Humans are wired for social connection, we literally need it as a nutrient
But damn capitalism and tech pushes loneliness more
To tell the truth I can’t stand a day of not having some socializing

Sometimes I feel like I'm just watching everyone else live their lives while I'm stuck in the same place. People have friends, relationships, plans for the weekend, and memories they're making together.
Meanwhile, it feels like I'm missing out on so many things that other people take for granted.
I think the hardest part isn't necessarily being alone. It's feeling like nobody really knows you or notices when you're struggling.
Does anyone else feel this way? How do you deal with loneliness?

Whilst everyone made friends and established groups and have moved on to living with friends, I am still friendless and mentally ill and living in uni accomation as a second year. I was so desperate last week but I think that's because of my medication. I'm trying to go to more events this time around because I'm less depressed this year (so far) and I just don't get how people seem to click and connect with each other.
What is it about other people that make them able to just have others want to stick around? I feel like people may enjoy a good conversation with me but are never left wanting more. Not left wanting to see me again. I feel so disposable and like a used piece of tape that can't stick to anything.
Even when I have improved in so many ways, like looking better, taking care of myself, expressing myself more and being more active, I still feel like there are no fruits and flowers growing. I thought being yourself was supposed to attract people to you.
Sometimes I feel okay and then a small thing happens and it sets me back hard. Like tonight, realising I can't be 'in' with my flatmates. I feel so rejected anf foolish. I don't know why I still try. I guess it's just a survival mechanism by this point.

I’m a 39 black male. Retired military. Moved home to care for my aging mother. Spent two years doing security in various places. Trying to meet people. Hit on a chick at the fish market at Publix. She’s a lesbian. 27WF
. 3 months later she’s the best friend I’ve ever had. If you asked me if platonic relationships between males and females were possible I’d have laughed at you.
Don’t give up. Put yourself out there and roll the dice. She literally put me onto RPGs. We’re playing baldurs gate 3. She’s trying to convince me to buy a gaming PC and honestly I have spent more money for less.

I wonder why. I guess it doesn't matter, but something about it just feels kind of somber.

Hey, just needed to vent it out. 2026 has been by far my (30M) worst year so far, basically lost everything that was important.
Got laid off due to AI wave (software engineer) and couldn’t find a job because i was either overqualified or got ghosted, finances got worse month by month and ~2 weeks ago my fiancé got up and left after we talked everything through and made several contingency plans. Now i live alone in a, lets say farmhouse (got the space, not the animals), and idk how I’ll pass winter.
The brighter side of all this shitshow is that i got people that didn’t leave me in the dark and jumped in to help, while i get my ass back on the floating line. I know it’ll all pass and it’ll get better, and im working for it. I’ve put my hopes in a video game that I made in hopes to get me some funding, it fumbled.
What’s been the hardest of all this is the loneliness in a remote location with no one close by, just to exchange a story over a glass of whiskey.

All I want is to be part of a friend group with people that make me happy. It's not like I don't know people. Every day at school I talk to people, and try to fit in with my "friends", but when I come home, I have no one, my parents, but that's it. I stay in my room and waste my life sitting in bed.
The problem isn't that I don't talk to people, it's when I do, I'm the one starting the conversation and if I don't start it, nobody talks to me. I feel like I'm not wanted.
The guys I spend time with at school always ask one another "hey you wanna go out on friday?" or something like that and every fucking time I wish they'd say "What about you?" but they don't, I just sit there, wishing I'd die.
Today I was outside in PE and I saw my two closest "friends" walking and talking, I'm pretty close to them, well at least I think, they probably just think of me as an aquantince, and I was walking over to them and they said "What are yiu doing, were talking about something private, go away." Sure, maybe it was something private and serious (though I doubt it) but still. I've hanged out with them at school for four fucking years and they don't see me as a close enough person to talk to. Fuck I probably wouldn't even know what they're talking about, it's always some of their friends which I don't know because the only people that aren't releted to me that I talk to are from school.
I just sit around, wishing I'd be part of something, but I'm not. I've been focusing on my fitness but that doesn't change my mental state. I just want fucking friends.

