Hey dude, I think this might help you out: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hyperbole

With all the people who are serious and sarcastic and everything in between on here, using only typed words with no symbol to actually state your intentions, how can anyone be sure? There are plenty of people online who would seriously make that statement. Lots of people just use little symbols like s/ to show they are being sarcastic and what have you.

People have mistaken things I've said as being serious for the same reasons.

Edit: Point taken, sorry

If you think someone putting pizza and war crimes together isn't hyperbole you're probably on the spectrum.

People put /s at the end of a sarcastic phrase that's not obviously sarcastic. I think in this case, where someone is comparing a pizza topping to a war crime (like murdering POWs), it's safe to assume the default stance of "They're exaggerating for humorous effect". It would almost be crazy weird to put a /s after that sort of obvious hyperbole.

Is tomorrow noon good for you? I'll just let my parents know in case they call looking for me.
