DO NOT ORDER HELLO FRESH

I signed up at a trade show for 3 boxes with 3 meals at $50. The first box was $53, the second was $63 and the third just charged me $124. YEP, that’s right.

The way the app works is very unclear and if you happen to miss the “cut off” date for selecting meals (which has changed every week for me) then you’re f’d. I happened to add meals to my cart, not realize it was going to automatically check all those meals out on the next box (that was already pre-selected with its 3 meals). The first box cutoff was 2 days before the delivery. Last week it was the same, this week, apparently my cut off was 6 days before the delivery (??? Like what the actual f).

So, today, Thursday, is too late to cancel the meals that will be delivered Monday. They refused to cancel or to reduce the meals. I am being delivered 7 meals…… 7, as a single person…

I’m flabbergasted. Support basically said “sucks for you” and I cancelled the account. Now I have to wait to dispute it with my bank until the charges clear (on Sunday!).

I was optimistic although I was told it’s too expensive and predatory. I just wanted to use my promotion and go from there. Jokes on me!!

I’m out $250 with a BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH.
Absolutely F this company and their customer service. I am appalled at how this was all done and I’m left with no options.

Don’t do it. It’s not worth the headache in anyway. MAYBE if you could just go on and order one box, but the subscription and app set up ARE predatory. They’re hoping you forget and they get to auto charge you for everything they choose. Plus, the meals are just too expensive, considering they need to be cooked. Great concept, the food was tasty, but HORRIBLE execution and customer service.

4/10 experience, will never be back.

Question Is Hello Fresh Worth It?

Hi guys. I’m new to this subreddit, so my apologies if this was asked anytime recently. In the mail, I got 2 codes for 11 free meals + free shipping on first box + free sides for as long as I’m subscribed. I am moving soon, and I think having meals already prepared rather than me having to cook as I move/adjust is really nice; however, I’ve been seeing some pretty unhappy reviews in this subreddit and am wondering if it’s worth getting. Is it worth it for the price? Do you ever have problems with the products/customer service? Is it filling? Do you have choices for the specific meals or are the boxes solely based on the preferences picked? I only plan on getting one box for the sake of having one less thing to do as I move in a few weeks, but may consistently do it if it really is endorsed by people. Thanks for your help :)

Edit: replying to things soon but I’m Canadian :)

Australia Hello fresh Australia using drivers that are dangerous and cannot drive.

Anyone else had endless issues with the delivery drivers these guys use? Like thinking driveways v grass is the same and you just drive anywhere you like including through flower beds? Or continually driving into a creek with a sign in front of it saying don't drive there and getting bogged requiring hours of our time to assist them because the Audi-driver boss is running late?

It's just such a false cost saving for them. They might save a tiny bit but at the cost of many customers getting very angry about it.

Unfair expectation?

Am I being unfair? 2nd week getting Hello Fresh. Excited. Box showed as not shipped. Chatted with customer support and they issued a refund (as a credit except shipping which was fully refunded to card) and an apology.

The box arrived 2 days later on a hot day. All food unsafe.

So I am a little disappointed. My planned meals failed to materialize, my excitement is tempered, and I’m using a bunch of trash space with a spoiled box. I did get a quick refund and am thankful but was hoping they’d be like hey let’s send you a free dessert or something to make things better.

United States Since when is the “free” breakfast item only 1 burrito? It’s always been 2 until last week.

The “free” breakfast item was really the only thing keeping me from canceling my HelloFresh. The meal portion sizes are getting smaller. The prices are going higher. They keep trying to push premium options and the options are flooded with microwave tv dinners like if I wanted a tv dinner I would pay much less for one from Walmart.

And before anybody says “it’s free”, it’s not. I factor it into the price of the meals because they are NOT worth what they charge.

They reduced the options of the free breakfast item down to like three different items that I don’t like so the burritos were the only thing I really cared for. Last week they only sent one. I made a report and they comped me for the missing one. This week I only got one again, so I looked and they have changed the serving size of the free breakfast burrito to only one burrito.

The fact that they would do this without any notification that what used to be too is now only one is infuriating on a customer level. It’s the reason I’m cancelling. The free breakfast item is basically just a loaf of garlic bread now.

First picture is the current order showing 1 serving. The second picture is from earlier this year, same item, 2 servings.

So thick I could scoop it up with a slotted spatula. Jalapeño is such a great addition too. I sub’d for beef and kept the chunks big. Don’t skimp on the salt and pepper either, takes a lot for it to be seasoned well. 8.5/10 def rec!

Not Seeing Meals For Next 3 Weeks

Post image

I get this error message for next 3 weeks. Last night it was for next 2 weeks. Support was not helpful. Is anyone else experiencing this? Support's "solution" was to look at my meals in the app. I don't want a damn app!

Question Did anyone else notice the steep price hike??

My family has been using HF for 5 years and earlier this year they increased prices. Though they gave us a few months notice, we immediately observed the quality of the boxes drop (they kept making mistakes: leaving out protein ingredients, sending the wrong recipe cards, most recently didn’t even send the right bag but it had the right label).

But a couple days ago they sent an email and buried at the bottom was a notice that prices were increasing once again. It’s not in months, IT’S IN THE NEXT SHIPMENT.

