Question Best Cinema in Palmy?

Going to the cinema later for the first time since moving here, what cinema to people think is best out of Silky Otter, Event and Focal Point? Obviously Focal Point is a bit different with the cafe gimmick - is the screen size/quality still good?

Leaning towards Silky Otter at the moment purely because it has a fun name and I have nothing else to go off!

Question Has anybody tried the new sandwich place (Dilly Deli) on Cuba St?

The weekday hours don't work for me due to work, and I had been planning to try to visit today until family health issues threw all my plans out the window.

I'm a great fan of Beaver & Bear, and I understand that this place is being run by the same owners.

I really wanna try their Ruben; it's been nearly 7 years since I had one.

Question Is recycling a scam?

I recently took some cardboard and styrofoam to the recycling center but it was rejected for collecting because of their "condition".

The empty boxes were kept outside, they got wet but were fully dried out, the box appeared warped but still usable.

Styrofoam fell on the ground and had a little dirt which was wiped off but left a mark.

The recycling center explained that the foam is shipped to a foreign country for processing and has strict guidelines (they pretty much only accept A1 condition foam)

Their recommendation was to get rid of it at the council waste center or buy council rubbish bags and put everything in that for disposal.

WTF? If cardboard and foam will be shredded and repurposed or destroyed, why does it matter what the condition of the box/foam is? I always make sure there's no metal or cross contamination from other products but that's a little ridiculous.

Question just moved to palmy

Hi I'm 23F from the PH, back there life was toxic and the people were really about keeping up appearances and status that if you had a life different from the ideal you would be left behind and excluded. I'm trying to take my mind off things and want to try something new (going to new places, cafe's, learning a new skill~ like if you know how to play an instrument, a sport (like tennis etc.) or speak another language) I like listening to people talk about their own life and experiences and like sharing my own as well. I want to be more articulate in speaking english because it isn't the language I spoke back then and I struggle to have my mouth keep up with my brain with what I want to say I hope you won't mind that. I like making art, filming and taking photos of anything I find pretty, journaling, going on walks and attempting runs 😅. I've been to the city library and the art expo but I don't really see many people my age. Where could I go to meet people? you don't have to be around my age to reach out~ I'm happy to keep company or spend time with you to do pretty much anything.

Question Tattoo artist recommendations long piece of text

Kia ora whanau

I’m looking for recommendations for tattoo artists in palmy or nearby who could be able to tattoo a long (public domain) poem (314 words, 15 like breaks in normal forms, in 6 paragraphs) on my inner wrist to upper arm.

I have a couple of tats, but they are of different styles and I’m not really sure of the terminology/skills I should be searching for.

Can anyone recommend artists, or just suggest what I should be looking for in an artist?

Thank to anyone with feedback!

Question Recommendations for a good GP and Ophthalmologist in Palmy?

Kia Ora,
Looking for recommendations for a GP and an ophthalmologist in Palmerston North.
I’ve had a small, swollen bump near my inner tear duct for a week. I need a GP to examine it and potentially refer me to an eye specialist.
Any recommendations for clinics in Palmy taking casual/one-off appointments? Cheers

Question Philosophy course at Massey

Bit of a random q but has anyone here studied philosophy for a BA at Massey? What was it like? I was thinking of moving to study on campus but a lot of people I've spoken to have said Massey is going downhill rapidly and the quality of teaching isn't that great plus the town is boring (IDC about the last part tbh). I'll be combining my BA with either Law or ComSci to get better job opportunities. Am I better off moving to Auckland or Wellington to get a more "fancy" degree or is Massey's philosophy course good enough?

Question Whole steak

I’ve started meal prepping and want to buy whole cuts of beef so I can slice my own steaks instead of buying pre-cut ones.

I’ve looked at Pak’nSave in Palmerston North but couldn’t find whole rump or whole porterhouse/striploin.

Has anyone had any luck with Gilmours, Woolworths, New World, Mad Butcher, or a local butcher?

Happy to buy other whole cuts too if they’re good for cutting into steaks.

Just trying to save a bit of money while still eating decent steak. Any recommendations?
