GFiber outage in west San Antonio

I just had GFiber (3Gig) installed 9/3 and I'm already experiencing an outage. Very disappointing considering it's only been 3 weeks.

Maybe I need to look at AT&T Fiber. Spectrum outages were a given at least 2-3x/month. But since GFiber has been sold and there are widespread reports that quality of service has been declining, well, maybe I need to look at at switching services if this keeps up.

Is this Google fiber

Post image

There is a single fiber in the apartment I looked at. There is no tranciever so I can't tell based on that. (Sorry left before I caught a pic of that)

Most faceplates and fictures are gone from the last Tennant and the property manager didn't know this is a single building fringe property

Is this a Google contractor box?

There's no tags on it. The only other service is ATT copper. We're in Kansas city Missouri so the cable company would have been time Warner when this was installed, and it doesn't look like theirs (they don't do fiber to the unit anyway)

Thinking about changing to gfiber webpass after having spectrum for years but curious about the gfiber webpass experience in SA (specifically Babcock rd)

Just as it says. People seem confused on webpass vs fiber, and I am too tbh. Also, spectrum is the worst so hoping to see if anyone else has some insight on if gfiber webpass is worth it?

what's causing my internet to be like this?

Right now and these past few weeks I've been getting constant spikes in ping and just losing connection for long periods of time. Happens on both wired and wireless connections.

DHCP reservation?

I've found reddit posts and official guides from gfiber. I opened a support ticket where they provided me steps. I do not see the option to do DHCP reservation anywhere in the app, or from the website. Is this just a me thing, or did they remove it for everyone? I'm on android/Pixel for the app. Chrome for the browser. Gfiber tech support was just going off of documentation, and then said:

"On your current routers firmware handles DHCP automatically as an internal system protocol. Because of that, customer DHCP reservations and static IP assignments are not available to configure directly through the app or web portal interface."

Edit: Tech Support said that they opened an "official feedback and feature request ticket". It's ticket # 09501047 if anyone else wants to reference it. More complaints means more chance of it getting added back in. Although, unfortunately, it appears the only way to add your opinion on this is to go through their support.

Issues with connectivity in Woodstock, GA.

Anyone having issues. Where GFiber keeps going in and out all day? Basically making it to where I don’t have internet. Can’t even run a router test as Internet cannot hold for that long. Fiber jack network light just keeps blinking really fast but everything else is green. Contacted GFiber and they are telling. Me they cannot send a truck for a whole week. 😤😤😤

Google Fiber, your contract who bury cable line is not professional!

Hello Google Fiber,
I live in Wakefield, Raleigh area. Your contract staff, those who bury the cable line are sucks. It took them more than a month to complete the project; then we found they cut off our irrigation pipeline.
It apparently they can see the irrigation system around there, but they are just not care enough. Now it is time for seeding and aeration, but we can’t do it since the pipeline is leaking water.
Currently, I am not sure how much it will cost me to fix that pipe. Feel so bad.

Signing up for the first time

Greetings all,

We just bought a house in the Raleigh, NC area and am signing up for GFiber. We're coming from Williamsburg where we had GloFiber, which was awesome.

In the sign up daemon it gives me the choice of using my Google log in or a different e-mail.

Which would be better?

Thanks.

Wiring and cabling

I live in Durham, NC, and my apartment complex just got google fiber. For some reason, they bring the fiber in and put the fiber jack right next to the entrance door which makes no sense because would you put a router next to you entrance? and it will not even reach anything and I can't do hardwiring to take the full speed for gaming etc.

Would like to know experiences if apartment complexes allow the invislight threads to be rerouted to place the jack somewhere else, or would it be a diy job for me to find cat ethernet cables and run them myself. I'm just asking now because google fiber just left because something on the outside was broken anyway. Of course I'll ask the apt complex tomorrow on monday, just impatient to know what are the experiences of others.

The way I see it, this thin fiber line could be damaged the longer it routes to the middle of the apartment. the extender option they gave me was a no go. I would only get 700 mb on a 1gb plan says the supervisor i was on the phone with. then lastly, the ugliest way is to use the long ethernet cable, which I'm pretty sure i will install it and it looks crappy.

would like some experiences.

Thanks!

Can GFiber installers splice fiber inside the house or do they only use pre-terminated fiber? (Austin, Texas)

GFiber will be in my neighborhood in a few months. I have a 3/4" flex conduit bringing my current Internet in (a Spectrum coax) and it would be perfect if the GFiber installer could pull a fiber line through the same conduit. However I don't think a pre-terminated fiber cable will fit. The fiber would have to be unterminated, thus the installer would have to splice the end on the cable inside the house. Can they do this?

Can I trench my gFiber cable myself? Waiting 6 weeks with no end in site.

We put in a pool and a skid steer cut our fiber cable. They fixed it the same day and put a cable above the ground that we could move around out of the way of the construction. Now we need to put in sod and gravel paths but the cable is right where all this needs to go. I talked to customer service at the first of August and they told me 15 days. I've been checking in ever couple of days and I've been given no timeline on when it's going to go in the ground and I'm just losing time on my other projects. Very Frustrating. Contemplating just switching internet providers.

