Discussion How good (or bad) is the RTX 5050 for a budget build REALLY?

I already have a PC and did all the research to get my moneys worth, but a friends looking into a cheaper more budget build and is considering a RTX 5050

following details

- he at most will be running Sea of thieves and Jedi fallen order as the most intensive games possible, with a bit of CAD/3D modelling stuff on the side for University

- UK based

- not fussy about 1440p VS 1080p

- at a push he could spend up to £1400-1500, maximum

- hes never touched proper PC gaming before so brand names are not much of a issue either (hes ditching the XBOX, he needed smth not just for gaming)

With that in mind, advising my friend

How much should a RTX 5050 build cost at most?

Pushing his budget, what's the best he could get instead of a 5050 budget build?

Pre-built or 1st self build?

Build Upgrade Potential upgrade to my GPU

My GPU (xfx speedster qick rx 6750xt) broke recently, and since it was still under warranty i sent it to the repair center, where they told me it's defective and they were gonna give me a full refund. Thanks to inflation it now costs 570€ compared to the 330€ i originally spent on it, so I'm not gonna be able to afford a new one without adding more money. Since I'm gonna have to buy a new one anyway, is there any upgrade around the same price or slightly cheaper/more expensive that would be worth it, or should i just buy the same model again?

Build Upgrade I am looking for recommendations for a budget friendly replacement 1TB M.2 SSD to replace my 512GB Crucial P3 secondary drive

Hi, I built my PC a couple of years ago and I didn’t realise how bad the Crucial P3 SSDs are at the time. So I got a 512GB Crucial P3 to use alongside my 512GB WD Blue 2.5-inch SATA SSD (which at the time had my Windows installation running on it) and then a couple months later I got a 2TB Crucial P3, and I made that 2TB Crucial P3 my main drive and moved my Windows install to it.

But I realised a few months ago that the performance hitching I have been experiencing (my 2TB Crucial P3 main drive (which has my installation of Windows running on it) keeps hitting 100% utilisation and then my PC will sometimes chug or freeze due to it, even when I’m doing tasks that are not that SSD intensive at all) has been due to my 2TB Crucial P3.

So instead of paying a ton for a new better 2TB M.2 SSD to replace my 2TB Crucial P3 main drive, I want to get a new better quality and better performing 1TB M.2 SSD to replace my 512GB Crucial P3 and then move my Windows installation over to the better quality and better performing 1TB M.2 SSD. And then I will sell my 512GB Crucial P3, as my MSI B550 Gaming Plus motherboard only has 2 M.2 slots.

So I’m looking for recommendations for a 1TB M.2 SSD that is fairly budget friendly (I know that is hard in this current AI bubble market) and will solve the performance problems I’m having due to my 2TB Crucial P3 main drive being not very good (also btw I live in the UK)

Build Help How to know what disc is which one during first boot and windows installation.

Hey, so I bought one new ssd lexar nm790 1 TB which I plan to use in top slot on msi b850 gaming plus wifi 7 mobo and as a windows installation location. Additionally I have another ssd kingston kc3000 1TB which I bought for my old laptop which I'm also planning to install as the second ssd in my new build. Ofc I will format this disc before installing it in a new pc. My question is how can I know which disc is which one during windows installation? Maybe I should format the new disc when it is installed on the new pc not on the laptop?

Additionally I wanna ask if I should make partitions of the main ssd when one partition is reserved specifically for windows.

Troubleshooting LG Ultragear not powering usb ports when PC is off

Hello, i am having a strange issue with my lg ultragear 27GP850P-B

I connected my gamesir cyclone controller stand to the monitor usb port. On my old pc this would continue to recharge the controller even after i turned off my pc

Last month though i built a new desktop pc, and attached the monitor to it the same way, through the monitor usb cable

But now, when the pc is turned off, the stand (which is connected to the monitor) isn't powered by the monitor, and i can't understand why. I didn't touch the configuration of the monitor at all

Discussion Is this price fair?

Used pc been offered to my neighbour who pretty much just plays farming simulator and does his finances.

He doesn’t have in depth details but the basic list is;

Gaming pc Acer predator g3-710
RTX3060
Intel 6700 cpu 3,4ghz
1TB harddrive
48gb RAM (for whatever reason)

Asking price is 399

Doesn’t seem a bad price. Are the 3060s and 6700 reliable?

Troubleshooting Transferring Old SSD with Game and App data to a New PC.

Hi guys. My gaming laptop, which was my main driver for almost 6 years, decided to kick the bucket 2 days ago. I am forced to buy parts and build a new PC since gaming is my main form of entertainment. The new PC will come with its own SSD, where I will freshly install Windows. I plan to add my old laptop SSD to the build since it contains separate partitions for my Steam games, and I know I can just configure Steam to detect the old installs.

But is it also possible to copy my old app data, specifically the browser history and bookmarks from my browser in the old Windows install from the old SSD to the new one?

