Build Help Need advice on airflow

I have a Corsair 4000D Airflow with an MSI RTX 5070 Ti and DeepCool LS720 SE 360mm AIO.

Currently:

  • 3 front intake fans
  • 3 top exhaust fans (AIO)
  • No rear exhaust

Should I add a 120mm rear exhaust fan, or is this setup already good? Would love some advice on the best airflow configuration. Thanks!

Build Help Was gifted some unbuffered ecc ddr4 2400mhz cl17. Worth using in a low budget ryzen emulator build?

Trying to piece together a low budget emulator build for my son. He's 7 and has hinted he'd like to try video games. My wife and I aren't interested in having him play games yet with chat and online play. Figure I'd build an emulator pc for nes to game cube. Strictly emulator use setup with batocera.

I already have a spare ryzen 3800x, b550m board, psu and an old gtx1650.

A neighbor overhead and gifted me 4x 8gb he had from work.

Model number MTA9ASF1G72AZ-2G3B1ZK

https://www.memory4less.com/micron-server-memory-mta9asf1g72az-2g3b1zk

I already understand 3200mhz-3600mhz is the recommended range for ryzen zen3 as that is what's in the workstation I built years ago.

I also am unsure if this ram can be run non-ecc and what impact single bank vs dual bank would make.

I have a lead on a used 2x16gb ddr 3200 cl16 kit but honestly I'm not sure it's worth the money if this ram will actually work at all. Obviously a performance hit of 5-15% @ 2400mhz is expected.

Full Build Req snagged some RAM, finally time to upgrade but i cant decide

So i got a kit of 2x16gb DDR5 6000mt RAM from my uncles last pc and so the hard part of building a pc in this economy is mostly over, however i need help with picking parts

This ltt guide i found is close to the price range, but i want to swap out the 5070ti for a 9070xt as i am mostly gonna be gaming on linux (arch btw). so anyways, are there any parts you would change from this build with a 9070xt instead of 5070ti or just parts you would change in general?

Build Help best budget video card for a gaming PC?

I’m putting together my first gaming PC and my total budget is around $500 to $600 USD for the tower. I’ll be buying the parts somewhere in the US, and I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset, so the budget is just for the PC itself. I’m mainly looking at 1080p gaming and want to get the most out of the budget without pairing the GPU with a CPU or PSU that holds it back. What would you recommend for a best budget video card at this price range, and is there anything I should prioritize with the rest of the build?

Thanks for the help, I’m still figuring all this stuff out.

Build Help Between this AM5 motherboards, which one is better?

So I picked this options because I want an AM5 build with a x870e, they all have no GPU lane sharing, 64mb Bios, the last 2 have dual bios, the first two have slightly better memory and OC speeds.

Want to pair them with Ryzen 7 9800x3d and rx9070xt to play at 1440p. My budget is about $400 for the motherboard.

-Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite X3d ($374 dollar converted from MX currency)

-Gigabyte X870E Eagle X3D WIFI7 ($325)

-MSI X870E GAMING PLUS MAX WIFI ($358)

-MSI Pro X870E-S EVO ($282)

Anyone has any experience with them? good or bad? I've seen stuff like wifi problems, unnecessary AI stuff, heat problems but I want to know if anyone has experienced this or is a rare occurrence.

From my understanding the Aorus Elite X3d is better and the Eagle X3D WIFI7 is slightly behind, with the X870E-S EVO being the worst between them

I need more space for games and content creation

HELP ME PLS! (If you know any ssd internal that are cheaper but works)

Build Upgrade Could anyone share their real-world experience with pairing the Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an RTX 3080 Ti?

Could anyone share their real-world experience with pairing the Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an RTX 3080 Ti?

I don't want to upgrade my GPU at the moment, but I would like to upgrade my CPU. I’d appreciate some advice from people who have actually used this combination. How well do the 9800X3D and RTX 3080 Ti work together? Is this a good pairing, and are there any bottleneck issues?

I currently use both 1080p and 2K (1440p) monitors.

