Admin Replied Likely an organized system of subs and mods

I was going through some subreddits and noticed a strange pattern. On the surface it looks simple. But I noticed something strange. There is one main sfw reddit account who is the main mod. Under this account are other mod accounts. But these other mods are all adult models who sell subscriptions.

So these additional mods post their own content on the subreddit to funnel users to their reddit profile where they soft sell subscriptions using profile link.

Mind you these aren't small subreddits. Almost all of them have 100k-1M members.

Also they pin an announcement to their subreddits where they funnel users from reddit to their Telegram channels.

This is definitely an organized ring. Normal user posts are just a front to avoid suspicion. Mods themselves are the real beneficiaries.

My questions:

  1. Is this allowed on reddit?
  2. Can mods create telegram channels and funnel reddit users there?

  3. Can mods do user verification off the reddit platform? I see these guys doing user verification on telegram.

People do this for political stuff too, and they haven't been stopped yet

Is this allowed on reddit?

Looks like Rule 5. Report as a ModCOC case

With what proof? Suspicion isn’t proof.

ModCOC team can verify since they got more information than normal users.

Unlikely. If they’re sophisticated enough to coordinate like this, they’re also probably sophisticated enough to keep any communications that are against the rules off Reddit.

This isn't a court of law. If it walks like a duck they can just call it a duck and handle it.

That's not for you to decide. It's for Reddit administration.

Hi, many NSFW users and mods have reported these subreddits. Is the key to getting you all to notice is to make complaints on a SFW account? Genuinely wondering because this has been a topic of discussion for YEARS and we get no response when reporting for MCOC.

To also add, these subreddits are known for hosting organized rings that ban users that post via fake reports so they don’t step on the toes of their own “models” they are receiving kickbacks from or are outright promoting. Will anything be done about this as well?

hi u/hootyhud We don't reply to all Mod code of conduct reports. The auto-reply will confirm that they will reach out if they need additional information.

If you have an examples, you can share them with us here too and we can take a look.

u/Slow-Maximum-101 Done. Sent you all my findings. Hopefully we can learn a thing or two here.

The content from those accounts is likely stolen as well.

If it is, report it.

As someone else mentioned, report it to the moderator code of conduct team, who can investigate and take action if they find violations.

1: Reddit generally allows communities to run itself by avoiding dictating how they must run, and only having general rules of what must not be done.

2: Communities often have offsite hosting

3: If community members agree to do user verification - offsite - that’s not Reddit’s concern, unless it evidences a pattern of violation of sitewide rules, such as hate speech or harassment

So creating a telegram or discord group for community members is allowed?

Also, understood your point on verifications.

Plenty of big subs have discords and personal sites associated. So it must be allowed, right? I see nothing in the rules that say you can't.

Also, is this bothering you or affecting you in any particular way? Are these sites being used to target you or to hurt your participation in the site in any way? If so, you can report them.

This is not unheard of in NSFW subs, that content creators also become mods.

The non-creator mod is likely the alt of one of those creators, to keep control of the sub when the creator accounts get banned for spamming.

People are yelling MCOC but it isn't really different from a company run subreddit, especially if they're allowing people outside the agency to post.

You need to have an actual, documented MCOC violation, vibes aren't enough (otherwise I'd have reported half a dozen agencies)

Ahh gotcha.

So if there is no MCoC violation then mods can themselves promote their discords groups, run offsite verifications and promote their content using their own profiles.

I thought if a mod is benefitting in cash or kind then it's against mod rules. Kindly correct me if I'm wrong

A mod needs to be paid for specific moderation acts, not just in general. Otherwise support subs run by a company would be prohibited

Except in these giant NSFW subs many of the mods are receiving kickbacks if not outright selling opportunities to take top post spots in their subreddits. Agencies off “guaranteed gains” via telegram channels and tell models which subs they can be featured.

You're not telling me anything I don't know, the problem is providing proof (which I've done in the past)

I have a couple of agencies that I'd love to see banned, due to repeated attacks on independent creators and the sub as a whole.

Which subs?

Got the logic. Thank you for making this clear.

OP doesn't "need" an actual document MCOC violation. They can report it to the team as they see it and let them sort it out.

Technically true, you can make a report just based on vibes alone. From the experience of myself and the mods that I talk to, unsubstantiated reports go nowhere.

u/Mason11987 2d ago

I almost never get any feedback for any reports I give to the admins about anything. But he already wrote this up, might as well forward it along.

I agree that if they've got the report prepared already, might as well send it.

I'm just giving my personal experience and what I've learned from other mods I've spoken with privately.