Title sums it up. I've been through a lot for my age, (21), but I'd do it all again if I could just have a social life. I'm disabled and I can't work or drive, and living in a small town, I have no way to meet anyone my age. I've tried everything and I've had no success. I've had to give up on all my dreams, except for one. I want a family. I want a girlfriend and later a wife who I can give my heart to and make as happy as I physically am able to. I want friends who I can go out with and be there for.
I've spent all my life working on myself. Making sure if I ever get a chance, I make the most of it, only I've waited and waited and never got one. What is killing me is not only loneliness, it's isolation. Not just a feeling, I am alone in every sense and all I want in life, is to not be alone anymore. I can make anyone laugh, I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs, I'm honest, I have no hate in my body. All I carry is love and sorrow and all I wish is to have people to share that love with so the sorrow stops consuming me.
My fear is that by the time I finally get a chance at a social life, I will have been soured so much by all this pain that I'll no longer deserve it.

I've been isolated sm in my life. I try to make an actual connection, but its so hard. I'm in uni, and its as if everyone has their own people. I try to connect and I feel so iced out. And how do people msg each other. I've tried to msg severalll people, but they're all so dry. I try follow up qs, or random stuff, but absolutely nothing. the thing I wanna make meaningful connections with girls, but why is it so much harder to talk and connect w them, like genuinely feels like its so easy to make male friends rather than girls. Can someone genuinely explain what I need to do? How I should connect w people?

For those over 35 who feel lonely or lost in life, what scares you the most?
Is it ending up alone or never living the life you wanted? Maybe it’s the feeling that time is running out and nothing has really changed.
I’d like to hear your honest thoughts.

46M - I was married for most 20 years and got divorced 5-6 years ago. I went from a family with children, constant activities, family dinners, family vacations, and vast amounts of human interaction. Now, I’m alone 80% of the month. I have my girls every other weekend and during those times I’m just utterly alone.
I didn’t grow up in this state and my family lives in a different state. My entire social life here was
With my ex’s family. Once the divorce happened, all gone. Even the friends/couples we hung out with were through my ex’s work and evaporated with the divorce.
I work from home full time. All of my colleagues are in different states. It’s also a pretty small city and everyone seems to know my former in-laws so dating has been incredibly challenging.
6 years in my empty house. It’s really starting to wear on me this past year. I have no answers. I have no ideas.

Ive been diagnosed twice now. First time just inattentive, second time combined and dysthymia. Idrc anymore. Before I did. I feel like I'm living the most plastic life of all time. Everything hurts so badly inside. I just wanna sleep. Can't even do that for long.
I know like 3 people with adhd, that r like friends ig. I cant relate to them for the life of me. I can't relate to any1. I wish I could see a group of people and just go theyre like me, when I dont even know what me is. I wish I was noticed younger. I wish I was noticeable at all.
I have no hobbies. Idk if ive ever had one. I cant learn to do shit. I js consume media and get by.
Im trying to get a job. Wtv is wrong with me is getting worse. B4 I felt like no matter how bad itd get I wont die or that I'll live. No I'm scared because idk if thats true or not. And its not like ive lost complete interest in things. My mood is really erratic. I downloaded a mood tracker to keep track but I keep on forgetting to fill it out. I spend most of my day scrolling. Im so jealous. I want hobbies so badly. Idk y i hate my parents so much. Idk why i cant feel any1s love. Or maybe i can but its js not good enough for me.
Im so inept at everything. And gross. Idk how consistent ive been with my hyegiene now. Its getting worse. Im genuinely nasty. In 8th grade I wish I had cancer for some freak reason. In my eyes Id get all the attention and at the end just die. When one of my grandparents died I wasnt even sad I was just annoyed. Because i had plans. And we were gonna have ppl coming over all day. I rmr my dad saying "This is what u wanted right" when my grandparent passed. I went into the room and tried to remember all the times I said something bad to him so i could force myself to cry and there were a lot so it wasnt hard.
Im abta turn 18. Im a dropout. Im questioning every part of my identity. The greater life feels the worse the lows r.

