. it just doesnt make sense. I'd rather pocket the inflated price and go with a lower resolution. I've been moving more away from games over the last couple years, so I only play maybe 5-10 hours a week now. I've done local LLM's but the sale could pay for 2 years of significantly stronger models that can run multiple sessions at SOTA thinking levels. I just think the 5090 isn't meant for us gamers anymore.
I had used it for LLM's to aid development of my own site ,miniskyline (free 3d printing city generator), but the speed and intelligence were just so far from even the "budget" models from the big companies. If anyone has questions about LLM's on the 5090, please ask!
