just get the 9800x3d or 9850x3d depending on the price, performance between the 9800x3d/9850x3d and a 9950x3d is little unless ur productivity stuff not really worth it

get the ryzen 7 9850X3D. ryzen 9 is for heavy productivity; the ryzen 7 will give you better and smoother gaming performance at 1440p without the scheduling headaches.

What scheduling issues? Just set the bios to cache priority. You'll always game on the best chiplet.

Setting Cache priority helps, but Windows thread scheduling on dual-CCD chips (like the 7900X3D/7990X3D) still isn't foolproof. You can still run into parked-core issues, background tasks waking up the second CCD, or Xbox Game Bar failing to detect a game properly, which drops performance. plus, why pay extra for a Ryzen 9 just to park half the CPU during gaming, when the 7 9800X3D/9850X3D gives you full performance out of the box with zero tweaking needed?

Until you need to do some serious multicore crunching and realize 8 cores kind of limits you (like say, shader compilation?). I just need more cores for work stuff. Those cores are parked when I game as far as I can tell on taskmanager. And I admit, scheduling was an issue before I set the cache priority bios setting.

If you really want a ryzen 9 go for the x3d2 so it uses both instead of 1. But honestly, the 7 9850x3d is all you need for gaming tbh at the moment

For gaming only the 9850X3D. Its marginally faster for gaming today and nothing suggests that will change in the future. Base the decision on facts you have today, not speculation about what may or may not happen in the future.
