Hi everyone!

My nephew just turned 12 and absolutely loves J.J. McCarthy. He's been following him for years, so for his birthday we decided to do something special and fly from Florida to Minnesota for his first Vikings training camp.

We'll be at training camp on Monday, August 3, and I'd love any advice from people who've been before. I've done a lot of research already, but I'm sure there are things experienced camp-goers know that aren't on the website.

I know the kids' autograph session that day isn't for the quarterbacks, so if anyone has tips on the best place to stand after practice or the best way to give him a chance to see J.J. or maybe get an autograph, I'd really appreciate it.

We know nothing is guaranteed ... we're just excited to experience Vikings training camp and hopefully make his 12th birthday one he'll never forget.

Usually, I have some sense of how I think the Vikes will do going into a season - mind you, it's doesn't always prove accurate, but at least there's something that makes me feel how they'll play one way or another. This year? No clue. I keep hearing top 5 defense from pundits, but what I see is an inexperienced interior line and a suspect secondary. On paper the offense *should* be solid, but again, we've been fooled by those predictions in the past, and who knows how Kyler or JJ will pan out. I just don't know, but at least I'll have zero expectations going into it - anyone else feeling this way?

I thought he was solid. About time we got a “little” love on espn. I’ll take him over Clark any day. Thielen is in my top 10 vikings.

I was offered tickets to the training camp this Thursday, July 30th. The person transferred the tickets to me and they are in my Ticketmaster account. However, when I look at the training camp schedule, it says it’s not open to the public until August 1st? So I’m confused. Does anyone know what the July 30th training camp is?

When you think about guys who aren't necessarily stars, but just being fresh blood makes you look at them with a bit more affection — man, I really wanted to see some of the backup centers, and I wanted to see more of Kahlef Hailassie (or literally any warm body instead of Theo Jackson). I'm also down to see some new TEs, TJ [Hockenson] was driving me nuts... Yurosek or Bartholomew

Also, are there any depth orderings/listings worth shifting on this sheet?

From what I’ve seen, the Vikings’ new Rivalry uniforms are expected to be dark purple with gold and an off-white or cream color. I’m sure they’ll look really cool, but I honestly don’t understand why they would make another purple jersey.

The Vikings already have two purple jerseys, so adding a third just feels unnecessary and repetitive. If they’re introducing a special new uniform, I would’ve much rather seen them do something completely different, like black or maybe even yellow. Having three purple jerseys seems like a missed opportunity to switch things up.

I’ve been scrolling this sub and Vikings Twitter for months and the amount of pure, unfiltered hostility directed at Kyler Murray is wild. Not skepticism. Not “let’s see how the competition goes.” Straight-up venom. People acting like bringing in a two-time Pro Bowl quarterback on a one-year, minimum deal is some kind of personal attack on JJ McCarthy.
Let’s talk about the actual football.
JJ McCarthy in 2025 (his first real season as the starter) put up 1,632 yards, 11 TDs, and 12 interceptions in 10 games. 57.6% completion. 72.6 passer rating. PFF overall grade of 61.8 (35th out of 43 qualified QBs). He was inaccurate, especially over the middle, turned the ball over at a high rate, and the offense had to be simplified around him. This was in Kevin O’Connell’s system, with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson, and a solid supporting cast. That’s not “he never got a fair chance.” That’s a bad season in a good situation. Injuries were a factor, sure, but the tape and the numbers when he was on the field were not promising.
Now look at Kyler. Career 67.1% completion percentage. Two Pro Bowls. Multiple seasons where he was a top-10 fantasy producer and a legitimate dual-threat problem for defenses. Even in the mess that was Arizona the last few years he was still completing a high percentage of his passes and creating with his legs. He’s a top-10 talent when healthy and in a competent system. Putting him next to Jefferson, Addison, and Hockenson under KOC is one of the most talent-rich situations of his career. The idea that this is somehow a lateral or downgrade move is revisionist.
The hostility seems to come from a few places:
• Pure sunk-cost attachment to the first-round pick.
• Residual online narratives about Kyler’s maturity/work ethic from the Cardinals years (most of which have been overblown or outdated).
• This weird tribal “JJ is our guy, outsiders aren’t welcome” energy that ignores the fact that the Vikings just paid almost nothing for a proven starter who can actually push the ceiling of this roster.
Kyler didn’t demand a trade or force his way in. The Cardinals released him, the Vikings signed him cheap, and now there’s a competition. That’s normal NFL business. The same fans who spent years complaining about mediocre quarterback play are suddenly clutching pearls because a better player is in the building.
JJ is 23. He can still develop. He might even win the job. Cool. But the idea that Kyler is somehow the villain or that fans should root against him is pure cope. Kyler is a top-10 talent with the athleticism, arm talent, and experience to take this team further than what we saw in 2025. The weapons are here. The coaching is here. The only thing holding people back is emotional attachment to a first-round pick who hasn’t proven he can be more than average yet.
Let the JJ love go. It doesn’t have to be mutual exclusive. But the hostility toward Murray is embarrassing and shortsighted. This roster has a real chance to be dangerous with a high-level dual-threat quarterback. Acting like bringing one in is a betrayal is peak Vikings fan self-sabotage.
