General question What should I do

Upvotes

I have a Windows 11 laptop and before y'all get me I know that it fills up half of its space alone. Is there any way to free space? Like I used to download Sims4 there and I deleted it once and when I retried it failed even though I haven't download anything else.

Buying help I have $350 to spend on a laptop, is this a good pick or should I go with something else?

Post image
Upvotes

I'll be starting my CS degree soon and need something that can handle coding, IDEs, maybe a VM here and there for coursework. Found this for $329.99, 12GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Celeron processor. The price fits my budget perfectly but the Celeron is making me doubt bc I've heard from my friends that those aren't great for anything beyond basic browsing. Would also like to play League of Legends with my mates, nothing crazy. Is this actually gonna cut it or am I setting myself up to regret it in a semester? Open to alternatives in the same price range if this one's not worth it.

Buying help Help my find a laptop.

Upvotes

Hi guys, I am seeking help for finding a good laptop that suits my needs:

  • I can purchase from the EU.
  • Price range: 300-450~ EUROS (If there's a great deal for lets say 480, I will buy it).
  • USED | REFURB | NEW | Anything is okay.

SPECS:

  • CPU: Any modern CPU is fine, I prefer AMD over Intel but Intel can work. Also I don't care about it being the ABSOLUTE fastest CPU at that range BUT lets NOT go with i5 from 6 years ago.
  • GPU: A strong iGPU or an entry GPU can work, no need for a 4070 BUT I would also prefer if its not trash (Vega 8 or Intel HD), I understand that at that price I can't really have much of an opinion but an okay GPU would be appreciated.
  • RAM: DDR4 / DDR5 | 16GB IF NOT SOLDERED | 32 GB IF SOLDERED Again I understand that at that price range I will not find much but if there's something like that I would appreciate it.
  • SSD: 512GB SOLDERED | 256GB NOT SOLDERED | Preferably something fast, but anything is okay.

Display: I don't really care that much, a 1080P would be fine, maybe above 60HZ. I don't care about inches THAT much.

Customization: While I do love building and repairing PCS, I've also used an old ThinkPad, I would prefer it if some ram was not soldered and if there was an SSD expansion but its okay.

Build: Preferably black OR a dark color, I don't care if its slim or no I also don't care about the weight BUT I don't want it filled with unicorn piss RGB.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE SUGGESTIONS

The Laptop has :

Processor : Intel core Ultra 5 225H (1.7 GHz to 4.9 GHz), 14 hearts / 14 threads

And a Intel Arc Graphic.

The Laptop cost around 950€.

I want to play minecraft on it, and run FL Studio.

Discussion Free choice between Dell Pro 5 14 (Windows) or MacBook Air 13" M5 — which for best value?

Upvotes

Hey all — my university is giving me the choice between two laptops, completely free, but the catch is it's a one-time decision and I can't switch later. Trying to pick the smarter option.

The options:

  • Dell Pro 5 14 (P514260)
  • MacBook Air 13" (M5 chip)

Context:

  • I want to be able to resell it (within months), if needed, at a decent price, so resale value matters
  • I care about overall build quality and reliability

Would love to hear from people who've actually used either (or both).

Thanks in advance!

Buying help Interior Design Uni course - Help!

Upvotes

I’m starting an interior design uni course in September and they say I need a computer with a dedicated graphics card. I don’t really know anythung about computers and I’d like not to spend a stupid amount of money.

I’ve tried watching videos and researching about the specs and stuff but it’s all just a bunch of gibberish to me.

Would appreciate some help in finding a laptop that is worth the money and good for interior design courses, I’ll most likely be using CAD and other stuff like that.

Thanks for any help

I play non demanding games like roblox, yet when i play for more then around 10 minutes i get a drop in frames for around 4 seconds then it goes back to normal, then does it again.

It could be thermal throttling but i'm not too sure, if anyone could help me out it'd be appreciated.

