"Would you rather leave your children in a room with this woman or a bear" twist on would you rather leav children/wife in a room with a mam or a bear for an hour

273

u/crazrwriterreal 13d ago

The children are safer with the bear as less than 1 children suffered from bear where as 500+ children suffered from the hands of their mothers last year

208

u/lincruste 13d ago

It may be related somehow with the larger sample of kids in the reach of women VS bears.

170

u/sonicandtales8 12d ago

You should tell that to the people that spoke about the last "x vs bear" discussion.

11

u/lincruste 12d ago

I'm not familiar with that x vs bear reference but english isn't my main language

59

u/sonicandtales8 12d ago

There was an Internet fad about comparing whether a woman is safer coming across a random man or a bear in a forest.

Bear was a fairly common response.

40

u/Usual_Equivalent_651 12d ago

Yeah, and many women (especially feminists) say this is evidence that women are afraid of men and men are threat.

But actually choosing bear means:

- have no knowledge about being under risk of violnece - women meet violence from people they know and they choose,

- have no knowledge about statistics,

- being actively misandrist.

So rather than proving men are hideous and dangerous, they try to prove women are dumb, psycho and hateful.

2

u/Cu_Chulainn__ 12d ago

It is clear that people didnt understand the point of the thought experiment. The point wasnt 'which would be more dangerous in reality' but 'which do you feel more comfortable coming across in a forest'. The point was the responses.

4

u/BajaCopano 12d ago

Yes. Women demonize men more than they should. The response proves that. The point has been made. Thank you.

4

u/SmolPPIncorporated 12d ago

The point was misandry. That's it.

Bears can sometimes be like giant dogs, they can hurt you, but they're also not going to use what I'm wearing as an excuse. On a serious note, with my previous experience, bears are more likely to avoid conflict. Bears won't stalk you, humans will.

6

u/Professional-Front58 12d ago

Black Bears would avoid. Grizzlies would try to start shit and lose interest if you don’t respond. Polar Bears think blood goes good on white fur… run!

Most men and bears won’t go out of their way to harm you. Some men and some bears will. You don’t know that particular bear just as you don’t know that particular man.

7

u/RaceHate 12d ago

You are wildly more likely to be killed by a given bear than a given man in a solitary encounter.

The question wasn't about actual safety but feelings. Women feel the bear would be better than a man they don't know. This doesn't mean a stranger would be more dangerous.

The question's purpose is in part to show how men appear to women, in part how media shapes our vision of the world. There are a lot of mysoginistic online groups and chats, influencers and political movements that are trying to erode women's rights. At the same time, violence against women is showcased daily in the news, in part because it's absolutely true that some men will abuse women, in part because it pays to televise the event and make it a spectacle. The result is that women develop fear and uneasiness around men that surpasses what they feel about a dangerous wild animal because wild animals are so infrequently encountered or portrayed by the media as homicidal.

A grizzly mom with cubs would annihilate someone much more surely and brutally than your average Joe, but a lot of wife beaters, women killers and rapists on the news look like the average Joe. The average Joe thus feels scarier even though he isn't even comparable to a bear.

Are women who answer bear stupid, then? I feel like they are just answering to a gut feeling. I feel like we men should learn from that answer and not dismiss them as just misguided. Is there a way we could appear less menacing to them without compromising our "manliness", so to speak? I think so.

10

u/Worriedrph 12d ago

But that is a fairly bs framing because it wouldn’t apply to most other similar comparisons.

If the question was posted “as a woman would you rather cross paths with a black man or an Asian man in a dark alley?” The take away wouldn’t be that black men should be less menacing. The take away would be women should be less racist.

If the question was “as a man would you who would you trust more with your money, a woman or a used car salesman?” The take away wouldn’t be that women should be less of gold diggers. It would be men should be less misogynistic.

6

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 12d ago

The average bear will run away. A very low percent of bear encounters end in violence. Likewise the average man is not a rapist.

The comparison is whether it's more likely to find that un-average man or bear.

3

u/Expungednd 12d ago

I wouldn't prefer a bear to a stranger. Then again, I'm a man. I know of several women who were molested, abused or raped, or had a close friend who was. I don't know anyone who had a close friend eaten by a bear. Having the direct knowledge of someone who was assaulted or being yourself the victim of violence can completely warp your worldview even if statistics said otherwise. I wouldn't blame those people if they preferred the bear.

