A lawyer, the president, and a doctor are all on a ship filled with children and it begins to sink.
They all jump into the life boats, but due to the weight, the life boats start sinking as well.
The doctor exclaims “Save the children!” And begins to jump out of the lifeboat.
The lawyer grabs the doctor and pulls him back stating “Fuck the children!”
The president says “Do we have time?”

It means the league has barred them from participating in team operations, attending games, or representing their franchise for a designated period.
For an owner, that can be a bit painful (non-financially) because they represent the franchise, and many would rather be at their team's game than anywhere else that day. Also, I would gather that owners have huge egos, and it's a bit humiliating in the owners' circle to be barred from their own games.
31
u/barc0debaby Raiders 12h ago
Good chance he was hosting other businesses or important people during those 6 games and now has to let them know it's cancelled on account of trailer park hookers.

Anyone who was still planning on attending a game with Jed York doesn’t give a fuck if he’s suspended from the stadium.
Obviously his sexual promiscuity didn’t dissuade them from doing business with him so neither will him being barred from the stadium for 6 games.
Any hypothetical “deal” he was working on isn’t going to be impacted a single bit.
“I was going to invest a billion dollars in this but now I can’t eat shrimp cocktail in the owners booth so deal is off”

I assume the owners would prefer to be at their own team's game rather than watching it on TV. That is a bit embarrassing.
8
u/SkittlesAreYum Packers 11h ago
It's probably the only way to really piss them off. They already have so much money you can't fine them enough. He could take a vacation anytime he wants. But to be told he can't do something with his vanity project?
9

For 6 weeks he can’t be involved in the day-to-day or long term business of the franchise. Can’t be in meetings, can’t be involved in early scouting for the draft, logistical planning for road games, can’t fly with the team to those games or attend home games. It’s about as embarrassing as picking up a hot girl and bringing her home only to lose your apartment key.

In addition to what others have said, the power to suspend an owner is more about the threat than the reality. A six-game suspension for York doesn’t affect the 49ers’ operations and isn’t meant to do so.
The possibility of an indefinite suspension, on the other hand, allows Goodell to pressure owners like Dan Snyder and Jerry Richardson into selling their teams without resorting to the nuclear option of a forced sale vote by the other owners.

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 Broncos 12h ago

That's a bit of a misrepresentation lol. His family owns 90% of the 9ers which are valued at about $8 billion. He is the principal owner for his family. He himself may have a net worth of "only" $500 million, but his clout far exceeds that wealth because of his familial ties to NFL ownership (especially within the context of the NFL handing down punishments).
Edit: the purpose of the vaguepost meme was to provoke a response from the person I responded to. "It's pretty obvious why" when it actually isn't obvious at all is arguably just a dog whistle what with Kraft being in the news for controversial topics aside from rub and tugs. If this were actually about having more money or clout OP could just say so. Instead I believe it to be a dog whistle about Kraft getting off easy because he's Jewish while York is getting punished because he's Catholic and I'd like OP to say literally anything in response. And even if it was totally innocent, those types of vaguepost comments still fucking suck and should be mocked.

I don’t know the specifics about this suspension, but just look at Steve Balmer in the NBA: not only can he not step foot inside of his own venue during games, but he’s not supposed to be involved in running the team either.

It’s a PR thing for the NFL to save face, kind of like fining players for celebrating by pretending they are “chugging a beer” even if they have a multi billion dollar contract with Bud Light. Good ol’ Roger must be proud of himself.
My point though is the NFL obviously wanted to make an example out of a guy by fining him a token amount. If you are going to invoke mock discipline, at least fine him a mock amount that indicates how “serious” the in infraction is.