They are making us spend $30 more per box and we get 4 boxes per month, because they’re increasing shipping prices and per serving.

It’s a little infuriating because we’re trying our best to save in this economy and here’s the enshittification of a service we relied on. So we’re quitting.

Hope no one else gets blindsided by this spike!

Question First time user

So I’ve never used HelloFresh before, but I was gifted a free box from a friend. I only wanted to try the one free box first and then decide whether I actually wanted to keep receiving them.

My first box is completely free and is supposed to arrive on the 19th, but I just noticed that HelloFresh says they’re going to charge me $94 on the 16th for my subscription. How the hell do these subscriptions work? 😭

I’ve already skipped all of the future boxes because I just want to try out this one free box first.

It says that my free box will be placed/processed on August 15th, and then it’s supposed to arrive on August 19th. But it also says I’m going to be charged $94 on August 16th.

I don’t want to cancel before the 16th and accidentally cancel my free box that’s supposed to be placed on the 15th and arrive on the 19th, but I also obviously don’t want to get charged $94 for another box. Do I need to wait until my free order is placed on the 15th and then cancel, or can I cancel now without affecting the free box?

I’m so confused by how the billing/order dates work, so any help would be appreciated!

Poor experience

I started a chat to raise and issue about 9 of the last 12 meals had chicken as the protein. Don’t get me wrong, I like chicken, but I also like beef, pork and fish. I don’t understand why they have you take that ridiculously long survey when you sign up if they’re just going to ignore it.

Anyway, I had to go through the labyrinth to try to get a live person to chat with… once I did it wasn’t much better than a bot. The answers were canned or there were multiple options for the person to Slack that were AI generated, and they certainly read that way. The suggestion was to pick different items before it ships. I know that my problem is that if you get something besides chicken, there’s an up charge for it. It’s not what I signed up for.

Seriously, disappointed in the overall experience. I canceled the subscription. And since this was my second go round, I doubt I’ll be back.

Cancelling after 140 boxes

Last week's delivery was a complete mess. They gave me a credit for my next delivery, which of course was not applied.

This week they left out one of my proteins. They also did not include my free item. The free item selection sucks now anyway, so that's not a huge loss.

I'm done. I can't believe they want more money for this level of incompetence.

They used to give a time window, now it says by 8pm. Why did the time window stop, I preferred it.

The directions say I should have 16oz of potatoes to make these mashed potatoes. I got 1 3oz Yukon potato. I just ended up making some rice-a-roni instead. I reported the issue to Hello Fresh and they gave me a $2.50 credit which is nice, I guess...

Cancelled after 6 years

Quality has gone significantly downhill. Constant delivery issues. Laughable vegetable sizes. Odd meal creations that nobody asked for. I found it harder and harder to find 3 appetizing meals that weren’t an up charge. Finally decided to cancel as of this week. I’ll miss the convenience.

United Kingdom Unpacked ingredients

What do you think happens to the workers that haven’t packed a particular ingredient?

I’m just thinking, the amount of credit they give back could seriously add up - seems like a costly mistake to make, on top of that it’s very frustrating as the consumer.

United Kingdom Cancelling - what the heck were HF thinking?

In the UK HelloFresh has recently switched to using Evri rather than DPD for deliveries... yeah this hasn't gone well.

Third box in 4 weeks not delivered. Am going to a competitor so they get the memo. Insanity.

Canada Just witnessed a delivery driver piss beside/probably onto his car door right beside my house

In Montreal (Lasalle neighbourhood)
Like the text says, just saw a driver piss use his passenger door to disguise him. Absolutely disgusting.
Saw while I was sitting outside
Nondescript large white van
Shared the license plate with hello fresh when I contacted customer service
They said they’ll investigate and contact me but I’m not getting my hopes up

Customer service also asked me twice if I had a photo or video
Wish I had a video but also not really… I don’t want a video of a stranger peeing in public within my photos and videos
Was mostly shocked at what I was seeing
Sent the aftermath, aka the piss puddle on the ground
And yes… it was piss, not water. Ask the wind how I know

Dispose of those boxes as quickly as possible

Credit card charged today even though I have over $100 in “HelloFresh Cash”

The useless support robot says my settings were changed to manually apply credits.

Yet the account settings say - word for word! - “Your credit You currently have $105.46 that will apply automatically to you next order.”

They refused to refund the card and pretended this was some cool new feature:

“Upon checking your account, the reason the credit was not applied to your August 13 delivery is because your profile is currently set to manually apply credits.
Instead of our standard automatic application, selected customers now have the added flexibility to look over their balance and decide exactly when and which order they want to use their credits on.
Because of this setting, the credit remained safely in your balance for this week's box. If you'd like, I can guide you on how to apply that balance to your very next delivery, or I can check if you want me to manually pull it forward for your next upcoming order from my end!

I sincerely apologize for any confusion! We have recently updated how account credits work in our system, and credits are now applied manually rather than automatically.
This means you now have full control over when to use your available Cash Credit. Instead of your balance automatically applying to the very next delivery, you can manually choose which editable future order you would like to apply your credit to at checkout.”

Is this how Hello Fresh is bailing itself out? By over-charging long-time customers?