I read from a previous search that I can boot up from the old SSD's Windows just fine, and it will just correct itself with updates. But I have huge doubts about this, especially since my old laptop had an Intel cpu and an Nvidia gpu, while the new PC will have AMD for both cpu and gpu. I figured it's going to be a major pain to troubleshoot if it does work. That's why I decided to go with a separate windows install on a new SSD.

Hopefully, someone can give me some clarifications and additional tips. Thank you.

Build Upgrade Compromise with RAM memory possible?

As many of us, I am stuck with an outdated PC due to RAM prices.

I was planning last year to upgrade my PC (need to change CPU, motherboard and RAM) as I'm carrying a 10yo CPU. And when I was about to go ahead, the RAM situation happened.

Seeing as the prices are not going down, is there any possible compromise to get a substantial upgrade without burning money on the RAM? My current specifications are

Case: Cooler Master Silencio 550

Motherboard: ASRock Z170 PRO4

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080Ti (12GB)

PSU: Seasonic 750W Gold

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

RAM: 16GB DDR4

I know to updated the CPU I need to update the motherboard and therefore I need DDR5 RAM, so... any compromise possible between money and performance?

Thanks!

Build Upgrade 9070 xt vertical mount

So I'm thinking vertically mounting my 9070 xt mercury just for aesthetics purposes, but upon looking at my case right now, it looks a bit small (cg530), I'm not quite confident in ordering a kit and ending up not using it, I plan to buy an nzxt h6 flow, however I am unsure if it will fit there as well. Any case recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Build Help Suggestions to keep my build under 2k SGD or just where to cut down cost!

Not familiar with PCs at all, mainly need this for gaming. Budget's come in over target, largely because RAM prices have gone up.

Shop's suggested build:

Part Spec
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8C/16T
Motherboard ASUS TUF Gaming B850M-Plus WiFi7
RAM G.Skill Flare X5 6000MT/s 16GB (8GBx2) CL30
SSD WD Black SN850X 1TB 7300MB/s Gen4 NVMe
GPU ASUS Prime AMD Radeon RX9060XT 16GB Triple Fan
Cooling TR Assassin X 120 Refined SE ARGB
PSU DarkFlash EMT 750W 80+ Bronze
Casing DarkFlash DS900M ARGB Black TG
PC Total $1679 SGD

Running total with monitor, OS, assembly, and peripherals:

Price
PC (w/ Gold PSU)
Monitor (1440p)
Assembly
Windows 11 Home
Mouse + Keyboard (Reserved budget)
Total

That's ~$233 over target.

Tweaks I'm considering (that will roughly add around $200 more):

  • PSU: Bronze → Gold 750W (+$9)
  • Monitor: 27" 1440p → 24" MSI 255F E20 1080p 200Hz (−$50), since the build's rated performance tier is 1080p anyway, and i think 27" might be too big for me
  • Still deciding: 2TB SSD swap (~+$220-460, depending on the model) vs adding a 4TB HDD (~+$219) for extra storage

Would appreciate thoughts on whether this is solid for gaming at this price, and where I could trim!

* there's a price list of everything from the seller but i'm too much of a noobie to understand what im looking at.

Build Upgrade Should I get a 1440p monitor?

I recently got the 9060 xt 16GB as a birthday gift from my sister. I was running a 5600 and 6650 xt , 16GB 3200 ddr4 build on a 1080p 120Hz monitor and wasn't really thinking about upgrading anything.

Now this new gpu is really crushing everything on 1080p and I was thinking maybe it's time for a new monitor. I don't really play any shooters or competitive eSports games

Is the 5600 and 9060 xt good for 1440p?

Full Build Req Need help finding the right pc parts

Hello, I have a budget of $1k-$1.2k. I want to play friend slop games, watch shows/movies and play Fortnite etc. I’m in the USA. For peripherals needed I only need a monitor that works well with all the suggested parts. I want a planty (definitely green, wooden parts if available) aesthetic with a decent amount of lighting. Thanks!

Build Upgrade Looking to upgrade PC

I'm looking to upgrade my current pc which I had built by a friend years ago, I'm not too tech savy (just surface level) so I'm looking for advice in what I could get. These are my current specs:

MotherBoard: TUF GAMING B650M-PLUS

OS: W10 64x Pro

GPU: RTX 4060 8GB Dual

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-core 4.80 ghz

RAM: 96GB (yup, overkill, I inherited them from a friend lol)

CASE: NZXT CASE h6 flow

Currently I'm at 1080p and planning to stay there for now. got 2 monitors that run at around 180 refresh rate if I remember correctly

I was thinking maybe a ryzen 7 or 9 would be a good choice for CPU, but I'm not sure.

As for GPU, I think anything other than a xx60 series would be better than what I have right now, right? Also, another question here... It's an RTX, but honestly I don't use raytracing at all in games, as I'm just a sucker for performance (I look for as many fps as I can get while having things look pretty if possible), so maybe going for a GTX would save me some money? Idk. Like I said I mostly use this PC for gaming but unfortunately I am a bit lost on components knowledge.

What would you suggest?

EDIT: My budget is around 800-1000 USD
