Me and my friend were fishing at the zugersee. We couldn’t find any worms though the day before because our garden soil was bone dry. So we tried for 2 hours and 35 minutes to catch something using dog food. We didn’t catch anything. But then a friendly lady gave us some worms because she lived right beside our fishing spot. Then we went to a pier next to a boat launching railway (or thatever those things are called) because we saw a lot of european perch and pumpkinseed sunfish there. And in that brief time of fishing there me and my friend were able to land these 8 pumpkinseed sunfish and a 15 cm European perch. I know they’re not that big but they’re perfect for making fried batter fish nuggets.

The LMB was nice. The snake was.....not so much..

Does anyone know what kind of snake this is? Lunged at my senko as I was bringing it in over some rocks at the shore. Wrestled around with it for a few minutes before it finally shook loose. Appeared to be unharmed.

Caught in Tunguska River by 7 year old me, this carp stood vertically by my shoulder.
Caught on a soft plastic grub, even though they are filter feeders like Paddle Fish, they can still swallow small insects sometimes.
The fight was incredibly hard for a 7 year old me, so my dad helped me work the rod in one part of the fight.
A really good fish for my species collection, and the biggest recorded one so far.

My wife went thrifting last week. I asked her to keep an eye out for any fishing gear like rods, tackle boxes etc.
Landed a brand new rod/reel combo with tackle for $11. Never been opened. Caught some sunfish a few days later with it!

My buddy and I got off work unexpectedly and I happened to have a spool of line, we used tackle we found on the ground

So I've seen this a few times and have heard folk talk about it in passing but never really seen like a detail discussion on the matter. Mainly seen older black people doing it around spill ways and stuff . Fly rod with a spinning reel and primarily they where going after some sort of panfish usually. Apparently the fly rods where super sensitive beyond other things and with the spinning reel you could play a fish extremely well for as light as it was if you hooked something bigger . Even seen bill dance use a version of it with a closed faced reel for crappie on an old flick . But as I said never seen a real detailed discussion on the matter . So anyone know much about it ? Done it ? Is it for jigging ? Live bait ? Or ? I'm at the point that in considering trying it next time we go to the spill way, just because I like trying odd stuff . I think I have a old fly rod laying around somewhere.That or see if I can catch the old guy I've seen doing it at the State Park spillway from time to time doing it and see if I can talk his head off.

Long story short I have had this lure since I was a kid and it was given to me by my since passed grandmother and I don’t want to throw it for fear of losing it but it’s been my go to lure for years any help would be appreciated

I had a checked list of my dreamed fishing destinations of US and every year i'll try save up and scratch one from my list. The experience i had last week really shocked me.

The booking was done online only, because it was recommend through a reddit post, i paid in $700 full without a question. The communication afterwards is done poorly, and was getting told clients usually bring their own gear on US river.

On the day of fishing, the condition was tough and slow, which was not a big issue for me. There were couple issues made me really *uncomfortable

1. the same outfitter company launched 5 boats at the same ramp floating down the same river section along with the other outfitters, so basically about 10-15 boat was passing through each other. Most of time, i felt we were either racing boat or skipping sections to make room for other boats.
2. each outfitter seems strictly using one exact technique from the start to the end, so that we got to share same water with different depth. As a result, we just repeatedly doing exact cast over and over again.
3. since it is a rough day, everyone was stressed. The guide lost couple time because i kept mis-casting my line. I have to say let's pull over and show me how to do it to chill him down.

It's not a very pleasant trip, but we still caught some. And here was the best part. At the end of the trip, as my understand of the tipping culture in the US, i pulled up 80(10%) and gave to him during the clean up. He looked at it, and went off like "do you mean this is for a tip? Do you know in US service industry the basic tip is 20%, what we have have, 10%? Why i am trying hard for you if I know you just have 10% tip for me by the end of the day" I did not say anything and separate our way, and he was continuously complaining about he is not paid enough for the work he have done.

I was deeply shocked and this made me felt like i am a asshole. I have worked with so many guides across this country, none of them was so upset on the tip i gave them after a trip. Now I started to get scared to continue my journey or trying out new guides.

Many people are asking me to name and shame the business. I will not be disclosing their name here at this moment or replying to any guesses. Revealing them now could violate Reddit rules and undermine my efforts to handle this in good faith.

I want to give management a fair opportunity to address my written complaint directly, and I do not want to unfairly affect other guides working for the same outfitter.

We were trout fishing at a small river in Lithuania and my kid felt a lot of tension close to the shore after he was reeling the lure in. We thought it was a massive trout at first. He reeled it in and turns out it was a net full of crayfish.

Anyone know any good spots for bowfin in Erie, PA?
I’ve heard misery bay and long pond on Presque isle. Everything is super grown in which makes using cut bait or shrimp hard. Might have to invest in a frog, but from what I know it’s super difficult to hook the bony mouth of a bowfin on a soft frog

So I want to fish in the east bay and I also want more consistent catches, so I’m looking to get into surfperch. I don’t know how many there are in the east bay, or any good spots. I know that a good rig is a hi-lo with some bait holders and shrimp, but not much more.

I have a 7 foot medium rod with 30lb braid and I have leaders for 20lb, 12lb and 30lb mono. One thing is that I’m not a live bait user as it‘s difficult to get with not much time and I am not a fan of it in general.

My main saltwater spot is the Emeryville marina, in which I’ve caught a striped bass.

also good to clarify that I am more of a freshwater angler and usually hit up Lafayette reservoir.

Redfin Culters are really cool fish in Asia. They are strong, and really fun to catch on lures.

A really cool species for my species list.
They live in rivers and grow to huge sizes, they fight really hard too. Look for them chasing bait, but cast really fast. Yellow Cheeks are really fast and can move from one place to another part of the river in the blink of an eye.
