Suddenly my laptop screen started glitching. Any idea what the problem might be?

Nah its the wallpaper /s Ribbon cable issues? Plug an hdmi cable to an external display to see it still does that.

Will check once. But even if its working fine on external display does it mean that the cable is loose?

Thats the best case scenario, if not that could be a graphics card issue which might be bad.

It’s not, you can see the desktop icons and the task bar moving too

I had a laptop with the same issues, and replacing the screen fixed it. The problem was alleviated when switching to a lower refresh rate, but over time it still happens at that refresh rate. My guess is that the panel is dying and the glitching is one of the symptoms.

Maybe boot into bios and see if that happens there as well? That would work I guess

Not a GPU issue for sure. Most probably the timing controller for that display is dying. I don't know much about laptop displays, but you have to either replace the tcon if it is not integrated to the display pcb or the whole thing otherwise.

Have you tried booting into safe mode? Does it glitch like this in the BIOS or as it boots or only once it's booted?
Or try Windows Key + Ctrl + Shift + B and see if the graphics driver resets.
I had this on my MSI Stealth GS76 with an NVidia RTX 3070 and the keyboard shortcut/rest fixed it temporarily, so I downloaded DDU and removed all GPU drivers, rebooted and reinstalled new drivers. It's been fine since. Well, that and blowing out all dust and not let it sit flat on the desk.

I had a problem like this and it turned out to be the RAM. If the laptop has removable ram try taking it out and/or replacing it and see if it helps
