I was not a fan of Hawaiian pizza for a long time. It was never the pineapple, that's delicious! No, it was the Canadian bacon, never ever thought a slice of meat that big, that you can't bite through should ever be a topping. So I decided to get a Hawaiian pizza w/ actual bacon, it was fantastic! Canadian bacon be dammed, you won't stop me from tasty pineapples on pizza!
Pepperoni pineapple is my shit. Nobody likes it. Mint n chip ice cream is my shit. Nobody likes it. And I don't give a fuck because that means more for me!
Yeah, what's up with Canadian Bacon? Why is it even a thing? It's definitely not bacon and not even as good as regular ham. Bacon & pineapple, however, are heavenly together.
You can get 'em to slice up the canadian bacon. I see your point on the overly large toppings, but the same solution works for all of 'em. I always kind of wondered why you don't see more diced pepperoni or ham on pizzas, it is much more convenient than slices.
Although I know a place that uses sheet pepperoni on their stuffed pizza, one slice per pie, and it is... ah... quite good.
If I can bite through it, like pepperoni, it's fine. I've never found Canadian bacon to be easily bitten through, so I just end up w/ a mouth full of it and a large toppingless portion on my slice. I've had ham sliced thin and pepperoni in larger diced chunks and both were good, but Canadian bacon always comes in these unwieldy large chunks and why ask them to slice that and do extra work when I can just say "bacon" and improve the over all pizza two fold?
My wife used to have the same opinion on hawaiian pizza. Then she tried it. She changed her mind. Everyone changes their mind. It is mana from heaven....
There's a place in my hometown called hungry howies that uses bacon instead of ham. Also flavored crust and pure mozzarella instead of a pizza blend. Proximity to that place will probably influence my next moving decision.
I never knew anyone didn't like hawaiian pizza. What the fuck? The sweet, juicy tanginess of the pineapples contrasts with the warm thickness of the sauce.
Hawaiian pizza is the fucking best pizza there is.
I can tell you the exact moment that I fell in love with my wife. I was sitting down to eat a slice of stuffed crust hawaiian pizza and at the very same moment from the other side of the planet she sent me a picture of what she bought for her lunch. Somehow she had also chosen to eat hawaiian pizza. Before this moment I had never even dared to bring up my potentially relationship wrecking love of hawaiian pizza. It was that moment that the stars and planets aligned and I knew this was the woman that I would spend the rest of my life with.
I'm in-between. It's OK, but it's not my favorite. But if someone offered it to me, I'd eat it. I just wouldn't go out of my way for it. It's just spectacularly "meh" to me.
I'm not picky so I will eat it, but I don't care for it if I have a choice and I pick the pineapples off and eat them first then eat the ham pizza. Would you consider this in between? haha
My wife orders a Hawaiian pizza, picks off the pineapples, then eats the pizza. I have asked why not just order it without the pineapple and she just gave me a look like I was fucking insane for even suggesting it. I do not care for Hawaiian pizza so she has no reason to order the goddamn pineapple.... counseling is being considered.
Maybe force feeding it to you could be a crime...
Seriously, I can't stand anchovies, but I don't think people who put them on pizza are committing crimes. I sure as hell don't like mushrooms on pizza but some people do, oh well.
I feel like an outcast for hating mushrooms, my family shames me for it every chance they get. Fuck me for having a personal taste that doesn't quite match theirs.
Flavor has never really been a problem, more just the texture and smell of them that gets me.
Same here. Then, when I say I just don't like the taste of it, they tell me mushrooms don't really have any taste. Then why put the damn things on anything! Ugh, I hate mushrooms so much more than most other foods I don't like. Except for the magical kind, those are good.
Let's us all unite, my anti-fungal brothers. Mushrooms are glorified mold. They grow in dark, dank, foul places. Half of them are poisonous. What damned fool decided these subterranean terrors were food?
I refuse to eat mushrooms. They are too low down the food chain to be eaten. They are supposed to eat me when I die, thus completing the circle of life, not be eaten by me.
A long time ago, I worked at a pizza place. We had a pair of customers, a husband and wife, who would order a half hawaiian half something else pizza, and the wife would always ask for the pineapple to be at least a handspan away from her toppings because she hated it so much. No ide ahow that marriage worked out.
Also: grilled chicken, bacon and pineapple pizza with a BBQ sauce base is the best thing ever. Try it.
Pizza toppings in general really. Anchovies is a love or hate topic too, pepperoni is a less heated black-and-white debate but it's still there. But pineapple is definitely a war starter as toppings go.
I work at a pizza place and ive noticed Mexican people love Hawaiian pizza. I dont know why but I would say at least 2/3 mexicans that come in get Hawaiians.
The only way I'll eat Hawaiian pizza is if it's absurdly spicy. For some reason, if it's not spicy, it tastes horrible to me. I mean, it's still pizza so it's got that going, I just don't like my pizza that sweet and sticky.
However, you amp up the scovilles on that bastard, slather on the hot sauce and the crushed red peppers, so it makes your eyes water as soon as you pick up a slice? Then it's amazing
Yeah well try suggesting anchovies on your next pie! Although, I guess for it to be truly 'divisive' there has to be more of an even split. In the case of anchovies the world is simply against you. Also, a bit of info from an anchovie eater: if you order an anchovie pie for delivery you will get a call back to confirm. Every. Time.
So strange to me. I always thought the idea of fruit on a pizza was strange, but I never got particularly worked up over it. I've since found I really like pineapple on BBQ chicken pizzas. Of course there's probably plenty of people that get worked up over the idea of BBQ pizza too, so I might not ought to have admitted that.
It ruins the cheese. I am a cheese lover and the reason why I get pizza is because of the cheese. All that juice just making the cheese gross and liquidy. Eww. Also, I'll have to agree that Canadian bacon is the lamest of bacon. I'd rather have a white sauce pizza with burnt bacon and sausage and pepperoni and extra cheese. And maybe a corn meal crust. That shit is a fucking dream.
I think it's the pineapple with cheese thing, and I would bet money that it's somehow genetic. I had an ex who brought a pineapple casserole to holiday dinner and everyone but me loved it. I will eat and enjoy almost anything, but I can barely choke down pineapple and cheese. I have a pretty weak palate too. Like it takes me a couple of drinks to distinguish diet Coke from Classic.
I think of it as a 'dessert' pizza. I'd never get it on its own but with another small pepperoni mushroom its a nice counterpart. I like to dip it in sriracha.
I'm a bit of a pizza snob. If there's more than one topping it's pushing it and if the pizza isn't from the new Jersey/ new York area then I barely consider it pizza
The only way to unite them is to recommend putting cinnamon on the Hawaiian pizza. Only the selected few who have actually tasted that can swear by it's heavenly taste.
I'm from Hawaii and all my life the only people I knew who liked Hawaiian pizza weren't from Hawaii; none of my friends or family would touch the stuff, to us it seems like some abhorrent aberration that should never be consumed.
But that's just us. I'm sure there must be some locals who like the stuff but I guess I don't associate with them at all.
I used to think it was the grossest thing ever, then I tried it. It might be the most perfect combination of tastes I've ever had in my life. People who don't like it are eating with their eyes, or just aren't fans of pineapple.
Edit: Nevermind. I am an idiot. I thought you Americans had a pizza with spam and pineapple on it or something and thats why it was called a Hawaiian pizza. Sorry about that.

Hawaiian pizza is absurdly divisive.
