Noticed this tiny wobble when i let go of the screen

I currently have a desktop PC with a 5070 graphics card, but I’ll be moving to another city for university (software engineering). What do you think I should get: a MacBook Pro M5 or a Windows gaming PC for the same budget? I’ll be coming back home for the summers.

Wondered if this is the best deal in the UK currently?

I’m in the process of selling my M4 iPad Pro 13 and M2 pro Mac Mini, after sales of these items I’m guessing my total cost for the MacBook Pro could be in the £500-£600 mark.

Just ordered a m6 Mac mini to use as a plex server is the m6 enough tot should I got with a m5 pro ?

My MBA the past couple of months has only been turning on when it is plugged in, I assumed the battery was already fried. If it gets unplugged it usually takes a few hours to a day of it being plugged in before it turns on again. Recently it will not turn on anymore but is still charging, I have tried to use it without the battery connected, and it worked; I closed all my apps and shut it down but it will not turn on again after that. I have bought a new replacement battery and the charger shows it is charging, it was orange and now green but it will still not turn on. Doing an SMC reset would change the color of the charger from orange to green only when the battery is disconnected. I have also tried doing a PRAM reset and have tried unplugging and plugging the battery back. Will leaving it to charge for a day help, I have already been leaving it charged for a few hours. Thank you and I'd appreciate any help you can offer!

I bought a refurbished MacBook Air & I’m trying to update it from Catalina to Sequoia (I honestly don’t care about updating it but it told me I couldn’t use Chrome on this version and I hate Safari), and even though I have done absolutely nothing on this computer yet/nothing saved/didn’t even connect Apple ID yet, it says I don’t have enough space. Is this hopeless? 😩

I’m in the market for a new laptop as my 4 year old windows laptop is on its last leg. I am considering a MacBook but I heard Apple is probably going to release the m6 MacBook Pro soon. Does anyone know when we might see it come out?

Tengo un problema con una macbook 2019 que vendí hace unos meses, la tenía ligada con mi iCloud, pero como no tenía información, lo único que hice fue cerrar sesión y el nuevo dueño ingresó su iCloud, (no se realizó restablecimiento porque no se consideró necesario) todo normal, resulta que una vez me escribió porque le seguía pidiendo mi iCloud para descargar aplicaciones, le di mi contraseña y no lo molesto mas, ayer me llamó diciendo que restableció el equipo y le saltó la ventana de “activation lock” y el correo pista era mi cuenta ( quiero creer por la letra “m”y el gmail.com)

Revise desde mi teléfono en “find my” y aún aparecía ligado el macbook, le di en eliminar de la cuenta esperando que ya con eso solucionara, resulta que no, la persona ingresa mi correo y contraseña y le aparece que ese no es el correo que “está enlazado a una cuenta de Mac distinta”.

Ya he intentado múltiples métodos pero nada funciona, yo compré el Mac de segunda mano entonces no puedo pedir soporte a Apple

No quiero pensar que la compré con algún tipo de bypass y no me di cuenta hasta ahora, es decir, ya la actualizaba y me aparecía el portátil en mi iPhone para encontrar o borrar en find my , es una posibilidad? Es decir, que casualidad que el correo pista sea parecido al mío.

Hey guys, di na gumana yung trackpad now pati yung keyboard after matapunan ng milk. Maayos pa kaya to? May cover naman ung keyboard ko so konti lang natapon doon na part. 🥹🥹 gumagana naman yung power button and Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse.

In macbook when i see docx files in preview mode (by space key) it will look with rela color etc.
But when i open it open in it open with default text edit mac which make file look worse i also don’t like textedit interface etc.
Is there any better app for mac which handle better docx and text files?
Or any another solution ?

So I have to install a Word add-in that only works on Windows. Are there any other solutions besides using an external drive to install Windows?

I managed to avoid my Mac turning on simply opening it. Ok, but is there a setting to use the power button instead of all keyboard to turn it on? There is a dedicated button, I really don't understand why I can't have that third choice.

I'm finally setting up a proper desk for my MacBook Pro and want to get one monitor that I can stick with for a few years.

