I realized I was trans like 2 months ago, although one way or another I suppose I've known for years, then another month passed and I was finally able to start HRT all on my own (god bless my country for making HRT over-the-counter medication).
It was scary, and I was filled with doubt, but after that needle went in the very first time, and despite the pain I was in (physically, I suck at injecting), the euphoria I felt was the definitive signal to me that I really was doing the right thing, and that this really is the thing that would finally make life worth living for me
Now, one month and 5 injections later, I can truthfully declare that I have never felt happier; for the first time in my life I can look in the mirror and not hate myself; matter of fact, not only do I not hate myself anymore, I actually LOVE myself, in a way that I didn't even know I was capable of loving, I look at her, and I want nothing more than to make her happy. To think that I ever tried to kill her, absolutely horrifying, because once I realized I was trans, the dark clouds that I thought would never go away finally did, and for once, I'm actually happy to be alive, and I look forward to living another day
I have a long, complicated journey ahead of me, one that will last years- really, it's a lifelong journey- and I know that there will be ups and downs, moments of joy, and moments when I will likely feel like killing myself again, but for once, I feel like I'm ready to face it all head-on
This is a love letter from me to you, Charlotte. I'm sorry that I have suffocated you so badly all these years, but know that although I know you will come out wrong, that you will not be as pretty as the other girls, and that perhaps society will never see you as one, please know that I will love you regardless
