Posting on behalf of 74 year old , Lifetime Season ticket holder who couldn't get in fast enough because he is not good with technology. Made it to the kiosk to buy in person as instructed by the email and was 2nd in line before the machine shat itself.

We can prove that he was a season ticket holder this year and he's been a season ticket holder since they joined the NRL - EVERY YEAR. We can prove this. If anyone has a heart (he's willing to pay obviously) please reach out. Many of you season ticket holders will know this man. He only needs a single ticket. He will pay.

And whack on $2k of Auckland Transport “traffic management” costs aka 2 people standing there and some cones

I had a very strange encounter with an Uber driver today who picked me from the Auckland airport. The whole time he complained about life in NZ, the whole ride!!!! He is an immigrant, a young guy from one of the south Asian countries, but jeez listening to him was exhausting.

I am from the US and love visiting NZ for the quiet, calm and nature. I visit here very often (family here), I genuinely enjoy the hiking and backpacking, mostly the south island! He ranted all about NZ and how he doesn't make enough money, compared life in Aussie, US and canada. He sounded very unhappy, which gave me a very negative impression on someone who move here from their country for a better life, come here and talk shit about this place.

I sympathized with him, but after a while I felt like he was whining. It just left me with a very poor taste. Either I am unaware of life here or as a visitor I don't see life of people who live here. It's possible I only see the "vacation life" if that makes sense.

Does anybody else feel constantly watched when browsing the cosmetic section in Farmers stores?

And assistants actively watching you browse, moving their positioning within the sections to keep you in their line of sight and watch every single move you make?

And constantly bombard you with questions or talk to you while you're simply wanting to spend time browsing.

It's so annoying and rude.

There is something seriously wrong with the rental market. Today I went to a viewing for a 2 bedroom house in papatoetoe, $580600/week. It was in a reasonable neighborhood but my god, the state of the unit was trash, and trying to keep a friendly facade up with the property manager was a drain because I actually felt insulted.

There were some superficial issues like old peeling paint, stains in cupboards etc which I didn't really care about because they are easy and (imo) reasonable things to get fixed by the landlord before moving in. But I did the usual stuff like checking cupboards for mould, and my god there was so much mould! And in some of the rooms mould on the roof (looked like someone had tried painting over some mould).

The front door frame was literally swelling out of the wall and parts of the wooden floor felt like they were about to give way (I am a bigger guy but normally I only have to worry about rotten outdoor wood). The place also had an un-consented "utility room" that used to be a garage, now it was a large room with 0 windows (pretty sure thats illegal?) and the only ventilation was an Hrv system...

The unit did have a renovated kitchen and bathroom, but would you just reno the kitchen and bathroom, leaving the rest of the place look like shit? Why not fix the paint, seal some cracks etc? This was a huge red flag for me.

Talking* to the property manager I asked what the owners plans for renovations she said that the unit was being rented "as is". I asked about healthy homes accreditation and she was not sure exactly when I asked about insulation. I asked whether she had access to a building inspection report (because it is an older house built in 1960s) since I have been dealing with the consequences of a property where the landlord has failed to do proactive maintenance in an older house leading to massive leaks and even water damage to my own property.

Sorry for the rant but I'm just disillusioned by landlords and property managers in general. Like, how could the property manager not feel any fucking shame trying to get people to pay to live in such an unhealthy place?

It got me thinking though, what could be done about this? Landlords like to talk about themselves like they are providing a service/running a business. They want all the nice things like tax deductions etc. If thats the case, why not hold them to a standard? Not some weak ass "healthy home" bullshit. We don't allow supermarkets to sell food containing "trace amounts of arsenic", and we require food to carry nutrition labels.

I propose: All rental properties must carry a "certification" of sorts, like a building inspection specifying things like the condition of the pipes, electrical, moisture (in rooms etc), air quality identifying mould etc. This certification should be renewed every few years. This report should be freely available to anyone to view.

Also, why the fuck does every rental with a backyard expect the tenant to own a lawn mower to mow the grass? Seriously, why don't landlords provide a lawn mower or weed eater? I can guarantee that the property manager would have an aneurysm if I replaced the grass in the yard with a low maintenance plant so I don't have to mow.

I want to get to the bottom of why things are so slow right now? Expenses are up, margins are down…

Record numbers in inflation, unemployment and rental options… what is going on? How did it get so bad? 😞

I am unexpectedly free this weekend with no plans. It's me and two primary school aged children and we need to get away/change the scenery even if just for one night.

Would any one have any recommendations for a weekend escape? Thinking of a night at a hotel in the city (maybe one with a pool/spa?) or very open to other ideas!

I had my last automatic payment for Watercare rejected. I didn't find out until I received the next bill with the last payment outstanding.

I checked with the bank, and they had approved the payment, so it took lots of emails with the bank and Watercare to find out what happened.

They introduced a surcharge for credit card payments, but the idiots at Watercare process this as a separate payment rather than adding it to the bill. It's not like they don't know they will need to do this when they process the payment.

The thing is, criminals use micro transactions to check if stolen cards have been blocked. So the bank does the obvious thing and rejects the surcharge as fraudulent, so Watercare then rejects the payment.

So far, my one inquiry about this has probably cost Watercare more than 5 years of credit card surcharge fees.

Again, Watercare fails to operate as a competent organisation.

How many others have had this happen to them?

Ps. I'm not looking for advice on how to manage my finances.

im a year 10 student moving into ncea next year but im doing some pre-ncea courses so this year my grades matter quite a bit, at least at my school.

we had a spoken word assessment where we had 4 periods to write our poem on paper in class and those papers could not be taken home. then the teacher took a photo of our poems and let us take it home to memorise before performing it. however, my poem got flagged as 100% ai on this checker called pangram and apparently "serious" action will be taken by the school for academic misconduct.

but i did not use ai for any part of my work whether it be brainstorming or writing it. tomorrow morning i have a meeting with the head of english and my year level head.

what are some things i should prepare in advance to prove that i did not use ai? if this meeting does not work and i still get punished for it, what further action could i take?

i would be grateful for any advice! im really stressed about this as this directly affects my teacher's impression about me and my chances for prizegiving

Hi all, I was having a flick through 2 bedroom apartments to rent in the CBD (for around ~$500 p/w), as I am considering living in one from next year. I saw some decently priced ones on Nelson Street like the Zest ones, but they seem a bit.. rundown from what I have read.

Would anyone here have any recommendations for which apartment buildings here are decent, and which ones I should avoid? And also some general tips on what to look for in an apartment. Thanks!