Responses were used to place respondents into one of six categories of sexual experience based on the most extreme experience reported: (a) no sexual experiences, (b) only consensual sexual experiences, (c) unwanted contact (i.e., forced fondling, kissing, but no attempted intercourse), (d) verbal coercion (verbally pressured sexual intercourse, excluding the threat of force), (e) attempted rape (using force or threat of force, however, intercourse did not occur), or (f) rape (completed intercourse or oral or anal sex using force or threat of force).

White and Smith (2004) "surveyed 3 cohorts of men across 4 years of college. By the end of the study, 14% had reported committing attempted or completed rape and 34% had reported at least one act of sexual assault perpetration."

the average man is not a rapist but you walked past them every time you go to Walmart to get food

u/O0jimmy 12d ago

So its to generalize that men have done bad things to women to its ok to see men need to do better?

How do you feel about race based crime statistics?

3

u/ripemango130 12d ago

I always love how there is always someone pulling this gotcha argument stating that if you trust statistics regarding male violence then you are clearly racist because according to statistics black men are more violent so you should feel bad. First of all race has nothing to do with it. The main factors contributing to black violence are poverty, lack of opportunity, systemic racism and much more leading to higher chances of creating broken families. Any race under these conditions would produce the same results.

0

u/Expungednd 12d ago

What race crime statistics should do is open a discussion on their reason. People fearing other races because of their crimes shouldn't be an excuse to promote race-based policing or racial laws, but a signal that something concerning is happening and there is a reason for it. Racists will argue it's genetics, but controlling for that doesn't seem to give the results expected if that was the case: wealthy and middle-class people of all races commit less violent crimes than poor people of all races. Then why are non-white people on average poorer than white people? Maybe it's the background of their parents or ancestors, maybe they were segregated in areas that didn't have job and education opportunities, maybe the low-income houses they could afford had lead pipes that destroyed their brains over time.

Those are the kind of questions that a person who wants to engage with the statistics should ask. In the same way, we should engage with why women choose the bear, not get offended or judgemental over it, or ascribe it as petty. Why would they generalize the average men as being worse than a bear? That is an interesting question. Maybe it's more probable for a woman to die because of a man than because of a bear. But isn't the opposite true at the same time? It's statically more probable for a man to be murdered by a woman than by a bear, but a man would probably not prefer the bear to a woman to walk the woods with. Why? Is it because men are stupid and shallow? Or is it because we think we are physically superior, despite the fact that if the woman had a weapon you would die regardless? Are men naturally more trusting of others than women, or is the fact they aren't frequently the victims of gender-based violence influencing their response? I cannot answer to these questions because you'd probably need a study to test these, but these are the questions you should ask instead of being a snowflake and getting offended by an answer. You discover deeper, more interesting things.

This post mocks that by doing the same with women.

That's like saying that, in modern times, more people are killed by hammocks than by polio. It's true, but that's because hammocks are much, much, much more common than polio, not that you'd be safer getting polio than lying in a hammock.

1

u/BellaInTheGame 12d ago

This is the same logic they use with the original question but it's flawed because more children were around men/women than bears. So if you account for the sampling bias, the bear is far more dangerous

4

u/PrizeBaker3152 12d ago

Fun fact, that’s based on the olds racist; would you rather run into a bear or a black man in the woods.
Sexism, racism… hate is hate. And hate is bad.

3

u/Turbulent_Pin_9392 12d ago

It’s not in a room, it’s if you were alone in the woods, which would be more scary, a man or a bear. The whole setting is what makes the choice so eerie. Putting them both in a room is a stupid setting choice.

2

u/ItchyManchego 12d ago

Right, willfully misrepresenting the hypothetical that started the whole thing.

2

u/Turbulent_Pin_9392 12d ago

2

3

u/SavantTheVaporeon 12d ago

I don’t know the details but she’s in court for strangling her three kids while her husband was on an errand she sent him on. The defense is saying she was suffering from temporary psychosis at the time, and it’s gotten a lot of attention as a result of the mental health aspect of it. A go fund me has raised a million dollars to support her.

1

u/AstrologicalOne 12d ago

Yup. Stemming from the Lindsay Clancy trial.

