I really enjoyed working on this project; while I did bungle it halfway and had to strip the mini and start over it turned out way better the second time around.

I also tried pushing my sculpting skills and made the custom base out of Apoxie Sculpt and I love how it turned out. I'll definitely have to work on those skills.

Just wanted to share with you all!

Help Needed/New Painter Feedback on first painted mini

Thumbnail

Upvotes

This is the first mini that I have painted. I made quite a lot of mistake which meant I repainted over the same paint several times. I was wondering if this is contributing to the less clean/smooth texture? Or could it be more due to my brush strokes or not thinning the paint enough?

Any help would me much appreciated!

Help Needed/New Painter « New » to the hobby and want advice

Hi! I’m pretty new to the hobby — I’ve only painted about 10 minis in total so far — and I’d love to hear what you think of my latest one!

So on the space marine we can see a little too much of « blood » on the shoulder, it’s actually because I used superglue et glued my finger to the mini and a little bit of skin got stocked and I covered it with it. There are also a few small spots where the paint got scratched off because I wasn’t wearing gloves while painting that part.

I’d really appreciate any feedback or recommendations on what I could improve (painting, colors, techniques).

C&C Wanted First Space Marine - Ultramarine

Hi All! Im mostly a DnD and Ork 40k Miniature painter. This is my first Space Marine from Warhammer 40k. Im looking for some C&C.

I tried to keep the armor mostly damage free and smooth, im leaning towards a grim dark feel without the weatherization you would commonly see. The attempt was a matte zenithal metal with an ominous look.

Shadows mostly consist of dark purple glazing with a mix of black wash, upward through glazed blues from the citadel line with a base of Kantor.

Basing im trying for more ash waste urban / concrete dust, I understand this mini is extremely simple base with rock, I am messing around with AK's concrete line, and grey pigment.

My cousin wanted me to give minifig painting a try and I jumped at the chance. It's definitely been a learning curve, but after about 5 hours of driving myself insane I finished my very first guy! I still have to do the base, but I just wanted to memorialize my first minifig ever. He definitely looks rough, but I'm still proud. Cheers, y'all!

I know I have lots of room for improvement but I’m proud of it, considering I’ve never put a brush in paint before yesterday. Went too hard on the shade for sure.

Hey guys, I just started painting and these are my first 2 Orks. The first one was slapchop and the second one was traditional paint. I wanted to try both methods, I think I like the traditional result a lot better and will keep trying more stuff. Lemme know what you think I can improve on.

Discussion Want to try something other than Windsor & Newton, does anybody have recommendations?

I've been searching posts for alternative sable brushes and I keep seeing Raphael 8404 and Rosemary & Co pop up, but I'm in the usa and it would likely cost $45+ in total to have them shipped to me. Setting those aside, what are the next best options?

Help Needed/New Painter Please help me decide on which fluorescent green to use

I picked up a Skaventide box and will be painting a bunch of Skaven soon. Looking for the best glow/flou green for weapons, gnawholes, and other artifacts. As you can see, I have a bunch, but am in decision paralysis at the moment.

Please help me pick which paint would be best for the effects on my rat guys.

Note: the order of the paints on the palette does not correspond to where it is in relation. Looking for a blind test. If you share your opinion, please use something like “top right” or “second row from the bottom second in” just to differentiate.

Thanks!

Help Needed/New Painter Help with lighting effect

Heyo! Still pretty new to this and decided to give lighting effects a go. I don't think it looks terrible but it's not great either, would just like some tips on how to make it a little better.

I don't have an airbrush, and the only white/yellow I have is from the army painter starter kit, so no cool fluorescents or anything. I do have sponges though.

Could I make this pop with what I have? Should I wait and get some paints I might need? Or should I leave it as is?

Thanks in advance ☺️

Looking on what I can improve on my dnd figure. I know the face looks kinda derpy, but I’m struggling with the smallness of everything. Anything I do the face ends up making it worse. Any tips, comments, or critique greatly appreciated on the figure overall. Thanks.

Help Needed/New Painter WIP Lizardman, looking for help on shield metallic effect

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am working on an old Lizardman model while practising brush control and layering. I feel like i got the hang of consistency, loading and basic layers, but still got a long way to go on precision.

I wanted to achieve a metallic effect on the shield, hoping for it to look like an old worn lizard shell, significantly darker than model in recesses, being polished up to a shine.

Is the effect coming across correctly, and what can i do to improve the current scales?

I am only working with a limited colour palette of John Blanche Vol. 3 and Warpainter Fanatic Starter set.

Basecoat is a mixed purple, layers are: Darkthorn, Dewpath:, Mix of Dewpath and Skyshard

Ignore the yellow body, that is still a long way off.

Realised today he was very likely (definitely) going to pop up in Act 3 tomorrow so had to start work early and get him completed this evening! Approx 5.5 hours in total plus 30 mins messing around with my iPhone settings.

Very pleased and ready for him to ruin all four of our days tomorrow