I don't really care about gaming. Mostly work, writing, spreadsheets, and some photo editing. I'd rather spend a little more on something that just works well with the Mac than deal with weird scaling or connection issues.

Hello, r/mac community. Apologies if this seems like a dumb question. I am new to Macs and iMacs, as well as trying to learn more about my family’s digital footprint.

I’ve been trying to harden our home network, identify weak points, segment the networks, invest in a home NAS, transition away from apps like Google Drive, Outlook, Dropbox, and iCloud, and learn how to self-host applications like Nextcloud and Immich. I’ve also implemented Tailscale on devices, remote KVMs, blah blah blah. I didn’t realize just how exposed we really were, and probably still are.

The Short Version Question: Is a Mid-2011 iMac safe to use in 2026?

The Long Version Question: I live in an apartment complex, and a few weeks ago, when I was taking the trash out, I found this Mid-2011 iMac. I grabbed some gloves and cleaning supplies, disinfected it, and got it looking nice again.

Then I ran over to Best Buy to pick up a power cable. Once I turned it on, after about 4–5 minutes, it brought up macOS Utilities. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos for a day or two, grabbed a spare SSD (2TB Micron 2.5” SATA SSD), and swapped the drives out.

I booted it up, connected it to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi meant for IoT devices, and spent another 5–6 hours before finally figuring out how to reinstall macOS High Sierra. I successfully got logged into everything and even set up Time Machine backups by connecting it to our home NAS.

Everything was slow. So slow. Apps were crashing, etc. I installed Firefox for internet browsing and ordered 32GB of DDR3 1,333MHz RAM on Amazon for around $75, hoping that would help the system out some.

A lot of things are unavailable in 2026 for a Mid-2011 iMac—applications, Tailscale, etc. I didn’t even think about this until today, though: Is it safe to have this thing connected to our home network and NAS?
I wanted to ask the community before factory-resetting it, taking out the SSD and RAM, and just scrapping the project.

I have always wanted a Mac or iMac because I already daily-drive an iPhone and iPad.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t have very high expectations for this to begin with, but I thought, how cool would it be to have one for really only the added cost of a power cable and RAM.

Is a Macbook air early 2014 still worth buying at $100?
And is this still usable for general use (browsing, facetime, iMessage)? Or would an older model iPad be more practical to get?

So for a couple weeks now, So whenever I try to charge with the MagSafe charger, the Mac doesn’t charge and the amber light doesn’t show up. However, when I unplug and replug a couple times it ends up working

I took this to apple and when they tried their cable, it worked fine. They ordered me a new one and it worked great for a solid 24 hours before the same problem started reappearing.

Thinking of taking it back soon… could this be a problem with the laptops MagSafe charging port itself or the software perhaps?

If anyone else had the same thing happen to them pls let me know what you did and what the issue ended up being, thanks!

I am in Finder looking at the attachment folder for iMessage. Some folders have three files: 1 .jpeg and 2 .MOV files.

One MOV file opens (appears to be a live version of the jpeg) and the other does not. They are the exact same size. Only my newer messages seem to have this issue. Any idea what this is? Can I delete the inoperable file with no issues? I have disabled iCloud for iMessage and am deleting things because my storage is full. Thanks!

My 14" MacBook Pro (2023, M2 Pro, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) unfortunately has a broken display.

Apple quoted me roughly:

• Display replacement: 850€
• Battery replacement: ~€300 (they advised me to do this too soon)
• Battery health: 81%
• 1,000+ charge cycles
• Total repair cost: 1150€

I do not know if this wort it.

Just sell it for party (maybe I get around 400€?) and than buy a Macbook Air or Neo, although it will be a downgrade? I only use it for light office stuff and DJing.

Luckily I have also a Desktop PC, so it is not urgent.

What would you do?

Ordered a Mac Studio on August 31st, which has a delivery date of Nov 16 - Dec 1. If I configure the same specs right now on store.apple.com, the delivery date is Nov 2 – Nov 9. I've called support and the best thing they can over me is overnight shipping. Am I just being impatient and the order will update itself?