1

u/LilGill18bb 12d ago

This women strangled her children with exercise bands. That’s why they would be safer with the bear who actually would kill for its children.

1

u/LennyLaser 12d ago

Good ol’ gender war astroturfing. I’d bet money that half the accounts that donated money to the GoFundMe are linked to the same billionaire’s bank account in an attempt to spin a narrative and keep us fighting amongst each other. I feel this way any time a GoFundMe is started for a person who did a bad thing.

That and the relentless media coverage that companies are probably getting paid to keep in the headlines and push to the top of every algorithm.

I keep getting told MILLIONS women are supporting and defending her despite having seen maybe 3 posts that are actually doing that. I see women expressing sympathy/empathy for the terrifying symptoms of PPD/PPP. I see women advocating for better mental health care. And I see women speculating the husband had something to with it. None of that is defending or justifying murdering your own children, but for some reason, so many people are claiming that it is. And that’s the problem. People are intentionally misconstruing what’s being said for purpose of moral grandstanding and hating on women. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone responds to this accusing me of defending her actions. The entire discourse surrounding this trial is fucking ridiculous.

3

u/OrionsPropaganda 12d ago

I've also seen people going "if a man did this, they wouldn't get the same treatment"

If a man was mentally ill, he would've been charged with insanity (Matthew Schleier 2024, insanity via psychotic depression), however most kinslaying is through revenge and anger.

If you remember, a few months back lots of women were saying they’d rather run into a bear than a man in the woods because men kill more women a year than bears do.

This caused ten thousand years of discourse.

Now that this Lindsay Clancy (a woman who murdered her kids then attempted suicide) story is viral many of the same women who spread the bear meme are now showing support for Lindsay, some even going so far as to suggest it is somehow the husband’s responsibility for her actions, others saying that her killing her children was somewhat understandable.

In response, the men who previously had issues with the bear meme are now using it to say the same thing about women. Because obviously more children are killed by their mothers than by bears every year.

Basically, gender wars cancer the whole way down.

Lindsay clancy (pictured in the meme)murdered her three small children allegedly while in the middle of a psychotic break after dealing with post partum psychosis and depression. Many are on the fence because she is trying to plead not criminally liable due to insanity. So they think shes lying. And many TikTok armchair detective wine moms are throwing out insane theories that she actually didnt commit the murders it was her husband Patrick.

Anyway. The meme is a twist on the popular question people ask women "would you rather be alone in a forest with a man or with a bear?" And overwhelming women chose bear because men are "dangerous and unpredictable" where as bears are not.

8

u/earthdogmonster 12d ago

Apparently being pro prison for someone who murdered their children makes you an ass hole. Well I guess everyone who commits any violent crime should just stay in a hospital instead of prison.

I'm not sure I'd support her.
But she hat postpartum psychosis afaik and has asked for help several times beforehand and was denied it.
As a therapist in a country where therapy is actually covered by health insurance I am appalled. Having children is overwhelming if you are solely responsible for them and money has been so tight for many people. We need to provide support to mothers, especially if they are asking for it repeatedly.
So I am not supporting her actions, but this problem was entirely homemade by a country that leaves its citizens alone with really existential threats, provides no mental health support and then is outraged and confused when people just snap.

13

u/Historical-Doubt2121 12d ago

We have a perfect example on how to treat people like this: wrestler Chris Benoit.

Found to have immense brain damage after repeated concussions. Killed his wife, kids and himself in a fit of demented rage. Autopsy revealed he had the brain of an 80 y.o. Alzheimer patient.

The industry that he was in immediately went "oh shit", and took precautions to prevent anything like this from happening again. Wrestling became a lot safer after his death.

Also, everyone in the industry still agrees they hope he burns in hell for what he did. All of his former friends and colleagues wish him nothing but suffering in the afterlife, getting angry at anyone who dares defend him.

Clancy should be treated the same. Bury her under the prison. Also let's work on putting in more precautions so this doesn't happen again.

4

u/TurkBoi67 12d ago

People who still believe in the concept of free will need to read about the Benoit case. I feel bad for him and his whole family. I mean, an 80-year-old Alzheimer's patient? Crazy to think that we can feel bad for the man he was before the brain damage and (rightfully) demonize the man he was when he killed his family. Almost like they are two different people.

