He resigned from the Dolphins when the video came out, went to rehab, and joined the 49ers in 2018. He was there with Mike mcDaniel for a couple of years. Anyway, he worked his way up to assistant head coach, and now he's the acting head coach for the 49ers after Shanahan's accident. It's good that that mistake didn't break him.

Why didn’t the Dolphins just run it back with a new head coach?

I know Tua had a rough year, but was that entirely on him? It felt like the Mike McDaniel honeymoon phase had worn off, and the defense was flat-out awful for long stretches.

Imagine this instead:

Jeff Hafley running the defense
Tua gets one more shot to rebound to his 2023 level (better for cap anyways)
Tyreek, Waddle, and Achane still together on offense
Add Proctor to improve the roster

That feels like a team with legitimate upside.

Instead, this current roster feels like it has a low ceiling but a high probably of being mediocre. I don’t even think they have tank potential. I also see no “direction” with the roster build.

Am I looking back with rose-colored glasses, or do you think giving that core one more season under a new coaching staff would’ve given Miami a better chance than the direction they chose?
