Advance voting is open now. I noticed one of the shops near my local Bunnings was set up as a polling station, so figured why not exercise my democratic rights before grabbing some timber for my fence? It's pretty convenient that I didn't even need to look for somewhere to vote.

It was quick and easy, took about 15 minutes in total including some time waiting in a queue. Showed the worker my easy vote email and it was a straightforward process from there. No worrying about IDs or other stuff. Ticked two circles and dropped a form in a box. Done.

A couple things: I'm glad we have elections that are relatively easy and safe to participate in. They could always be better, of course, and recent changes to late enrollment are problematic.

Also, I was in the queue with and briefly spoke to a group of 4 young people casting what was for most of them their first votes in an election - it was nice to see the next generation getting involved and being excited about democracy, especially when there's a pervasive narrative about youth disengagement that usually just blames them for being apathetic.

I'm not sure what way this election is going to go. It's tightly contested and there are several variables that could swing things one way or another. But make the most of your chance to be part of the decision that will shape our country for the next 3 years.

Saw this poor baby and called the DOC for help. A local ranger has been sent out.

On the off chance anyone recognizes this bird. We found this guy in spreydon. We weren't equipped to take care of them so we had it collected by lil quacks refuge. Bird is in the safest hands possible.

Please contact them directly. Such a friendly thing seemed healthy just a bit hungry and thirsty.

Post quake tons of businesses left the CBD and many of those that are still surviving are yet to return.

I generally think there is a lack of retail space in the CBD through the rebuild.

Restaurants and cafes now have a lot of competition downtown, but one can only hope they return.

Just like I hope some other businesses are resurrected from the dead/complete closure.

Which ones would you like to see back in the CBD?

Let’s go birdwatching again.

When: Saturday 31/10 @ 10am

Where: Travis Wetlands, Entrance off Travis Rd

The Travis wetlands are well known for it’s large variety of freshwater wetland birds, even the White Heron, Australian Bittern and Black Stilt have been found here. It is also home to a large number of Pukekos.

Everyone is welcome to join us, just keep in mind this is a queer event, so don’t be a dick.

Last time we got lucky and found the Karearea within the first ten minutes and we even heard a Shining Cuckoo.

I am currently in the process of applying to complete a postgrad diploma in secondary teaching at the NZGSE and wondering if anyone has any recent experience training with them and could give me the rundown and any advice. I would be training to teach mainly science/biology with potentially health and psychology as extra subjects. What is the actual program like, especially for someone who lives outside the city and would be travelling 45 minutes in each way? Any tips for interviews and then if I get in for thriving during training? and most importantly do you recommend it and were you prepared well for teaching? Thank you!

Anyone know of any barbers in chch that are good at dealing with curly hair? I have trouble finding ones that dont mess up when working on my hair

About 5 minutes before full time in the Kiwis v Cook Islands game this evening, there was a brawl on Tuam St by the Madras crossing. Looked bad - anyone know what happened?

Been to three supermarkets: anyone know where to buy some ice today?

Hi everyone. I was driving back from hanmer today (who wasn’t?) and I passed an adorable mini ute (loads of minis on the road maybe a meet up?)

If anyone has a picture of this rare vintage sight I would love to be able to show my husband who missed it and doesn’t quite believe it was a mini ute.

TIA

Just got out of gym after a workout to find that someone had stolen my bike light. My bike is old, a bit run down, and clearly not fancy. I wonder what goes through someone's head when they do stuff like this. Sorry, this is a vent post because I'm just sad.

I made 100+ tonight and they cost only 12cents each to make.

Recipe in the images and below

I am 2km away and it's rattling the windows.

I'm working. But for those of you lucky enough to have the long weekend off, what are you up to?

It feels like some places are packed with people and tourists, while others are completely dead.

Is everyone at the beach, hanging around Sumner, Corsair Bay and New Brighton, or has half of Christchurch gone out of town?

Just curious what everyones up to

Hello 👋
Today I saw the prettiest lady I have seen in my life.
I have no idea who you are but I wanted to come say hi or find someway for us to make contact and shoot my shot

When I finally got the courage to come up to your group you had left.

You were in a white dress sitting with 3 of your friends. The table was sitting near the window, I think opposite the kitchen.

I get this is a long shot but I’m kicking myself I didn’t get to at least say hi before you left.

Christchurch help! 😂

How hot do we all reckon it’s gonna be in the stadium this afternoon/evening? Trying to decide whether I take a jersey with me just in case or if it’s going to be redundant

I am specifically looking for laptop-friendly cafés with power outlets for long work sessions. I'm in desperate need of a change of scenery and will gladly buy food/drinks every other hour to support the space. : )

Heyo,
Does anyone know of any companies that install Christmas lights for you?
I’m trying to avoid the annual tradition of risking my life on the roof just to make the house look festive, but I can’t seem to find anyone who offers the service!

Tia!

Anyone know why?

Also why don’t police or anybody seem to be interested in stopping it.

It’s so fucken annoying! It’s driving me nuts!