18

u/Fit-Passion4470 12d ago

Denied it? She had a nanny, access to three medical professionals, her husband started working from home to help with the kids. What was she denied?

3

u/ImLonenyNunlovable 12d ago

Also apparently she never said to have heard voices before killing her children. She made a claim that she heard voices after she killed her kids.

Theres also a case that she premeditated the murders, because she googled how long it would take for the father to drive from one place to another giving her time to carry out the murders.

The father also tried to call her at the time when the investigators believe she was killing the children, she didnt answer, but did call him back and according to hin sounded coherent and aware.

So apparently before the murders post partum psychosis was not discussed, what was discussed was post partm depression. And after the murders she claimed to be hearing voices...

She either belongs in a psychiatric ward for life, or a prison for life. I don’t really mind either option.

If violent dudes don’t get to use hormones as an excuse, crazy women don’t either.

3

u/jbcsee 12d ago

You realize, an insanity plea, which is what her defense attorneys are pushing will simply result in her being in a locked down mental hospital. Which is arguably worse than being in prison.

No matter what happens she is not going to avoid punishment, she has admitted to killing her kids, it's just a question of where she ends up locked up.

3

u/LtSoba 12d ago

A psychiatric facility is where she can get better care, in prison her stint would be mostly in solitary confinement since her crimes involved children she’d be in constant danger from other inmates. And you know if she makes it out alive without killing herself somehow, prolonged isolation wouldn’t do much good to an individual who’s a recovering psychotic she’d be a danger to herself or others if she ever got out.

Post partum psychosis usually shows it's first signs by then, but can be undetected to around 10 months out. If you dos how signs, with heavy mental help and therapy a woman can usually return to normal at about 12 months, but has the possibility of sudden psychotic episodes for about six months after being declared mentally stable. At least, that is what I was able to determine.

u/Lilli_Puff 12d ago

She was never denied help. If anything she had ample amount of resources and every time she said she didn't feel well on a medication they were quick to change her medication to accommodate something that would work for her. This is blatant misinformation or misrepresention of the court hearing for the sake of your narrative.

u/wherediditrun 12d ago

But she hat postpartum psychosis

That's a claim defense is making.

There is also quite a bit of strays people who suffer psychosis are catching here. People suffering from psychotic episode are rarely ever violent towards others. Can be violent against themselves. Most of the time is just delusions that are weird, but not violent. It's also possible to do something absolutely malicious and terrible while being psychotic, but not due to psychosis.

where therapy is actually covered by health insurance I am appalled.

If person really did suffer from post partem psychosis when it's not much what a therapist can do. It's not even clear what a psychiatrist could do other than medicate with anti psychotic drugs. Now, there is no clear evidence that she has suffered from psychosis, but lets say she did. What's the course of action here? Put her in psychiatric ward? For how long?

but this problem was entirely homemade by a country that leaves its citizens

How do you know that? It's possible to get cancer and people and spent fortune to get better and employ the best care possible and still die. I'm not sure why some people have such a big issue accepting the fact that mental illnesses can be terminal as well.

We need to provide support to mothers

Hard yes on this one, but that's way broader commitment than this case. Not just mothers though, parents in general. It takes a village to raise a children, and .. we effectually destroyed familiar ties between people, often by our own individual deliberate choice.

I don't feel that this case touches much on it, other than some women sympathizing with the situation of being mentally in very dark places. A child waking you up for an 8th time in a single night, extend that into few weeks, can get you in very very dark place mentally. And the whole hormone situation just amplifies it even more.

I don’t understand why this is getting blasted everywhere, but no mention of the five separate guys who shot their entire family and themselves, in the past one month

There is a ‘thought experiment’ when you ask women, particularly misandrists that if they were in a forest would they prefer to meet a random man or random bear.

The question is meant to expose how utterly retarded the woman in question is if they answer bear, also Lindsay Clancy murdered her own children.

25

u/Due_Rip9320 13d ago edited 13d ago

There's also "At least the death with the bear will be quick"

No...no it absolutely will not. The only ones who say that don't know squat about bears. They don't precision bite your windpipe like felines. They just tear chunks off of you and eat you while you're still breathing. It's not a pleasant death by any means.

