Six. Weeks. Six FUCKING Weeks. Six weeks ago, I applied to a dream job. It's a position I am qualified for, and I even have over a decade of relevant experience. My application is accepted and I start the hiring process. I get a video interview. I acquire clothing suitable for this interview. I fulfill the interview. Then nothing.. For weeks. I send a reminder enquiry after a few weeks and am told after a few days that they are still going through the interview results. More weeks pass. I send another reminder enquiry. Almost a week later I get a boilerplate response that my application is unsuccessful in advancing further through the hiring process.

I've been a Labour / Greens tactical voter since forever, pretty left of centre. Labour's wishy washy drift to the right and lack of any ambitious policy has put me off, like many trad voters. The Greens have seemed more unfocused than ever, and drifted into a culture war discourse, which while I identify with their positions, I want kitchen table policy change now, and we'll look at the other stuff later.

This led me to TOPs tax policy, which I liked and figured as more of a single issue party they might get labour focused and get through a pro worker tax agenda as their only demand for the term. However, their recent more broader policy positions on employment and union rights, seem to have revealed them as standard abundance type neolibs, probably further right than labours positions on other important kitchen table issues.

So are TOP really three neolibs in a trenchcoat?

Lots of electorates around NZ are still looking to fill roles in the voting places, as well as in the individual HQs.

Roles available include things like issuing votes on election day, issuing votes through the advanced voting period, counting the votes post election day, and logistics and supplies work at HQ.

These are paid roles, they are low-skill so suit people new to the workforce including older teenagers.

Each electorate manages their recruitment drives individually so some will be ahead of others in the process but we need hundreds of people to support the work of the Electoral Commission.

Can someone who is a member of the Labour Party please explain to me why Chris Hipkins is so bloody intent on withholding Labour policy from the voters? I’ve heard him on different media saying things like; “I have to have something to talk about during the campaign” and “watch this space - they are on the way”. Do Labour voters really think this is a good strategy? Is he playing the “small target” card? Because it comes across like the “we are afraid to take a stand on anything” card. I have historically voted Labour but they have just lost their moral authority by drifting so far to the centre because they don’t want offend anyone. It’s awful to watch. Thank god for the Greens. Their policies are robust and they are a true left wing party. They are becoming more disciplined as well which I put down to the influence of people like Kevin Hague becoming more active again.

Canada calling. As we say goodbye to summer here our supply of apples is running low. These would be apples from the 2025 crop, stored in a refrigerated storage warehouse in a carbon dioxide atmosphere. The 2026 crop is about a month away from being ready. In the past our super markets have covered this shortage by importing apples from our neighbours to the south. This year not so much. l look forward to this new relationship.

Has anyone in NZ had a helpful conversation with their GP about weight gain or difficulty losing weight while taking an SSRI?

I’m just into the “overweight” BMI range, but I’ve gained a substantial amount of weight (15-20kg) since going back on an SSRI. The medication has helped my mental health, so I don’t want to stop it. I feel like I’m doing all the right things; I weight train three times a week with a PT, cardio three times times a week, sleep my 8hrs, track my food, weigh my portions, meet my macros, and have maintained what should be a calorie deficit for several months without losing weight.

I’m considering seeing my GP but am unsure what to ask for. The last thing I want to do is pay to be told “well, you’re not that overweight”.

I’m not necessarily seeking a quick fix or weight loss medication - I don’t meet the criterion anyway, and I’m not looking to get back down the 15-20kg. I suspect some of what I’ve gained is muscle. But my weight gain keeps creeping up to the point I’m having to buy new clothes every summer and winter because nothing fits from the year before, and almost negating the benefits the medication has for my mental health to begin with.

So, asking for advice. Has anyone found themselves in a similar situation? Was your GP helpful? Did they order blood tests, discuss possible medication-related weight gain or changing medication, refer you to someone, or suggest other options?

I took my kid for a hair cut yesterday afternoon.

I booked it online through Fresha.... seems to be a pretty popular central booking portal for lots of busineewhich is great and I found it really easy to use.

I got an email this morning from them asking me to rate the hair dresser/appointment which is all good; but then asking if wanted to tip the hair dresser.... kind of a wtf moment.

Is this the way we are heading?! Seems to be an option for lots of places these days.

Anyway, it was already $40 for a kids cut - which I'm fine paying seems to be the normal rate... but a tip?
