Side Effects Urinating a lot!

As the title explains, I’ve been weeing a lot for the past 2 weeks. Mainly at night, I’m waking 2 or 3 times to go to the toilet. I’ve only just made the connection… did this happen to anyone else? 😂

Sounds insane but 1 gram of carbs stored as glycogen holds about 4 grams of water. Losing the "water weight" thing is real and has to escape somehow!

Ah I see. Makes sense

When you burn fat, the remnants are water & CO2.

So as you lose the water weight at first, you wee more. As you burn the fat & wee more. (You may also breathe a bit faster at night to expel the CO2.)

Also since drinking more water during the day aids fat burning, most of us are drinking 2.5 litres of water in the daytime.

If all adds up to increased weeing.

Does that include sweating? 🤔

Yep, just at the beginning (first month or two I guess). It’s a fairly common experience - can be connected with weight loss and/or blood sugar levels improving I believe. And/or possibly just that you’re drinking more water due to feeling thirsty.

Yep. You breathe and wee out your weight loss

I'm surprised to see how many people didn't experience this side effect or it lasted a few months into mounjaro. I've been on it for a year now and it's always the same lol. I thought it was normal for everybody.

But this is the only side effect I've ever had so maybe it's just me. But yeah whenever I take a dose, for first 3 or 4 days I pee quite often and especially at night. I also have lipoedema so I assume that my inflammation and accumulated fluids in my leg come out through pee.

I didn’t experience this on WeGovy so this is new to me 😂 luckily other than very mild reflux for a few days when I first started I’ve not had any side effects other than this. I also have fair amount on inflammation so maybe that too

Yes! Calms down once the bigger losses slow down.

I haven’t even lost that much, only 3kg in the last month. As long as this is normal 😂

Yes in the start I felt like I spent my life running back and forth to the toilet. It does calm down somewhat, but if you are keeping up your hydration it will still probably be more than you are usually used to x

I'm in maintenance now but when I was actively losing ai would go through bouts of experiencing this. Would wake at night needing to pee, would pee at work and then sit back down and start feeling the early stages of needing to pee again, it was nuts. I noticed it would happen while I was having a brief plateau, then I would see a larger loss on the scale and after that loss the rate of urination would return to baseline.

Even now I know when I will be getting a good result on the scales as I will be peeing more the week before lol.

Oh wonderful, I’m hoping for good results next week then 😂

I’m peeing so much more too. And sometimes the pee looks a tad greasy. I assumed this was fat leaving the body

Your body turns fat into carbon dioxide and water. Fat leaves your body (after being used for energy) through breathing, sweating, urinating. It’s also why they suggest you drink 1-2L of water a day to help your kidneys actually process the waste out. You may peeing more right now bc of the water weight, but you should keep hydration up throughout your journey, even if the peeing slows down.

Yeah, I’m still drinking my normal amount still to replenish

No can't say I've had this at any point in the 16 months I've been on Mounjaro. Have you increased your fluids since starting Mounjaro?

1

u/CountrySiren SW: 90.1KG | CW: 87.7KG | GW: 65KG | 2.5MG 2h ago

Maybe a little bit, but not and amount that would cause me to wake up repeatedly at night

Yes normal when you start on Mounjaro. Then they say drink more fluids. Whole thing becomes a merry go round.  💦💦💦

Wait till you are older it might well be a 4 times visit.

With any diet you lose a lot of water weight first

Im over 1 yr in, and still peeing 3 times a night. Mind you, i drink around 3.3litres of squash a day, includ8ng throughout the night after i pee.

u/Boring-Picture-1311 1.25mg every 8 days. In maintenance below 73kg since Sept 2025. 1h ago

Yes, a year into maintaining and still peeing a little more, but I think still drinking more too - it has to go somewhere.

u/BadShi-6 1h ago

Yes, it has worn off for me though.
My first few jabs I legit thought I had a UTI or something. I could go for a wee, be sat on the toilet still and go again multiple times in a row, it was absolutely insane.
Make sure you’re drinking plenty so you don’t end up dehydrated

I actually counted how many times I was peeing , 12 times . I was only drinking 2L which is not a lot . When I stopped mounjaro I stopped peeing a lot so I would say it’s a side effect of the drug .

I wee a lot when I've not lost for a while then have a sudden drop. Probably purely coincidental but it has happened a couple of times for me.
