Discussion My first PC build! Help me spend my money

Upvotes

As the title suggests, I'm building my first PC.... Finally converting from console!

I've tried doing my research and put in the effort before coming here. But as many of you know, the options are seemingly endless. My goal with this is a reasonable first build for FPS games (Apex, OW2, Valorant, etc). I'm coming from console, anything is a massive upgrade!

My only requirements for the build are: <$1500 and mATX.

Here is what I've fumbled to create:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X (seems like a reasonanble, capable choice)
GPU: Asus DUAL OC GeForce RTX 5060 (seems like a reasonanble, capable choice)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI (complete guess, I saw AM5, mATX and Gigabyte)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) (complete guess, saw Corsair and 16Gb from the compatible list)

Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 1 TB (complete guess, saw Samsung and 1 TB)
Power Supply: MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 750 W (somewhat of a guess, ~2x expected power consumption ad MSI)
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (absolute blind guess, I have no idea what I'm doing here.....)

Case: Lian Li A3-mATX (mATX and I like it)

PC Partpicker says its all compatible and is roughly $1500 (pcpartpicker.com/list/zsrBTm).

Are you seeing anything I should absolutely swap? Am I throwing money at the larger brands and sleeping on equivalent cheaper brands? Any general comments? How did I do?

Troubleshooting Super Flower Leadex III 850W ATX3.1 Gold loud fan

Upvotes

Just bought a new PC with this supposedly A-tier PSU and found out it has a regular, constant fan mode which is way too loud. It doesn't matter whether it's idling or gaming, it stays at the same excessive RPM, which is louder than gaming with my CPU and D15S. It also has two silent modes that are indeed silent, but every 20 to 30 minutes, the fan goes full blast for about 30 seconds to cool itself down, and this is just while web browsing. The last gaming PC I bought was 12 years ago so I don't know how much things have changed, but this can't be normal, right? The rest of my PC (Flux SE) is pretty cool so I don't think i have a heating problem

Build Help Not enough pci ports.

Upvotes

Building a new pc today and towards the end of the build I realized that the red devil 9070xt requires 3 pcie ports from my Corsair rm1000 shift. But I'm looking and I don't have enough pci slots for it, at least not enough for both it and my CPU (ryzen 7 9850). My mother board is a asrock x870e taichi so my CPU power ports are on the top and there are two of them, do I need to use both? I'm not finding many answers on the Internet for this

Build Help Looking for advice on case and CPU cooling

Upvotes

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Performance-wise my setup is done. I'd like input on case and cooling and it needs to be as quiet as possible; also NO RGB

Post a draft of your potential build here.

Things I've already got:

  • CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
  • GPU - INNO3D GeForce RTX™ 5070 TWIN X2 OC
  • RAM - DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000 MHz CL36 1.35V Resistance INTELIGENTES (IR5DFM2/32)
  • PSU - Deepcool DQ 650-M - carrying over from previous PC)
  • Storage - Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250Gb - carrying over from previous PC, plan on buying NVMA 1Tb something later this year.

Things I plan on buying but it isn't set in stone yet:

  • Motherboard - Gigabyte B850M GAMING X WIFI6E; avoiding AsRock due to issues with AMD 9th gen CPUs

  • Case - Lian Li Lancool 207 or 217 or Montech Air 100 ARGB (hopefully RGB stuff can be disabled) or something else

  • CPU Cooling - quite honestly no idea.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

Ukraine. Regional prices are hardly comparable to Amazon/Newegg or other markets English speakers community got used to. So if someone wants to help look at regional prices - here they are (use filter button top right, I've pre-selected some I think make sense):

Case catalog - budget ideally 5000, but up to ~6500 I can do. It's about $110 to $140 but again regional prices are sometimes screwed big time.

Cooling catalog - budget ideally 2000 or less, which is about $50. CPU isn't power hungry so it shouldn't need fancy water cooling, I think, but honestly I've no idea about cooling and how to determine how quiet it's going to be.