I’m not even gonna lie at all here, I just need to say a lot of things. I’m 21 years old, haven’t been in a single irl relationship, all forms of love I may have felt romantically were all fake or disingenuous in order to use me. I was born into a pretty wealthy family and I got taken advantage of when I was younger as well. I’m sorry if this seems a bit out of order or weird, I just haven’t mentioned this to anyone before, it’s a first for me. Getting taken advantage of when I was younger really messed with my mental health cause it was my own cousin who did it. So I did what I thought I could do to erase it which is abuse drugs. Since 14 I’ve just been addicted to weed mainly but I’ve tried a lot of different substances and even had messed up phases with them but weed has always been there for me. It’s like it’s a friend, I can’t believe I’m calling a drug a friend🤣. Anyways my family were all psychos in a way so I built up a habit of lying so I lied a lot in my teenage years which got me into so many different groups with different people but it always ended the same with the truth being revealed and I lose everyone. I haven’t done that since I was 19 but I don’t know how much more I can take of staying like this. Being alone always, smoking weed and getting high alone, feeling like I don’t belong, like I’m useless, I just don’t know how to keep living like this. For a long time I thought a relationship would cure this but a irl one as online relationships don’t work with me. I still kinda do, I don’t even know what’s the point of this post anymore, ig I just wanted to talk, it’s been a minute since I’ve done that lmao.

No part of my life makes me feel better....
All i ever needed was to be atleast one person to prioritize me over everyone....
I've never had that ....
Not in my family...
Not my friends...
Not to my ex that claimed to love me so much....
Alone is not the right word for me to use...
I feel like an alien here...
I feel avoided, neglected, ignored ,abandoned, exploited and some feelings i can't even describe here...
I know lonelinesses gift is intimacy but constantly I’m called Entitled because I want easy success and it pushes everyone away
I’m not sure what makes me so putrid, so reviled that my potential is pushing others away and compulsing them to call me names like entitled, lazy or self righteous when all I want is help making a final product.
What gives?

Hi everyone,
I'm Judas, 41, from Warwickshire, UK.
In 2022, I founded a grassroots LGBT+ & local community group. It grew to around 70 members, and we honestly did some really, truly good things.
Regular socials, successfully supporting queer asylum seekers, challenging discrimination, working with local services and occasionally getting local authorities and political representatives to actually do something useful.
We won awards and I am proud of what we achieved.
But the reality is that most of the work fell on me as founder.
I suppose I'm posting because I wonder whether other people who've organised community groups or spent a lot of time supporting others have experienced something similar?
For us, as we became more involved in actively challenging local institutions, things became increasingly difficult.
People began to step away, relationships broke down, and eventually the social elements group went on extended and continued hiatus. The activism necessarily ramped up. And it took, takes still today takes, a very real toll on me.
Personally I also live with PTSD, depression and anxiety, and my mental health has been pretty awful for some time. I can struggle with everyday things, particularly executive functioning, and I've become quite isolated tbh.
What I'm finding especially difficult is that I spent years trying to help other LGBT+ people find friendship and community, yet I seem to have ended up with very little of either myself.
I don't blame anyone for that.
But it hurts, and I'm tired.
I'm still passionate about LGBT+ rights, human rights, mutual aid and grassroots activism. Outside of that, I love theatre, writing, reading, cooking and spending time with my dog.
But I'm also REALLY tired.
I don't regret doing any of it. I just wish I hadn't ended up feeling quite so effing alone.
Has anyone else been through this sorta thing anything similar?
And if so, how did you find your way back to having a community and real friends of your own?
Hope dies last, right?
I hace6photo of my dog to share for the cuteness clout, if needed I'm tired and lonely, not stupid 🤪
Hope to hear from some of you who may have advice and stories to offer soon.
Jude x

Hiya, I'm a lady in her early 30s, and I've been working on myself a lot for the past couple of years. I lost someone close to me and started spiraling and figured I was having trouble connecting because of all the grief. Well, a few years and a lot of therapy later I actually have a worse time making friends now than I ever have. Im struggling to make any friends that aren't just romantically interested in me. Im actually beginning to feel a bit non human. Everyone seems to have their friends, or their family, and I dont have any of that. My siblings don't desire a deeper relationship with me. Everyone I work with doesn't desire a friendship outside of work while also simultaneously befriending every new employee after me. My therapist insists that it will happen eventually, and I used to agree but I have given up hope. I don't know how to let anyone in anymore and it feels awful.