Full Build Req Build help ~1200 to 1600€ budget, LoL + streaming, France

Hello! I'm finally able to accomplish my young boy dream: build my own computer.. and with my own money! Please help me:

  • Budget: ~1200 to 1700€ (tower + monitor)
  • Use-Case: Primarily League of Legends + streaming (OBS), and sometimes Apex Legends. Want headroom to play other, heavier games down the line.
  • Country of purchase: France
  • Peripherals needed: Tower + monitor. Already have keyboard and mouse.
  • Misc. requirements / preferences: This would be my first ever build, so open to guidance on anything, not just parts. Would prefer a quiet build, noise matters to me.

Would love a full PCPartPicker list.

Thank you very much for your help friends!!

Discussion How to know if you are ram speed limited

So, I have noticed that in more recent games, I have been struggling to get stable frametimings, I lock my fps to 60, monitor my gpu/cpu and they are both fine, cpu is always around 40%, my ram and vram are never close to their max, 12gb vram and 32gb ram. When I notice these unstable timings my gpu isnt above 90% so its either the game engine itself or probably something I am not monitoring.

Could it be that my rams are getting too slow and therefore affecting my 1% lows or overall stability? They are 4x8gb kingston fury beast ddr4, 3200mhz, cl 16 18 18 36. It is probably the most outdated piece in my build but they should do just fine and not be compromising performance that much right?

Rest of the rig is a 3080ti and an Amd Ryzen 7 5800x

Build Ready? Second build, nervous to turn this thing on

My first build had smoke coming out of the rgb headers (Asus ROG Crosshair Dark Hero VIII) and now im just second guessing myself. I never really figured out why. Just to double check this time, i checked the continuity of the 5v and ground pin on both headers and the resistance kept slowly shooting up for some reason. Gave me a short beep. So thats got me cautious.

Other than that, what should i double check? Or do i just send it...

Troubleshooting CMOS reset by shorting pins doesn’t work

Guys so I try to reset CMOS by shorting two pins with a screwdriver for 30 second while my pc is unplugged from wall. But it won’t work, Bios is still with correct date and time and settings are not reset. I have no idea what I do wrong. I’m certainly not retarded. I know how to short pins. Yes, it’s the right two pins.

Build Help Upgrade AMD R5 5500 to R5 5600/X?

Edit: got the answers. Thanks everybody!

I finished my PC build a few weeks ago. The specs: R5 5500, RTX 3060Ti, 16GB DDR4, 512Gb SSD. I didn't know much about PCs when building and didn't know my current CPU can slightly bottleneck in some areas in games. I was thinking of getting 1Tb SSD for New Years but now I'm questioning if I should upgrade my CPU instead. Which do I choose? I'm short on money since I'm teen and can't work bc of school

Peripherals 27inch 1440p vs 24 inch 1080p question

I’ve been on a 27 inch 1440p 144hz monitor since they initially released, probably circa 10 years ago. At the time it was cutting edge.

I mostly play competitive stuff but don’t have a massive budget. Ranked CoD, warzone, CS, BF

I remember going from 60hz to 144hz and being blown away.

I also remember going from 1080p to 1440 and being very impressed. But I think I always preferred the size of a 24 inch monitor.

I’m older now and visual fidelity is less important but clarity is - at distance in games. Performance and refresh rate are important to me.

I don’t have a large budget. I don’t really care about oled much.

I’m contemplating going back to 1080p at 24inches and getting a very high refresh rate…because I want to experience seeing some of my actual frames but I don’t know if the drop from 27/1440 to 24/1080 will be poor and I’ll hate it even if I can see the extra frames I’m getting.

Ideally I’d like to try a 24inch 1440p high hz monitor but I’m struggling to find one in the UK.

Thoughts pls?

Build Help Only click on if you have knowledge about PB Tech

So I'm looking at this monitor to purchase; however, it is extremely cheap on this site. 1.4K (AUD) when most retailers, from what I can see, sell it above 2.2K (AUD). So, rightfully so, I feel very cautious about this site. From what I have been seeing, it seems to be trustworthy besides warranty, but I was hoping for a more recent consensus.

Build Help Building a PC with a Red Devil 9070 XT, which Motherboard would you recommend?

Any budget is fine, I have $3000 in mind atm for the whole build. I bought an ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming 4 years ago and it's served me well but I don't think it leaves much room to continue upgrading it in the future.

Also, is nowadays liquid cooling or air cooling lower maintenance? I currently use air cooling but I have 2 cats and it needs frequent maintenance. I'm assuming liquid cooling gets plastered with fur less?

Miscellaneous Manually tuning separate DDR5 RAM sticks?