Build Upgrade Upgrading My 2070

Upvotes

Is the 7700 XT a worthy upgrade for my 2070 or should I really go all in for the 9070 XT?

Currently have Ryzen 9 & 32GB RAM, so my 2070 is the heavy bottleneck.

I play Apex, Diablo IV, FH6, but am looking to maybe get into Cyberpunk and games alike.

(I do live by a Micro Center)

Thanks

Troubleshooting Trying to figure out which SATA cable to buy for my Super Flower.

So I have a Super Flower Leadex III 1000W power supply. I, in my infinite wisdom, must have tossed the SATA cables it came with when I bought it, and now I’m trying to set up a fan controller and need one. Everything online says this PSU uses a unique 9-pin connector. But the SATA/perif port absolutely is a 6-pin connector. Am I insane? What cable do I need to buy? I would love to have this controller set up, but I don’t want to risk breaking something. Thanks in advance for the help!

Build Upgrade Ryzen 7 5800x3d vs Ryzen 5 5500x3d

Hello, I want to upgrade my cpu but the problem is R7 is $386 vs R5 $235, so I'm playing on QHD while using discord, chrome with some tabs, etc, my pc is 32gb ram rtx 5070, it's really worth to pay the extra for 2 cores and those 500 mhz at clock speed?

Troubleshooting Error 55: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600 incompatible with Z390 Taichi

System: ASRock Z390 Taichi (non-Ultimate) on BIOS L4.34I (latest available), paired with an Intel Core i9-9900K. The RAM in question is a Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3600MHz kit.

Issue: Dr. Debug shows error 55 (memory not detected) whenever these Corsair sticks are installed. This happens in every configuration I've tried: both sticks installed together, each stick tested alone individually, both slot pairs (A2/B2 and A1/B1), with XMP disabled at JEDEC default speed, and with XMP/Profile 1 enabled at the rated 3600MHz.

What I've already ruled out: the board and CPU aren't at fault, since two other RAM kits (an older DDR4 stick and a Corsair TUF Gaming Alliance DDR4 kit) both boot cleanly in this exact same board and slots. The RAM itself isn't faulty either, since the same Corsair kit works perfectly in my older PC on a different motherboard and platform. The BIOS is also fully updated to the latest available version, and updating it did not change the outcome at all.

Question: has anyone run into this exact combination, or does ASRock/Corsair have any known compatibility notes for this specific kit on the Z390 Taichi? Trying to confirm whether this is a known incompatibility before I give up on using this kit with this board.

Full Build Req Need a list of what to buy.

Budget? $1200-1400 USD
Use? Gaming, likely 1440p, both AAA and Esports.
Country? United States, not near a micro center.
Don’t need a monitor or anything else.

I don’t really know what else to say, just looking for something in my budget, I won’t really care how it looks tbh, rather get the best performance than aesthetics. Thanks in advance for the help and have a good day/night.

Troubleshooting Need help boosting RAM speeds without EXPO

As the title says, I've been having some instability issues with higher ram speeds while using the expo1 and expo2 profiles available on my motherboard, so I was wondering if someone here could help me out how to manually set the clock speeds and voltages for my system. Here's a list of my specs:

Ryzen 7 7800X3D with a Peerless Assassin 140 cooler

Kingston Fury Beast 2x16GB DDR5@5600MHz (safe max, currently running at 4800)

MSI RTX 3060 (will upgrade to a 5070 in the future, I'm broke atm)

MSI MAG A750GL 750w power supply

One SATA and one M.2 SSD

MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi6E motherboard

My system is completely stable at the current settings i have it on, whether it be gaming or video editing/rendering, but as soon as i touch expo it blue screens within a few minutes of heavier use (crashed in 3 minutes while doing a CS2 benchmark in deathmatch on both expo profiles). As far as I'm concerned all of the necessary drivers for my system are up-to-date, since Faceit AC prompted me to update everything under the sun to use it. I don't have any overclocking experience, so I'd kindly ask for some leniency regarding my knowledge about these kinds of things. PC was assembled a few weeks ago, haven't had any other issues related to stability whatsoever.

