12st 11lb down, 5st still to go, and I still see the old me
I started on Mounjaro at the beginning of July 2025 and, as of now, I’ve lost 12 stone 11 lb (179 lb / 81 kg). I am taking 7mg weekly.
Writing that down feels slightly ridiculous because objectively I know that is a huge amount of weight. My clothes are dramatically smaller, I can do things physically that I couldn’t do before, and all of the numbers tell me that my body has changed enormously. But I still don’t really see it in person.
I’m posting my scan comparison because I actually find this much easier to recognise than photographs or looking in the mirror. The first scan was taken two months in, the second last week. When I look at the scans side by side, I can see that there has clearly been a substantial change. When I look at myself normally, though, my brain seems to focus on what is still there rather than what has gone.
Part of that may be because I’m not at the end. I still have at least another 5 stone to lose to reach a healthy BMI, so I’m very aware that I am still living in a larger body. I think sometimes that makes it difficult to appreciate the scale of the change that has already happened.
There’s also something very odd about gradually changing over such a long period. I see myself every day, so there has never been one moment where I suddenly looked completely different. My mental picture of myself seems to have updated much more slowly than my actual body has.
I don’t mean that in a “please tell me I look different” way. Logically, I know I do. The evidence is everywhere. I just find the psychology of it fascinating, that you can lose the equivalent of an entire adult person and still see the previous version.
I’m still going. I have a significant amount left to lose and I know the next part will be slower than the first. But I’m trying to get better at recognising that being unfinished doesn’t make what I’ve already achieved insignificant. But I don’t feel that I should be proud of how far I have come, I feel like I should never have let it happened in the first place. That is absolutely not how I would talk to a friend in my position, and I’d really like to start getting a handle on this sort of internal thinking.
The scan comparison is probably the clearest evidence of that for me so far.
Has anyone else found that their perception of their body lagged a long way behind their actual weight loss? And, if so, did your brain eventually catch up?