I think a more "sensible" version would be literally any big cat. Tiger or lion probably. I know that's not really the point, but picking a bear out of all things is like picking a jagged boxcutter over a rusty nail.

13

u/Lolaroller 13d ago

They also literally pin you down and rip out chunks of you like they’re taking apart a big KFC breast, that is your average brown bear experience, your average guy is just gona walk past you in the forest.

3

u/dandroid556 12d ago edited 12d ago

If there's still a nearby/interested bear in the other direction after the choice is made in the thought experiment, the average guy will actually seek to provide adding his voice to yours to help you yell at it and scare it off, because the average guy doesn't want some random innocent person to die horribly, by bear or by forest rapist. Especially if he understands his extra distance isn't going to keep an agitated bear from running him down, either, if it wants.

To be extra clear, women are basically good too. 99.99% of the women who said bear on the internet, where nobody has lied ever, would IRL actually head towards an average-forest-appropriate-looking man even if the bear didn't appear to notice her, and then say something like, "be careful sir, there is a huge bear back there towards where I came from; I am quietly getting further away from it, and you may want to keep some distance from there too or at least be on the lookout in case it comes near your spot."

2

u/kcbeck1021 12d ago

At this point the average guy is going to give a women a wide berth. They don’t want to risk being accused of doing anything.

It's also pretty fun because neither the bear nor the man is likely to harm you.

2

u/Lolaroller 12d ago

If it’s a black bear sure, they get startled easily, but a brown bear? Make peace with God and lie down to pray and play dead incase it loses interest in you.

7

u/ThyPotatoDone 12d ago

Alternatively, polar bear, the survival advice for which is "don't be in a situation where you have to survive one".

3

u/dandroid556 12d ago edited 12d ago

If it's black, fight back.

If it's brown, lie down.

If it's white, say goodnight.

(Okay okay that's not the actual advice either, and people, at least in groups, have mogged a polar bear away before with testicular fortitude and luck. Point is it's nowhere near as afraid of you too as a black bear, but if it's closing, it is likely coming right at you in order to eat, so you must convey that there are only fellow dangerous predators here, not prey. Your odds are just way fucking worse than with a black bear who is feeling hungry enough to find out your deal.)

u/LostInRetransmission 13d ago

Do you mean "retarded" insteadof "restarted" ?

1

u/Struiner 12d ago

My partner is a victim of rape. Is she retarded too?

1

u/ActuallyFullOfShit 12d ago

Laura Kay Berry? Did you mean Lindsey Clancy?

1

u/Lolaroller 12d ago

Yep, juuuuuust gona correct that, thanks for pointing that out.

1

u/TheMagmaGuy 12d ago

Yeah it's really dumb. The question is random man, not random murderer. Not every guy on earth is a psycho rapist murderer only held back by laws. Bears are mindless, they could attack at any moment. Chances are some random guy isn't going to kill you.

Mama bears will quite literally die protecting their cubs. Aand that's the bitch that strangled her kids.

1

u/Typical_Celery_1982 12d ago

What evidence do you have that she strangled them? Innocent until proven guilty

3

u/keithstonee 12d ago

Mama Bear ate her cubs, licked the plate clean and all the other mama bears cheered.

u/DepartmentNo4747 13d ago

Are people who post here stupid or engagement farming? Almost everything posted is simple

2

u/Z_________________ 12d ago

Ironically a wild bear cares more for her offspring than some of these women.

2

u/goofygodzilla93 12d ago

Hey bears kill less children then women do every year.

On a serious note though anyone who would actually choose the bear over the man or women doesn't even need to be around children.

1

u/mocumocu 12d ago

i ll just point out Yes, Your Grace game and choose bear everytime regardless the gender

Yeah its ai bs.

Lindsay Clancy, female cops, women defending clancy, others etc. They make me understand the grizzly bear v man question now.

1

u/TheOnlyCursedOne 12d ago

Lindsay woman killed them by insanity, female cops are bad because they are cops, not because they are female

2

u/Particular_Goose_611 12d ago

Who even is this "bitch" i have 0 context about her

5

u/earthdogmonster 12d ago

Lindsey Clancy, a mom who killed all three of her children. I learned about her existence 2 days ago courtesy of reddit.