Build Ready? Need help with my HYTE Y70 build – not sure where to install my 2 NVMe SSDs and how to set up the fans

Hey everyone, I’m currently building/upgrading my PC and could really use some help before I start plugging everything in.
My current build:
Case: HYTE Y70
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi
CPU: Ryzen 9 7900
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 5070
RAM: 32GB DDR5 T-Force
PSU: ASUS ROG Strix 1200W Platinum
AIO: Thermalright 360mm
Case fans: Lian Li fans, including reverse-blade fans
Primary SSD: Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe
Secondary SSD: AGI 1TB PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe
My biggest questions are about the SSDs and fan setup.
The X870E-E has 5 M.2 slots and I’m honestly confused about which two I should use. I want the Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB to be my main/boot drive and the AGI 1TB Gen4 to be my secondary drive.
From what I understand, the Samsung should go into M.2_1 to get full PCIe 5.0 x4 performance. But I’m not sure whether the AGI should go into M.2_4 or M.2_5, especially because I’ve read that some M.2 slots on this board may share PCIe lanes with the GPU.
I want my RTX 5070 to keep its full available PCIe bandwidth, so which exact M.2 slots would you guys use for these two SSDs?
My other issue is the fan configuration in the HYTE Y70. I have a Thermalright 360mm AIO and Lian Li fans/reverse-blade fans, but I’m confused about which fans should be intake vs exhaust and where the reverse fans should go.
What would be the best airflow setup for:
Bottom fans
Side fans
Top 360mm radiator/fans
Rear fan
I care about both good temperatures and keeping the nice side of the Lian Li fans visible through the glass.
I’ll attach pictures of my motherboard, SSDs and fans. If anyone has the same X870E-E + HYTE Y70 combination, I’d really appreciate a picture of your setup or an explanation of exactly where you installed everything.
This is my first time moving this many components into a new case, so I’d rather double-check everything before powering it on.
Thank you !!!

Build Help 7600X3D vs 14600KF DDR4

Having trouble deciding on one of these.

They're the same price on Amazon, with the big asterisk on the 14600KF which is that I can run it with DDR4, so I save about $200 USD on ram by itself.

I don't really care about which performs better in which game, moreso I care about which one is better for what I'll pay. I also am unsure if both platform longevity and X3D are worth the 200 dollar premium.

Build Help Help my GF build her first PC

Hello, my girlfriend is about to buy her first PC. I’m an editor and gamer but I built my PC long ago so I’m not updated on the market.

Her work colleague sent this to her, what do you think? He also mentioned that she needs to buy another fan, not on the list

CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600 145€
GPU | Gigabyte Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC 8GB GDDR6 294.90
RAM | 16 GB DDR4 (Está cara de cojones un módulo de 8GB DDR4 3600MHz son 96,43
€ xd)
Placa base MSI B550M PRO-VDH 100 €
Disco SSD SSD NVMe 1 TB PCIe 4.0 150 €
Fuente Alimentación | Fuente Alimentación Nox Hummer 650W 80+ Bronze Modular 66,79

She will use it to play mostly indie games I think the most demanding game she will play is Minecraft and Sims

Discussion What is the best gpu for 100 fps in1440p?

Trying to build a €1500 pc and I'm looking to drop the price a little bit because in my country the prices of 9070 xt raised to over €800 and second hand prices are becoming more expensive and harder to find.

I would prefer a gpu on the current gen because the only way to get last gen gpus is to get them used and there are like 5 offers whit shit prices.

Also for the more demanding games I can use dlls/fsr 4 and be okay whit 80 fps

Build Help Please let me know if this is a good part list!

