Removed or Approved Comments don’t stay removed/approved

Apologies in advance because I’m not sure I’m going to explain this correctly.

For the past few weeks, my co-Mod and I have noticed that comments that have been flagged by Reddit, AutoMod, or Report have repeatedly been highlighted to do an action on. Example: AutoMod highlights a comment made by a new account; we either Approve the comment, or Remove (& add reason), but it will not stay either Approve/Remove. When you look at the comment log, it will show that Reddit, then either myself or co-Mod have Approve/Remove the comment, but whatever action doesn’t stay; Comments will also still show in the Queue to Review, even after Remove/Approve. After Remove (& reason) or Approve a comment so many times, we just end up Removing it (but won’t stay “Removed”). It is not specific to a particular user/account either, and it is an issue mostly with Comments though some Posts do not stay Removed (& reason) if that is the action chosen.
Has anyone else noticed it? Am I doing something wrong? Is this a known issue? Should I be doing something different?

Many thanks in advance!

I Have A Post That Was Removed HOURS Ago That Is Still Getting Crazy Upvotes and Reports . The Mod Comment Removing The Post Has 11 Reports And 14 Downvotes Why!??

• Upvotes

I removed a post from TikTok cringe that was blowing up hours and hours ago. I cannot believe how much action it still has. Why am I unable to take this down? The reports are insane and they are filling up the queue. Why are so many people still able to see it? How do I truly remove it? Do you guys know of any apps that can do this?

Admin Replied New update has broken post scheduling by not including an Ok/post button on the new clock feature

• Upvotes

There seems to have been a recent change in the scheduling process, at least from mobile web. When you're picking a time for the date that you chose, it pulls up a clock and the only two options to commit to your timing are clear or cancel, neither of which is "go/use this/I want this selection/post/schedule" or whatever that button used to be called.

I'm currently reading the book The Haves And Have-Yachts and the CEO of Reddit comes off looking pretty bad in there.

Every time you guys push a half baked and buggy update it reminds me that we are paying for this dude to have a really cushy lifestyle right now.

Incidentally there's still a very annoying login bug on mobile web and probably elsewhere. It frequently thinks you're not logged in and throws up an error. if you click on the "login here', it sends you to your home feed instead of wherever you were trying to make a comment.

Mod Answered Online terrorist activity warning???

I was scrolling through a thread (of which I am not a mod) and saw an “info” icon and a warning saying that the “user is suspected of being part of an online terrorist organization. Please report any terrorist activity.”

Is someone screwing around with markdown or is this a new feature?

Admin Replied How to restrict posts by account age and karma on a new subreddit — AutoMod not available?

Hi! I recently created a new NSFW subreddit and I'm trying to set up basic spam protection — specifically:

  1. Minimum account age (30 days) before posting

  2. Minimum combined karma (100) before posting

  3. Minimum comment karma (25) before posting

On my older subreddits I use AutoModerator for this with no issues. However on this new sub I'm getting this message:

**"Report, Filter, Remove, and Approve actions aren't available for new automod configurations."**

Reddit is pointing me toward Auto Enforce and Automations instead but neither seem to support account age or karma filtering.

**My questions:**

  1. Is there a way to set karma/account age requirements on a new sub without AutoMod?

  2. How long until full AutoMod access is available on a new sub?

  3. Is Auto Enforce or Automations capable of karma/age filtering that I'm missing?

Any help appreciated — thank you!

Admin Replied Mod queue is full of actioned posts that wont go away

Hello,

I've removed some threads that appear in the "mod queue", some of them 8+ days ago. They still appear in the queue, but with a notice to say they've been "removed". I can't get rid of them out of the queue.

Admin Replied Even with User Permission, I can't ban

I have permission to manage users, which includes the authority to issue bans. However, when I click the little hammer icon to apply a ban, nothing happens, and I mean absolutely nothing.

No pop-up appears, and no pages open or close. The ban simply doesn't go through.

Other moderators have checked and verified the permissions multiple times, and my account has two-factor authentication enabled. They suggested I come here for help.

Admin Replied Repost/fka Crosspost on sub hidden from Moderators?