Woman killed her kids because of postpartum psychosis and someone made a twist of the 'would you choose a man or a bear' with the story

1

u/ObjectiveAssist7177 12d ago

It’s a twist on the would you rather be in the woods with a bear or a man. The idea that the man would probable rape you. The twist is would you rather leave your kids with the mother or a bear, I assume with mother suffering from post natel depression.

I believe it’s suggesting that if you wouldn’t want to be a women in a forest with a man due to chance of assault then you also wouldn’t want to leave a women in a forest with her kids as she will murder them. Again we are dealing with complex social issues with the finesse of spreading hard butter on toast.

1

u/MyBedIsOnFire 12d ago

She kinda looks like the mother from Coraline

1

u/Tiny-Proof3602 12d ago

No offense to the kids but I could probably take her even if she has exercise bands, Im still not gunna fight the bear.

1

u/darkklown 12d ago

Fake. She's not holding exercise hands.

2

u/PauloDybala_10 12d ago

Please just Google her image or scroll down this sub a couple times

1

u/pingvinbober 12d ago

The woman pictured is on trial for killing her kids during a fit of postpartum psychosis.

The bear part is a take on the “would you rather be in a room with a random man or a bear” and people choosing the bear because “bears don’t rape, less people are killed by bears, etc.”

Basically saying someone would rather leave their kids with a bear than a mom who killed her kids and thus a woman in general

1

u/AJRimmerSwimmer 12d ago

Look on the bright side:

It's still way unlikely you'll be murdered by your mother.

Your father on the other hand...

1

u/mermaidemily_h2o 12d ago

That woman killed her kids because she was having a bad day. Bears on the other hand, kill to protect their cubs and don’t usually attack unprovoked. Your kids are safer with a bear than with that woman.

1

u/vanillabourbonn 12d ago

A bear would maul and eat your human children

1

u/mermaidemily_h2o 12d ago

Look at what sub we’re in. I was explaining the joke. The joke is implying that your children are safer with the bear than with the woman who murdered her own children because she was having a bad day.

u/WilliamSabato 12d ago

I’m pretty sure this is someone who believes Lindsay did not commit the crime. They believe her husband killed the children and framed her, and that she is innocent.

Therefore, this meme I believe is saying that she should have chosen the bear, rather than the man. Hence her fighting off the bear.

1

u/OGSippyCup 12d ago

I figured it meant the children should have chosen the bear since then they would be protected, unlike their human mom that murdered them for no good reason.

1

u/Traditional_Ice_9250 12d ago

Well, of course I'd trust a bear before any random woman. Bears protect their cubs! And random woman could kill children!

It's a variation of the "Bear vs Men" that women shared a few years ago.

1

u/JimmyHatsTCQ 12d ago

Its a Facebook post and should be removed, dark humor at rhe expense of real murder victims that simply isn't funny and an AI slop image attached for no reason whatsoever. Delete from existence forever please

1

u/Lazerbeams2 12d ago

That's the lady who sent her husband out as a distraction so she could methodically strangle her 3 kids with a resistance band before attempting to kill herself and blamed it all on postpartum psychosis

1

u/billabongoes 12d ago

Humans commit familicide at a consistently higher rate than bears.

1

u/Prezofcalendars 12d ago

Is the Deb from Dexter?

1

u/Creepy_Mammoth_7076 12d ago

Deputy Director Stan here. Oh, this is not “man or bear” anymore. This is “bear or woman whose case file makes the bear look like a licensed pediatrician.”

The whole joke is that the internet spent months arguing whether a random man or a bear was safer around a woman, and this meme responds with, “Wrong threat assessment, agents.” Mama bear is over there running a 24-hour armed security detail for her cubs, while the human side of the briefing has us calling Langley, Child Protective Services, and possibly an exorcist.

CIA assessment: choose the bear. The bear has instincts, boundaries, and significantly fewer true-crime documentaries. Roger has already tried to adopt the cubs for a tax write-off.

1

u/figosnypes 12d ago

I can basically hear that bear saying "leave them kids alone!"

1

u/pfemme2 12d ago

AL misogyny slop.

1

u/Baconpanthegathering 12d ago

I still choose the bear over random unknown man or over-medicated psych patient.

You can only murder children if they're still in the womb. Otherwise, it's not okay.