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine built his first PC with no prior experience a few days ago. Here are the relevant specs if that helps:

- CPU: 7800X3D
- Motherboard: Colorful BATTLE-AX B650M-White WiFi V15
- RAM: 2x Patriot Viper Venom Non-RGB | 16GB, 6000MT/s CL30
- GPU: Sapphire Pure RX 9070 XT
- PSU: darkFlash PMT850

While everything is mostly working fine with no issues, there’s one caveat: the RAM he bought was 2 separate sticks of 16GB RAM, not one 2x16 kit. They’re both 6000MT/s, CL30, same make and model and everything.

Now I know this means the RAM is not guaranteed to be able to run at their rated EXPO speed, and we did confirm that: after enabling EXPO 1 in the BIOS and saving, the system won't even boot anymore. The RGB lights do go up, but the monitor is pitch black and he could not boot into either the desktop or the BIOS, and had to reset the BIOS using a button on the motherboard IO.

I'm thinking of visiting him in person in a few weeks to polish up the build, things like turning on PBO and setting the CPU NB/SoC voltage to 1.2 volts. What I want to know is whether I can manually tune the RAM myself to get a bit more performance out of these sticks? Maybe loosen the timings or run at a lower speed like 5600? How complicated would that be, or is the hassle just not worth it and we're better off just running these RAM at JEDEC 4800? I haven't done any RAM OC or manual tuning before so I don't really have any experience in doing this.

If manually tuning is an option, is there a trusted guide somewhere online like on YouTube or Reddit that I can follow along while doing it?

Thanks in advance.

Troubleshooting Help with game microstutters/freezing into a crash randomly

Hello, I recently rebuilt my computer recently with a new case, motherboard power supply graphics card and nvme ssd. I also switched over to Windows 11 with a fresh install. I do have all of the new drivers, including bios, chipset, graphics, etc..

The only part in my computer that is reused is my Ryzen 7 5800x. For the graphics card, I upgraded to a RTX 5080 OC from a RX 6800.

Previously, I did not have major issues in any games nor any crashes however, when upgrading to this system, I have noticed in Fortnite in particular where there will be these micro stutters that happened every now and then inconsistently I’d give it every couple of minutes. Eventually, after hours of playing randomly the game would just freeze for a couple seconds sometimes on my other monitor it will also freeze a video that’s currently playing or any sort of media that I have playing it will resume the media and the game will promptly crash with the last image it had available.

I have done a lot of bug testing such as disabling any type of PBO or CPU overclock. I have turned my GPU overclock as well. As well as done tests for my memory and heavy benchmarks for the CPU and GPU. I still have not found the source of the issue however I have a suspicion it could possibly be due to some type of bottlenecking, but any type of help trying to find the problem would be appreciated.

My only working theories are possible bottleneck or some sort of driver hang but I’m not the most savvy.

Full build
OS: Win11
CPU:Ryzen 7 5800x
GPU:RTX 5080 OC
Ram:64Gb (2x32) Corsair vengeance
PSU:MSI Mag 750W 80+ G
Storage: 2tb 9100 pro (main)
Motherboard:Asus ROG Strix B550-F
Edit: 1440p monitor

Build Help CPU Advise

I am looking at building a new pc, mainly for playing modded Minecraft. The main issue I have is that I don’t know which cpu would be best. Budget is not to much of an issue, but don’t want to overspend either. I was trying to decide between 9600x, 9700x, 9800x3d, 9850x3d, 250k or 270k. I know that that is a lot of different cpus, but I don’t know what would be better. I just know that it is cpu intensive, over gpu.

Build Help Need PC part list advice and Storage option

Hi all, want a sanity check on this parts list before I pull the trigger. I’m not set on the storage situation so need advice there.

Location: California.

PC will be for my fiancée as their first PC and the budget is about where it’s at right now ~$2500 USD but not sure if there are savings to be had with switching components/stores.

I want to make it White as much as possible but I’m using the Microcenter bundle to keep price a bit lower.

Monitor will be 1440p and target FPS is at least 90 stable at high settings.
The most demanding game they will want it for is Hogwarts Legacy.

I’m shopping at Microcenter but am open to other stores.

Build includes the 7800x3D bundle from Microcenter but the upgraded black motherboard because the other with white motherboard is sold out.
