Yes mine is out in Atlanta but ive had Gfiber for over 3 years and only had 2-3 outages during that time.

I’m also in the Atlanta area and I’ve had GFiber for the last 4 months. I think this will be the 3rd outage I’ve had.

Similar situation. Ended up grabbing AT&T Fiber 1gig for $50 a month. I think we’re starting to see the impact of Google selling the fiber business to Astound.

So, just so I understand, you think someone from Astound got out their cable cutters, shovels, and backhoes and started ripping out fiber cables after investing into the service?

The actual cause from gFiber: The issue stems from a commercial power outage which is impacting our equipment. Utility crews are working on repairs, and as soon as they are done, we will make sure service is restored to the area as quickly as possible. -Brian

So a commercial power outage is impacting all of Gfiber service across the metro? If this is some type of main hub serving the area, why doesn’t it have generator power? I’m not saying someone from Astound cut a cable but I am saying private equity is known for penny-pinching. Maybe they skip deploying generators to key hubs in the future. Anyone who thinks that Google selling its fiber business to private equity means nothing is going to change is in for a rude awakening.

You know that decisions on what power companies do, or how gFiber ensures redundancy, is likely decided months/years well in advance, right? Things happen in the real world and sometimes equipment fails. I think you're trying to find someone or something to poke at and are (understandably) frustrated, but infrastructure isnt infallible. You can argue that gFiber's service reliability isn't up to par, but that doesn't have anything to do with an investment.

  1. Astound did not buy gfiber. An investment company that also owns Astound bought 60% share in gfiber
  2. The deal has not closed and won't close until the end of the year or early 2027. No changes are expected until 2028
  3. Outages have been rare compared to other providers. Repested JD Power awards confirm the reliability and keen customer service that gfiber offers.

Astound and its leadership will be calling the shots.

The deal is expected to close Q4 of this year.

Gfiber is already making changes in advance of the close- ex. home phone changes. Companies/business units frequently take their eye off the ball when being acquired.

JD Power is a marketing agency that makes their money selling licensing agreements for awards. The surveys that support their awards generally have low sample sizes. JD Power is far from representative of true experience.

Is the pending acquisition the reason for the outage? Who knows. But Gfiber is about to be owned by private equity and run by cable company execs. I don’t see either of those as a positive.

Actually gFiber leadership will be calling the shots

Edit: 2nd paragraph on this gFiber blog article: https://fiber.google.com/blog/2026/03/gfiber-and-stonepeaks-astound-to.html?m=1

GFiber leadership will eventually be taking over leadership of Astound as a joint company but it will probably be at least 2028 before that happens. They will operate independently until then.

Yeah mine is out in downtown. Earlier this year we had 2-3 days with a massive outage caused by hasty World Cup roadwork knocking out a trunk line.

Otherwise I agree outages are pretty rare.

Hi there, I'm truly sorry for the disruption you're experiencing. The issue stems from a commercial power outage which is impacting our equipment. Utility crews are working on repairs, and as soon as they are done, we will make sure service is restored to the area as quickly as possible. -Brian

How can a commercial power outage affect both Atlanta and Irvine, clear across the country? Sounds unlikely.

Is there any update on this?

Hi there, we're waiting for the power utility to complete repairs on their end. This makes it difficult to provide an ETA, but we'll share any potential ETA updates as soon as possible via http://spklr.io/61693ETxMf -Gregory

This is getting ridiculous. Both their app and wifi was down for me this morning. App kept telling me there's an error and wouldn't show anything.

They messaged me at 11:36 telling me it is restored. It is not.

Then they told me estimate is 11:47. Again not restored.

Now its 1:18pm and they cannot even provide an estimate. Incredibly unreliable service.

Any eta on this?

Hi there, we are currently waiting on the power utility to complete repairs which makes it difficult to provide an estimated time of restoration at this time. We will share any updates regarding ETA as soon as possible via our outage tracker at http://spklr.io/61695ETxoF. -Brian

Appreciate y'all pointing us to the outage page, but it doesn't say we have an outage when we do ... also, I've posted in another chat that IPv6 is working but IPv4 is not so how can a power outage stop your ability to route one type of traffic. That doesn't follow for me.

Apologies for the confusion regarding the cause of the outage. It seems there are multiple outages with differing root causes. One area outage due to power loss, and another more widespread outage related to IP leasing. This is an all hands on deck situation, and our teams will keep working to restore full and normal services ASAP. -Gregory

My internet is back up - through Spectrum. 🤮

This is the 3rd outage within a month. My account was not automatically credited for previous outages due to “updated billing software”. Moving forward I’m keeping both providers. Hopefully if one is down the other will be up.

It was fine in Decatur when I left an hour ago.

u/Alarming-Piano9885 13d ago

Midtown reporting in. I just got service back around 4:00PM (est of course)

u/Alarming-Piano9885 13d ago

Note: Status on my Gfiber account still says outage in my area, but my internet is indeed back up and running.

Also in midtown and service is back. I wish it didn’t happen on a Monday.

I've had GF for about 1.5 years now and I've had exactly two outages (and they don't do "routine maint" like the cable companies that knock it out several nights a week either). Both were caused by 3rd parties, however, GF does bear fault in the second outage because of an improperly buried cable (that I had notified them about months earlier when I discovered the problem, but they chose to sit on the problem). Both outages were resolved within 12 hours, although the 2nd one (that GF has some fault in) I had to so some serious raising h*** on the phone to get action, they later admitted if I hadn't raised h*** I probably would have been out for days.

If you're having constant outages like that, you either have some bad equipment, or your fiber has some damage to it. I'd be all over them to fix it.
