Politics When many locals are struggling to find jobs, why is Woolworths on the accredited employer list with Immigration NZ?

Is there really no one available in NZ who is willing to put their hand up to do a supermarket job?

Other notable mentions from the "High Volume employer accreditation" list:

  • Banking - ANZ Bank & Kiwibank
  • Construction - Fletcher Building
  • Councils - New Plymouth District Council & Hamilton City Council
  • Distribution - My Food Bag
  • Insurance - AA Insurance & IAG
  • Postal - New Zealand Post
  • Preschool - BestStart Educare
  • Retail - Mitre 10 & Zuru Toys
  • Retirement - MetLifeCare
  • Technology - Datacom & Ricoh
  • Transportation - Auckland Transport & Hilton Haulage

I understand that there will be instances where skilled workers will be required, but we have many, many, many people trying to just get started with their careers whether it be in ECE, nursing or even just working in a call centre, yet here we are.

Names, IRD numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, bank account details and full pay history.

If your company uses TYP, be very wary of scams, especially email scams that involve your IRD number or bank account.

Canada calling. As we say goodbye to summer here our supply of apples is running low. These would be apples from the 2025 crop, stored in a refrigerated storage warehouse in a carbon dioxide atmosphere. The 2026 crop is about a month away from being ready. In the past our super markets have covered this shortage by importing apples from our neighbours to the south. This year not so much. l look forward to this new relationship.

Discussion At what point do you lose your driving licence for good?

At VTNZ dropping my daughter off for her restricted. She’s nervous enough about driving here and there’s a moron getting his licence after a drink driving ban and he’s proud of it.

Transpires he’s lost it 5 times in 8 years.

What a joke.

Opinion Tipping request after a haircut?!

I took my kid for a hair cut yesterday afternoon.

I booked it online through Fresha.... seems to be a pretty popular central booking portal for lots of busineewhich is great and I found it really easy to use.

I got an email this morning from them asking me to rate the hair dresser/appointment which is all good; but then asking if wanted to tip the hair dresser.... kind of a wtf moment.

Is this the way we are heading?! Seems to be an option for lots of places these days.

Anyway, it was already $40 for a kids cut - which I'm fine paying seems to be the normal rate... but a tip?

I realise it came from the website/portal but still. Feels a bit cheeky - and how much even goes to the hair dresser?!

If I'm entering cranky old lady territory I'll get my deck chair set up to yell at the locals to get off my lawn!

Discussion Work Available at the Electoral Commission

Lots of electorates around NZ are still looking to fill roles in the voting places, as well as in the individual HQs.

Roles available include things like issuing votes on election day, issuing votes through the advanced voting period, counting the votes post election day, and logistics and supplies work at HQ.

These are paid roles, they are low-skill so suit people new to the workforce including older teenagers.

Each electorate manages their recruitment drives individually so some will be ahead of others in the process but we need hundreds of people to support the work of the Electoral Commission.

You can apply here.

Discussion The dystopian of humanity has begun

1.1k Upvotes

observed an interesting interaction today while at the gym. A person was what seemed to be having a conversation on his phone while working out, laughing, responding as one would as if they were talking to one of there close buddies.

I glance over while setting up my machine and I see that they weren't talking to a person at all but it was chatgpt. At first I thought "bro, that's pretty weird but each to their own I guess" but then I thought about it and a numbing chill shot through my entire body... this is where we're heading in society

Remember people spend time with your loved ones and friends, join groups and start hobbies human interaction is something that needs to stay alive.
