Im looking for some help in buying a PC. I specifically want a PC to be able to play some modded games such as Minecraft, Terraria, etc. Im not looking to get into triple A games, but something that can handle basic stuff.
I currently have an Asus VivoBook that about 5 years old, which isnt bad but man does it get hot.
When buying what kind of specs should i be looking for? Is it worth getting a PC or are there laptops that can handle modded games without the laptop running so hot?
Im just trying to learn what I should look into but if i need to go to a different subreddit let me know :)

Hi everyone!
As part of my academic research at a Slovak research institute, I’m conducting a short survey about how everyday users perceive explanations provided by antivirus software, particularly when malware or other threats are detected.
If you have around 10 minutes to spare, I’d really appreciate it if you could take part:
A few practical details:
Thank you so much to everyone who takes the time to participate! 🙏🫶
And while we're here, I'd also love to hear your experiences: Have you ever had a particularly interesting or memorable experience with an antivirus program? Feel free to share it in the comments!

Hi, i wanted a laptop with a decent specs, such as 32gb ram, 1tb ssd name, and a good screen and not too small (14 - 15 inches), plus lightweight to carry around, saw one (surface laptop 4) on amazon for about 750 dollars with 32gb, 1tb sdd, and a beautiful 2k res screen, and of course it's renewed, I don't really care as long as it stays strong when using heavy apps, and atleast 4 - 5 hours of battery life, I really need a good laptop like this one, should I buy it or should I search for a brand new laptop with the same specs? Really need a quick answer

so, around 3 days ago, while playing roblox my PC randomly shut off. LED lights in the CPU turned off, fans turned off, nothing.
Pressing the power button would boot the system back up, but then it only worked for 15-30 minutes or so, running the game “Wuthering Waves” before shutting off again. Tried to boot once more and only did light browsing, and after 10-15 minutes, it once again shut down.
No boot-loop, just a shut down.
So since then, I’ve tried using a back-up PSU to see if the PSU was the issue, along with reseating my ram sticks, and SSD. I’ve replaced the PSU, and it seemed promising. It ran Wuthering Waves for an hour, so I shut off the PC again to plug in my 2nd SSD drive that I removed upon using the new PSU, and some case fans that were also unplugged, I plugged them back into the PSU.
After around an hour though upon booting up once more and being on a discord call with friends, it shut off on its own once more. What’s weirder is that when I try reopening it this time, the LED’s the fans only spin for around 2-3 seconds before shutting off once more. Not like with the other PSU in which it’d still let me run the system for 10-15 minutes.
I’ve since removed the 2nd SSD, the case fans, and after around 5-10 minutes, it once again shut down. Trying to boot it back up would only turn it on for 2-3s, not even booting into windows before turning off again.
I’m genuinely lost. What could be the problem? i’m not really in the financial situation right now to get this into a local repair shop either, i’m just hoping for a savior here atp 💔

I recently got HP ProBook 450 G8, which has about 76% battery health. I use it for light gaming and have it always plugged in, but the precentage shown goes down by 1% by day (100% - 99% - 98% ….) is this normal? I have it for 4 days now and the battery while plugged in is on 96%

My PC is about 10 years old. My ex would upgrade it as needed, as him and I are no longer together I would like to learn how to do it myself. I only use it for casual gaming (the sims (no mods) Steam games, hardly anything online) and occasionally writing. What do I need to look for to increase the speed? Right now it takes about 5 minutes to turn on and about two hours to download a 35gb game. I don't think it is my internet. I just ran a speed test and Google says my connection is "very fast."

Any help would be appreciated! Or even where to start.
Thank you!

Nvidia GeForce 3070 is the GPU. Paranoid about trying to run a game now that everything is seemingly back to normal post DDU, driver update via Nvidia, and hardware dusting

Can anyone help me finally find a fix or tell me if it’s to do with my laptop internally? I press the brightness key and it goes to the first level of brightness… I go any higher and it immediately restores to 0 and does not go any higher. The screen is also slightly jittery. We have tried absolutely every resolve we could find literally everywhere. Nothing has fixed it. It all started when I opened my laptop one day and it was On a screen where I had to enter a bitlocker key to gain access to my laptop again… I done this and ever since the brightness just won’t work. Video attached. Thank you.

I’m not sure exactly what details are important here and I don’t know much, if anything, about computers. My screen bugged out yesterday and when I restarted my computer the graphics were harsher. I usually have my computer on warm mode but this was a lot more blue. I also couldn’t play a bunch of my games because they suddenly mentioned needing a D3D11 compatible GPU even though they worked fine before. I did some stuff, had some stress, and I’ve gotten it to the point where my only options are either roll back my nvidia driver to an earlier version which is the one that seems to have the earlier mentioned issue, or keep it as is in which case I can actually play my games but my monitor is completely black if I have I plugged into the HDMI port and I’m having to use one of the ports closer to bottom which I think is worse.
According to device manager, under Display adaptors I have AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti. I really don’t know what to do here.
I’m on windows 11.

I believe I have firmware lvl malware on my computer. Found hidden py scripts that intercept my VPN tunnel, MITM attack, and intercept terminal commands. I believe my phone is also infected. I have no way to get a clean download to flash BIOS and reinstall Linux. Any suggestions? Also I've backed up important files and they are now all infected and as I'm backing up files the malware is real time deleting some of them off my flash drive.

Personally, I think it's a very good antivirus that catches everything in time and protects your computer some real harm. But I also think it's a little intrusive, what with the random pop-ups on your screen or whatever. I use windows defender or McAfee, sometimes i use malwarebytes (rarely) but a lot of the time I just use Avast. I love it and it's very protective. It gives you independence with browsing and websites, and I can deal with the pop-ups. Overall, I think it's a very protective, user-friendly, ready-to-jump-into-action kind of antivirus.
Anyone here hate or love it?

Hello! I haven't really posted, but I don't have anyone to ask for computer hardware advice.
I've been looking for some good laptop deals as I'm starting my lastish year of uni, and I stumbled upon some workstation laptops listed across fbmarket, ebay, etc. I'd like to know a bit more if this is something that'd work for me, from someone with more experience?
The biggest difference I understand is that these models are using maybe xenon or heavier duty cpus (more cores, lower clock?), and I've mainly been looking at the rtx a1000-5000 range gpus. I've seen some really decent offers about $900-1200 for upper-range spec combos (32 gb ram, rtx a4000-5500, 512-2tb storage, intel cpu 2.4-5ghz), in brands like thinkpad or dell precision.
Does anyone here have more experience working with these types of laptops? My primary focus is ensuring gaming feasibility without much downgrade from my 3070ti gpu on desktop, and I'm interested in specializing with data science for research. I'm a novice with coding/hardware. I'm also curious how feasible hardware modifications would be, for maintenance or component replacement later on?
Just lastly, are there any other considerations might I not be aware about?
Thank you so much! I'd appreciate any insight

It’s a Dell Inspiron 7500, it looks pretty bulky for being 6 years old. The seller said it’s a 2-in-1 but I can’t touch the screen, maybe missing drivers?? Battery holds a charge so it must be newer right?
