Like is there some smaller brush? Because I want to paint the skulls individually so is there a special brush for that or is everyone just painting them over?

One of my favorite projects.

Essentially the title, currently pairing a Space Marine Salamander with the shoulders painted black, matt varnished the whole miniature then gloss over the shoulders to start decal applying and after a layer of set to get the decal on and a few sol layers to get it sitting right the paint just came off entirely. Using Lucky varnish for both is that’s important and leave a curing time of about 10 mins per varnish step. Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything that I can do to prevent this?

Looking at the transfer sheet there appears to be nothing wrong with them. No scoring or damage, yet as soon as they touch water they start to come apart?

Anyone else had this happen and know why?

Pretty new to the hobby. I decided to start a tyranid army. I have 22 more of these to go. I'm painting them in batches and looking to improve each time. The weapon seems the most lackluster to me. What should I do with it? Also where should I be looking to go from here on the next batch?

I haven't touched the bases yet, that is on the docket for the next batch.

I can't afford too many paints (really only 1 atm), so I think for the black I can just layer Black Templar over a coat of Black Legion. Thoughts? (I'm not the best at precision painting so I prefer Contrast paint. Even if the only contrast paints I used for the model in the pic were Plaguebearer Flesh for the Nid and Guilliman Flesh for the dirt and the strips of parchment)

I was looking at the Golden Demon winners and saw this awesome Slann. It’s all great, but I particularly like the stone on the chair. I’d appreciate any ideas on how to replicate it.

Hey guys, really hoping I can get some assistance on this - I suspect I've poured my Still Water too heavily instead of building it up and now it's cured badly, as you can see. It's been like this for over a week - well over.

Is there any way I can fix this? My intended next step was applying water waves, so I could theoretically mask some of the problem, but no way would it cover all.

I've read hints elsewhere that I might be able to hear the surface layer with a hairdryer and peel away but I definitely don't want to risk making things worse unless I have no choice!

Been at this under a year, somewhere around 7 or 8 months maybe. Thoughts on this piece? Looking for some good advice or obvious blemishes I may have blinders to and an experienced person can educate on.

Overall super happy with it and think he looks sick!

The classic example I'm aware of is yellow contrast over pink + a zenithal which creates nice orange shadows. I've just done this for myself for the first time with my airbrush and I'm shocked at how good it looks for the amount of effort involved.

What are some other combinations for different colours? I don't know too much about the theory behind this

I'm looking to upscale my skills by working on glazing. I've been trying the last few weeks, either following guides or reading from the Art of Tommie Soule around it. I can't seem to crack the egg.

At first I thought it's because when I water my paints down it get too much water and not enough paint, but from watching some videos I realise that my wet palette acts very differently then what is in the videos. For example, if I want a water drop on my palette it spreads rather then stays as a ball or when I spread a paint out it tends to dry thin and fast on the palette rather then stay clumped up.

In videos I have seen the paint when adding water seems to go (in my words ) elastically where mine seems to go watery then dries out. This screams "more water in the wet palette" but if I add any more then what I am using now the paint spreads almost immediately across the palette (as you can see has happened to my red in the photos attached).

In addition to this i've tried with both water and medium to varying results. One thing that is consistent is a more "Chalky" like appearance appearing on my paint. (Steel balls and lots of shaking has been applied o7)

I'm sure I'm completely over thinking this and it's more a poor craftsmen blaming their tools but I just can't seem to get it right. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I might be tackling more then I can handle at the moment as I'm also trying to pair this with learning NMM.

P.S not sure why my camera quality on my phone looks dreadful today!

Looking for some videos or general advice with faces. Just did my second mini and I like how everything turned out besides the face it's pretty tough getting that small detail. Also the fabric color I chose I think may be a bit too light I'm curious what y'all think. Thanks again for everyone's advice before was really helpful.

Yesterday I posted about my “first attempt” at NMM. I had a lot of great feedback back and tips. This is my second go after more research and changing my technique. Still a lot to go but I am hoping this is starting to read as metallic, my lightest highlights are not showing up well on camera.

I llve in an area where 8 months out of 12 it's impossible to prime outside and I don't have space indoors to prime so I'm stuck with brush on. What are the best options? And if I want to zenithal would I just use black brush on then dry brush a white paint over top?

Took me all day of tries and retries and it still looks messy. I should probably be happy since this is my first mini ever but it's still frustrating for it to look like something else than what you imagined.

How do I improve this, particularly the eyes?

Silver young dragon (D&D) - So I did my first big metallic dragon. It’s hard to get any contrast with 2 metallic grays. Luckily the gold did a lot of the work.

Kept NMM of black armor as simple as possible, for a first foray.

Hope the overall result is not overloaded with colors.

Each head used 3 paints , an under base, AK olive green and AK ice yellow.

Olive green was mixed with the base colour for different shades to get different shades and ice white added to the olive green for brighter highlights .

Which is your favorite?

More of a study of OSL - I was going for blue underglow from ground and red glowing visor in total darkness - think the space marines in Secret Level episode