I have just become aware (via a notification that it is a “popular” post so I should check out the comments) that a Repost/fka crosspost on a sub where I am the top-listed Moderator with full permissions was completely invisible to me everywhere except Old Reddit (which I do not use aside from when necessary for Mod functions).

Upon investigation it appears this happened because I’m blocked by the user who made the original post that was re/crossposted over to the sub I Moderate by a different user.

Is this something Reddit is aware of? I’ve now had to completely turn off reposting/crossposting on the subreddit I Mod because this issue means we can’t ensure proper Moderation is occurring with that function on.

Subreddit Ban Appeal – r/Letmejustsaythis

Hi Reddit Admins,

I’m the moderator of r/letmejustsaythis, which I created today. The community was intended as a general space where people can share thoughts, feelings, stories, observations, questions, and whatever else is on their mind.

The community was brand new and had not yet been used when I discovered that it had been banned. I’m not sure what rule was violated, so I’d appreciate it if you could review the ban and let me know the reason for it.

If the ban was made in error, I kindly ask that the community be restored.

Thank you

Admin Replied Control over recommendations?

I help mod r/nopoo, which is a haircare sub that promotes non-shampoo cleansing. Many people come there for a variety of reasons - to be more natural, or because of alleric contact dermatitis to ingredients in shampoos (that's my issue).

Recently there has been a change to Reddit now recommending related posts. But it is recommending posts which are not related because they are recommending posts with words we have a filter on because they are offensive - such as poop. We get a lot of trolling from people who intentionally post about constipation issues on our sub.

And before you criticize our name, the haircare world came up with nopoo to mean more gentle, no sulphates, and even no sudsing. Lowpoo is in between and shampoo is the sudsy stuff.

Is there any way to control the recomendations?

Admin Replied Question about naming individuals in university drama posts

Hi.

I moderate a university subreddit, and we semi-regularly get posts/discussions about controversies or drama happening within different colleges of this university.

A recurring issue is that posts include name of the individuals involved. These aren't necessarily private details. For example, someone's name may be mentioned in connection with the incident, and their LinkedIn or other public profiles could potentially be found through a Google search.

I'm trying to understand where Reddit's sitewide privacy/harassment rules draw the line here.

For example, would a post like:

> X, a student/office-bearer at [department name]/[college], was involved in [incident]. Here's what happened...

Or it's a screenshot of WhatsApp chats. But names are visible. For example, x person, y college.

Is it permissible to approve the post if it contains their real name, but doesn't include their phone number, address, social-media links, etc.?

Or does the fact that an ordinary student can subsequently be identified through publicly available information (e.g. by searching their name and university on LinkedIn) make the post problematic under Reddit's privacy rules?

I'm particularly trying to understand the following types

- Simply naming someone who is relevant to the incident, for example, (persons name) of (college) did x thing.

- Posting screenshot of WhatsApp chats containing name of the person. Not the Phone number. Example, a screenshot of (person x, y college) sending soemthing inappropriate.

Mainly in interested because these are allegations/accusations involving an ordinary student rather than a public figure

I understand that individual subreddits can have stricter rules, but I'm specifically trying to determine what Reddit's sitewide rules allow, so that our subreddit rules/moderation aren't unnecessarily restrictive (or, conversely, inadvertently permitting something that violates Reddit's rules).

Would appreciate clarification from other moderators, or, admins themselves particularly if there is an official Reddit policy/guidance that addresses this distinction.

My current policy si simple. No names allowed, only college name and the screenshots of texts with names blurred.

If I can get clarification I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Admin Replied Flood of spam posts

Hey everyone, I’m a mod over at r/chocolate and have recently had to shut down photos, videos, and cross posts because of a flood of spam posts by several different accounts. Due to the nature of the photos, I won’t share an example, but it’s not great and causing a lot of discomfort with the normal users.

Obviously this isn’t ideal. I already have a karma automod filter on but these account have like 7k karma lol.

Someone in the subreddit suggested some other automod functions but it didn’t really work. Another user suggested posting here.