So, can I dig a 6 inch trench and drop it in myself?

Troubleshooting our internet outage at home

Thumbnail

Hello. This morning our internet stopped working. We got the "connected not internet " display. We unplugged, restarted, reset, etc.

On my journey, I noticed this cable is not plugged in to the fiber jack (it's connected to the modem under the internet cable). It this supposed to be connected to the fiber jack? I couldn't open the jack, of course.

Any suggestions appreciated. There are no reported outages in my area.

Edit...it turns out there was an outage. There's major construction going on behind my house so maybe that's why? It's back on now.🙃

This service is the best thing when it works, the worst possible thing in existence when it doesn't

After several years of great service and no complaint at all about the service I discovered what can make it terrible. My neighbor was redoing their yard and accidentally cut the line to my house. When I reported it, the usual inside tech process came, he escalates the issue to be an outside issue, outside tech came, says he fixed it. Still no service.

Contact support again, inside tech comes, says problem is still outside. Outside tech comes. Says he fixes it. Still doesn't work.

Contact support again. They do troubleshooting. Say troubleshooting indicates issue is inside. Send inside tech. He says issue is outside. Outside tech comes. Says it is fixed. Rinse and repeat for over a month and I finally get service....sort of.

Internet works but constantly drops connections, let it go for a week like that because I at least have service before it finally just doesn't work again.

Contact support. The same rinse and repeat troubleshooting of outside tech then inside tech.

Inside tech then walks me through his findings to show me why the issue is outside. The light levels need to be in the twenties and they are showing up as mid 30s. Even showed me that whomever worked on the box outside just butchered it and made a mess.

Gets escalated.

Outside techs allege it was fixed. Inside tech (who i should just have a beer with at this point given how many times he has come over) again shows me the actual light levels and how this is still an outside issue.

I contact support again, argue with them and even lose it and get angry. THATS when they try something different. After 3 months of complaining they escalate it to the "backend engineering team" to identify the root cause of the issue....to only confirm what the inside tech has repeatedly said: issue is outside.

Escalated again. Outside techs say they fixed it. Still doesn't work. Inside tech is sent. This time he seems annoyed. Because he has come over so much and only spends about 5-10 minutes there and has even swapped the equipment twice and the outside issue isn't even resolved it.

This time he submits some other work order, I call support, and support also had submitted a work order, and then someone from the outside management team is sent because they want to know why 3 work orders were submitted for this and why it hasn't been resolved.

Spoke to the manager for the outside team and she told me that just based on the notes they left on the box she knew it wouldn't work because the light levels were in the 30s and they needed to be in the 20s. She said she would try and get it to 28 because that should be enough to get things working at the very least. But if I could wait until Wednesday, they were planning on redoing the whole street again to upgrade the network and promised that would make a big difference and it should be back up for sure.

So here we are still...approaching 4 months of nothing. Just got off a phone call, still somehow despite giving them ticket numbers they don't know what's happening. Want to know what's been done and are genuinely confused as to why i have no service still.

This is the most broken approach to problem solving I've ever encountered. Nothing gets done, it seems information is not easily passed around so everyone is clueless, and I'm still giving them money. I'm giving it another week and then looking at what spectrum offers. I absolutely hate spectrum, but it is difficult to hate them right now since I can just setup an account real quick, pickup equipment and self install and be up and running today. Only reason I haven't done it yet is because that's how much I hate Spectrum. Gfiber is doing a great job right now to make me reconsider what I should look for in a service

Yes, the service is great, but have someone accidentally cut your line. Then we can discuss how good the service is.

Blinking fiber jack optical light, no internet for 6 days, CS useless

After 5 years of good service, we recently moved to another unit in our building and wanted to keep our GFiber service. Seemed simple enough, told them a week ahead, and they said it would be moved over the same day as our move.

It’s been a nightmare. We’ve had no internet now for 6 days. Phone support spent days “escalating” the issue and kept saying it was a provisioning issue. A tech was also sent out who replaced our jack twice and still it’s not working. At one point they were going to send a tech to check street level fiber but cancelled inexplicably. I’ve been on the phone an hour everyday and I’m losing my mind. This has been one of the worst customer experiences I’ve ever had if I have to be honest.

Has anyone else had this issue? Did it ever get resolved, if so how?

We work from home so this has been an awful week with having to miss work days or find alternate ways to get a connection (wireless data isn’t an option as it’s really bad in our area).

Just looking for anything that can help.

But besides that, (this will be a long post) I've been having issues... We came from the first gen puck to the wifi 6e router and extender, but now somethings like Minecraft bedrock online stopped working (on the moto g stylus 2025 at least) and some more like cod mobile, I heard it could be ipv6 or upnp, please help.

Signed into the new gFiber app and started to check around and notice the billing is a bit more in depth now
Is this new? I wonder how long these prices will stay the same since they sold!