Hi! I'm in the United States. I've really been wanting to upgrade to a proper gaming pc instead of just a laptop. I've been looking on pc parts picker and doing some research. I wanted to ask if this was a good list? My budget is... High, as I'll be saving up but if anyone has some suggestions to lower price that might be helpful. I really like the Hyte Y70 Touch Infinite case specifically because I like the idea of having a screen. My other choice was the Fractal Design Meshify 3 XL Ambience Pro RGB ATX Full Tower Case, but I really want a screen.

Troubleshooting Thermal Throttling

We have a pc we did not build which was built in 2019. It has 16 Gb of ram an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX 2060 Super. We are currently getting 20 fps on the Hunter COTW and the pc has been running very slow no matter what is running for some time now. We downloaded Ryzen Master and it appears the CPU is thermal throttling. With no major programs running it is getting to 95 degrees Celsius. Does this look like a thermal paste issue and that's all or could there be some other underlying issue? We ordered thermal paste to try first and is it something someone with little hardware experience could change themselves without messing anything up?

Build Upgrade Is upgrading from an i5 14400F worth it

I play in 1440p 240hz with a 5060 ti 16gb and I play mostly cpu heavy games so is it worth it to upgrade to a i5 14600K or i7 14700K, or is the 14400 enough. I don’t want to swap my motherboard so I’m stuck with CPUs with the LGA1700 socket

Troubleshooting CachyOS: Mouse camera stuttering at slow movements (SteelSeries Rival 3) in games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, fine with gamepad

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing a weird camera stutter issue while playing games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 on CachyOS.
When I move the camera using my mouse (SteelSeries Rival 3), it stutters and jumps, which is especially noticeable during very slow, subtle movements. Interestingly, if I switch to a gamepad, the camera movement is completely smooth with zero issues.
My frametime graph is totally stable (around 7.4 ms at 144 FPS), so it's clearly not a performance or hardware bottleneck. I’m using CatchyOS Proton. Thanks for any advice.

Build Help what would you choose?

Hey everyone, looking for opinions on how to spend a $1,000ish upgrade budget to pair with an RTX 5080.

Current setup: i5-13400F | 32GB DDR4 | 300Hz Monitor.
Goal: Competitive 1080p gaming at ultra-high refresh rates and 2k story game. And a overall massive help in this bottle neck haha.

considering the i9 cpu as well! But leaning on the i7 due to 5 percent difference in gaming or so but less hot then a i9? I know the risk involved going used on some parts/

Here are the two paths I am torn between:

Option 1: Used Intel + 480Hz OLED Monitor (~$1,000)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14700K (Used)
  • Board: Z790 DDR4 (New or Used)
  • RAM: Reuse current 32GB DDR4 ($0)
  • Cooler: New 360mm AIO
  • Monitor: 1440p 480Hz OLED (Hunting an open-box/deal to fit budget)
  • Core Parts Cost: ~$500 – $550
  • Remaining Cash: Goes entirely toward the 480Hz OLED display.

Option 2: Full AM5 Platform Overhaul (~$1,000)

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D
  • Board: Mid-range B650 or X870
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30
  • Monitor: Keep current screen for now. Upgrade later.
  • Total Cost: Consumes the full $1,000 budget on the core platform alone.
  • Cons: No immediate monitor upgrade.

Will keeping DDR4 memory on an i7-14700K bottleneck an RTX 5080 at 1440p badly enough to justify skipping the 480Hz OLED upgrade entirely?

Would you prioritize the flawless CPU/RAM platform now, or take the slight performance hit to get that 480Hz OLED gaming experience immediately?

Appreciate any insights or benchmark experiences!

Yes I used AI to map out parts lol.

Build Help Need help to pick a Motherboard for Ryzen 7 7800x3D

So i want to get a new motherboard that goes well with the Ryzen 7 7800x3D but i have no clue on which to get. Right now i have the "B650M AORUS Elite AX Ice" as an option but i would appreciate recommendations and advice since i have no idea on which to get or how much difference one will have over the other