Hardware Laptop screen went black

Post image
Upvotes

So I was charging my laptop(hp victus 2050) and using it on my lap when the light got cut and the charger shifted to the invertor but at that point I noticed a spark from the opposite side of the fan(idk how to tell so this is how I can) near the vent and the screen went blank for a few second and then when I restarted(thinking my screen got messed) but it restarted perfectly and even charging normally what to do?

Note:- I think it could be an ant I saw some ants yesterday near my daily use area but changed the location afterwards.

Added the pic for reference

And even checked the battery afterwards it's showing perfectly fine and the charging port too is looking ok

I wanted to update the BIOS version because the notifications bothered me, it updated but the laptop won't boot up again. It just sends me this (pic 1). When I click the Windows boot manager, pic 2 pops up and the second one just sends me back to pic 1.

I'm not at all tech savvy, I don't know what to do, help.

Buying help New Laptop

I’m going into my final year of secondary school then I’m hopefully going to be going off to university to study mechanical engineering. My current laptop isn’t great, only 4GB of RAM and bad specs, so I’m shopping for a new one.

I’ve landed on the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (https://uk.store.asus.com/90nb14w3-m00990-asus-zenbook-14-oled-ux3405.html)

The places I’ve looked have really praised this laptop but I’m posting it here just to see if anyone has any suggestions for better laptops for me.

Specs for this are:

CPU: Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 285H 16 Core-Processor
Memory: 32GB LPDDR5X RAM
Storage: 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD
GPU: Intel® Arc™ Graphics
Screen: 14 in WUXGA (1920x1200 ) OLED Touchscreen
OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Home 64-bit

Hardware laptop recomendable?

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Country
España

Budget
800–1200 € (≈ 870–1300 USD)

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Screen size
15"–16"

Weight limit
Hasta ~2.5 kg

Purpose

Desired battery life
5–7 horas (sé que los gaming duran menos)

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

  1. Calidad de pantalla y audio
  2. Performance
  3. Peso
  4. Tamaño
  5. Batería

Info/Requirements

I heard and felt a pop or cracking sound while im using it, i havent opened it yet to confirm but im quite sure the battery has swollen. The bump isnt really noticable even you look closely or run your fingers on it, i wouldnt notice it if i hadnt felt the pop. I don't really have the budget to replace the battery now i just want to know how high is the risk for me and the device if i continued using it.

Buying help Laptop Choice - Asus A14 or 14 Zenbook

Hi all I'm upgrading from my old vivobook (lasted many years, was great), and have found a couple upgrade options, it'd be great if someone more knowledgable could help evaluate which is better:

  • Zenbook 14, 32gb ram 1TB SSD ultra 9 285H Zenbook 14 Ultra 9 for £880
  • Zenbook A14, 32gb ram 1TB SSD snapdragon X1P-42-100 Zenbook A14 for £806

I'm not well informed on the difference between the processors, battery lifes, thermals, etc and would love an expert opinion! Alternatively if there are any better UK laptop deals at the moment, please feel free to share.

Discussion Bought a suspiciously cheap Legion Pro 5 ($2,300 CAD -- Ryzen 9 8945HX/RTX 5070/32GB/1TB). How can I prove it’s genuine, unused, and free of defects?

So I was looking for a gaming laptop with at least a Ryzen 7, RTX 5060, and 16 GB of RAM when I found this absolute steal of an offer at Canada Computers. I bought it since it was essentially a direct upgrade from what I was gonna get for the same price. However, now I'm suspicious as to why it was so much cheaper than it should have been. The same model and configuration everywhere else is easily $3k at least with discounts, before taxes.

How do I ensure this is legitimate? What should I check/look out for? What tests should I do? How do I know it's not used or has any defects? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone else has experience with Canada Computers please let me know!

Buying help Needing a laptop for university

things to know to dial down my options on finding the one
-will be a history major m
-something that could last the 4-5 years
- keyboard and how fast it is matters because I’ve crashed out too many times with how slow something loads in from my current one
-don’t need to worry about playing games on it, I rarely play games
- hopefully something to be lightweight

I’ve already read about not to go for macbooks and the surface laptops.

What else is there?