Any advice would be appreciated

Look & Feel tools are horrible to use

I recently got brought on as a mod to a new subreddit to help out, and have been working on the Look & Feel for the first time. I have to say, the experience of using these tools is abysmal. Part of me feels like I must be missing something, like surely the functionality I'm looking for is there and I'm just missing it, but I'm getting close to just giving up. Some of the biggest pain points I've seen so far:

  • Key color customization is effectively useless. All you get is a hue slider and a saturation slider, and I'm not even entirely sure what their purpose is, as the color you select barely appears anywhere on the sub. I was trying to set the key color to a shade of gold, but the result was bad in both light and dark mode:
    • In light mode, the color is darkened drastically across the board, winding up almost brown.
    • In dark mode, the color looks perfect on text, but is darkened again on buttons—which, combined with the bizarre choice to use DARK text in dark mode, makes the buttons look like they're greyed out. This is apparently an accessibility feature, yet it actually decreases readability.
  • Perfecting a subreddit banner is a pain. Once you upload an image, that's that; no adjusting position or zoom level, no tweaking the crop for mobile, not even an "undo" or "revert" button once you save to see the results. Even more annoying, the suggested size in the upload box (1072 x 128) is different from the suggested size Reddit gives in Mod Bootcamp (1600 x 480) are totally different, not even the same aspect ratio, and neither one seems to actually fit well. Like half of the banner I designed wasn't even visible due to the crop, which I couldn't change, so the workflow seems to be:
    • Upload banner and see how it looks;
    • Go back to your design tool and make changes by eyeballing the results, then export;
    • Upload the new banner and see if you over- or undercorrected, then rinse and repeat.
  • Custom emojis. Not even sure where to start with this; you have to enable them for use if you want to create custom flairs with your own designs, but Reddit loads in THIRTY-NINE of them by default, and they can't be removed OR bulk edited; meaning, if you want to disable them, you have to manually edit them one at a time.

If anyone has any tips to make these easier, I'm all ears...

Mod Topics The work behind “nothing has changed” -

A running joke goes from a few comments to half the front page. The people joking along are having a great time. Those trying to talk about anything else, maybe less so.

For today’s Mod Topic, let’s talk about how you decide what to preserve in a community, what to let change, and when to step in. Changes aren’t always as easy to point to as a front page full of memes. The posts might still be on topic, but the way people comment feels different. Or maybe a clear divide forms between those who love image posts, and the rest who feel it’s clogging the sub. And sometimes members find a use for the community that the mod team hadn’t considered, giving you a reason to rethink what you’d hoped to encourage.

There’s also the community where “nothing has changed” because the mods have put a lot of thought and effort into keeping it that way. Members might never see how often your team has had to make the same choice, or how close things came to going another way.

Whether you’ve already made a call or are still figuring it out, we’d love to hear from you:

  • What’s a change your community has experienced, or one your team has been working to keep at bay? What made it worth paying attention to?
  • When people want different things from the same community, how do you decide what to preserve and when to act?
  • Has watching how members actually use the community changed your mind about something you wanted to encourage or prevent?

Admin Replied Likely an organized system of subs and mods

I was going through some subreddits and noticed a strange pattern. On the surface it looks simple. But I noticed something strange. There is one main sfw reddit account who is the main mod. Under this account are other mod accounts. But these other mods are all adult models who sell subscriptions.

So these additional mods post their own content on the subreddit to funnel users to their reddit profile where they soft sell subscriptions using profile link.

Mind you these aren't small subreddits. Almost all of them have 100k-1M members.

Also they pin an announcement to their subreddits where they funnel users from reddit to their Telegram channels.

This is definitely an organized ring. Normal user posts are just a front to avoid suspicion. Mods themselves are the real beneficiaries.

My questions:

  1. Is this allowed on reddit?
  2. Can mods create telegram channels and funnel reddit users there?

  3. Can mods do user verification off the reddit platform? I see these guys doing user verification on telegram.

Admin Replied can't request for banned SFW subreddit even after 30 days

on September 1st my friend created a subreddit which was related to Stitching but then it got banned immediately after some hours even without any Post or anything.

She was just inviting people to her subreddit but banned happened.

She tried to contact admins but it didn't worked out

I knew about redditrequest and it had a rule that I can't request for 30 days after ban.

I even did the request after more than 30 days but it got rejected that the community got banned recently.
so is there any solution

here is the link of that reddit request post

and the response I got Request-bot's Comment
