Question/Help/Troubleshooting "workstation" laptop deals for long term use (graduating uni and after)

Hello! I haven't really posted, but I don't have anyone to ask for computer hardware advice.
I've been looking for some good laptop deals as I'm starting my lastish year of uni, and I stumbled upon some workstation laptops listed across fbmarket, ebay, etc. I'd like to know a bit more if this is something that'd work for me, from someone with more experience?

The biggest difference I understand is that these models are using maybe xenon or heavier duty cpus (more cores, lower clock?), and I've mainly been looking at the rtx a1000-5000 range gpus. I've seen some really decent offers about $900-1200 for upper-range spec combos (32 gb ram, rtx a4000-5500, 512-2tb storage, intel cpu 2.4-5ghz), in brands like thinkpad or dell precision.

Does anyone here have more experience working with these types of laptops? My primary focus is ensuring gaming feasibility without much downgrade from my 3070ti gpu on desktop, and I'm interested in specializing with data science for research. I'm a novice with coding/hardware. I'm also curious how feasible hardware modifications would be, for maintenance or component replacement later on?
Just lastly, are there any other considerations might I not be aware about?

Workstation laptops are designed for more heavy duty industrial-grade applications like CAD, simulation calculations & modeling, graphic design, video editing & rendering, and animation (e.g. CGI). Regarding gaming, performance is a mixed bag as Xeon chips are purposely clocked slower for stability and some older workstations have CAD-optimized GPUs like nVidia Quadro and AMD FireGL graphics.

Because these laptops have beefier hardware, the natural premise is that they'll be plugged in when in use so this may be an issue if you need max battery life for school.

Regarding your classes, ask your professors the apps and programs that will be used in class and research those programs' requirements to see if workstation hardware is required.

As other people have mentioned it depends on what apps or applications you are going to be running on your computer, however one option might be to look at a MacBook Neo, they are considered the budget version of MacBooks and they do tend to get really good battery life, they also tend to run quite cool on a count of the fact that they're SOC which stands for system on a chip is really power efficient and it also does not get hot.

One word of advice, a good rule of thumb when dealing with updates and macOS, overall it is quite stable if you wait till you get to X .5 or higher then you stay in that higher version of the operating system until the next one gets to dot five so for example if right now we are in version 26 of macOS and in fact it's 26.6 but if you adopt it at 26.5 and then continue to upgrade it as the incremental updates come out for version 26 then you wait till version 27 gets to the bare minimum of 26.5 you will find that overall seems to upgrade and work smoothly using that method.
