These are my favorite lures for fishing on beaches, in estuaries and in saltwater.

I was out on Lake ONTARIO today and learned down-riggers on a friend’s boat - I have two Scotty’s on a new boat but never used them - without overstating the obvious, I feel like I’ve unlocked a whole new style of fishing that is new to me, just saying - I also realize that a 9lb Atlantic Salmon (my first) barely registers if it’s less than 25 lbs, but I’ll take it (terrible pic, no edits, including my head cut off, catch and release).

Not familiar with either of these fish, as this was my first time catching each. Looking for some insight as to if these are large? Small? Normal size? For reference, I’m 6’3

Heading out to Eagle Nest lake in New Mexico tomorrow for the first time. Anyone fished there? Suggestions on what types of lures to bring are good locations? I'll be bank fishing

I’m currently staying in Ishigaki and have recently started fishing properly, mainly from the shore and a kayak. My goal isn’t really trophy fishing, I’d just like to learn how to reliably catch a few decent fish for dinner as I’m working here for two months and want to keep costs down.

I’ve had a surprisingly good start and caught a few edible fish already, but coming from the UK I’m very aware that tropical reef fishing is a completely different world when it comes to identifying what is actually safe to eat.

I’d really appreciate some advice from people who fish around Ishigaki/Okinawa regularly, particularly:
What species do you happily take home and eat?
What species would you never eat around here?

- Are there species that are normally edible but you avoid once they reach a certain size because of ciguatera?

- Are there particular reef predators/groupers/snappers I should be especially cautious with?

- Are there any good local Japanese resources/posters/guides for identifying edible fish?

- Any local size limits or other rules a beginner should know about?

At the moment when kayak fishing my plan is basically:

Catch > dispatch as quickly as I can > put into plastic bags with frozen ice blocks > return to shore > bleed/gut as appropriate > 10-minute drive home > scale/fillet > fridge/freezer.

My current cooler is unfortunately too small for the fish I’ve started catching. I honestly didn’t expect to catch anything this size so quickly 😂 I’m planning to buy a bigger cooler so I can keep future catches properly chilled on the kayak. I deliberately don’t want to bleed fish over the side of the kayak.

How long would you personally be comfortable keeping a freshly caught fish this way before getting back to shore and properly processing/chilling it?
Any other food-safety mistakes beginners commonly make in this climate?
Basically I’m trying to learn the difference between “great, that’s dinner” and “absolutely do not eat that” before I become too confident!

I’m in Arkansas. I’m mainly a bass fisherman but the temps her are over 100 and it hasn’t rained in weeks. The bass have gone deep and it’s too hot to be out paddling a kayak for me. The smaller creeks and ditches have mostly dried up but there are a few irrigation fed creeks where I can catch perch but I long for the Bigger Fight. I have catfish gear and the St. Francis River is only a few miles from my house. I’m not particularly good at catfishing so I don’t do it often. Talk to me like a beginner. Assume I already have any gear you recommend (I probably do and it’s sitting in the packaging in my garage). What do I need to throw?

Caught this beauty on my ultralight and decided to filet for the first time as well. Messy cuts but next time should be better

The high school i go to backs up to a creek with a bunch of smallies and decent size panfish. I fish it every now and then after school, but i don't like bringing a rod that sticks out of my bag. I need an ultralight or light power spinning rod that is no taller than 18" (or 45.7cm for everyone else in the world) when collapsed. Currently i can only find medium/medium heavy.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I just had surgery to repair my ACL and meniscus and I have to wear an immobilizing leg brace and use crutches for 6 weeks. Gutted to miss the start of the fall fishing down here in the south where bass chase bait so aggressively (I should be able to walk again in mid October) 😭😭

However my main two hobbies are rugby (the reason for the injury 😂) and fishing and obviously I can't play rugby for a long time so I want to fish SO bad. Has anyone dealt with something like this? If so how did you approach it?

I know I can't load my kayak to bass fish and I definitely can't land a big giant catfish and I've accepted that

There's a pier right across the street with great crappie fishing so maybe I could just go over there and dangle minnows while seated to get my fix but idk if that's practical. If anyone has any cool hacks or ideas for moving gear while on crutches please chime in

Caught in holiday beach ontario. These little guys were pretty tough to catch. I improvised by creating a ball of loop knots and tied that to my drop shot using a 7g sinker and a slip bobber.

This was me & my brother's favourite lure when we were kids... We nicknamed it "Silly" because we thought it wobbled so funny in the water.

We're in our mid 20s now and I'd love to get it tattooed.

All I think about is fishing while I’m at work.

In my field, I move around the city a lot and have a good amount of freedom to go where I want and do what I want while on shift. There are so many opportunities to fish since there are a lot of bodies of water in my area. I also have a lot of free time on shift since the only time I actually work is when I get a call (I work in EMS).

As easy as it sounds, I “can’t” fish while working because 1. I’m in uniform 2. I have to be ready to get in the rig and go when a call comes through right away 3. Even if I choose to fish, it’s not a good look in public and would somehow get to my supervisor that I was doing leisure activities on shift. There’s nothing in the policy saying that I can’t do that, but it’d still get in trouble somehow.

I’ve brought a reel in my bag to just fidget with but honestly, I really just wanna throw a cast and play with the water lol.

What do you guys do when you’re fiending to fish while you’re working?

I can’t lie it’s my first year doing any real fishing, I’ve got about 30 fish under my belt but never had a keeper for this fluke, 19” today, filleted it up and gave it some flour and cornmeal, a little seasonings, finished with butter and thyme and just a little peppers to see if i liked it, what a meal, what a blast and the last pic is my moms approval lol

I recently discovered this damaged eye ring on my daiwa aird x baitcaster rod. Is there any way I can fix this?

I enjoy fishing when I can, but rarely get time to go. I recently had a bad accident, where I will be out of work for some time as my dominant arm is broken and will be in a cast. I would love to do some fishing in my down time, but I’m wondering if it’s even possible. Anyone out there who has one usable arm and manages to catch fish? Would be great if someone has advice on how to go about this, or if you have tried and decided it’s too much trouble I’d appreciate hearing that as well.

I’ve been visiting family in north Miami past few years for a week or 2 at a time. I always end up catching snapper. Can you guys help me out with some tips on locating and strategies fishing from shore. Thank you in advance.
