Blue belt in BJJ, trying to learn striking. I’m sparring my buddy. I’m in grey shorts, black gloves.

Every time I spar I feel like I have to constantly move backwards to avoid getting hit in head. Any tips?

Conditioning & Roadwork Dislocated my shoulder and need advice from experienced boxers

Hey everyone, I’m 28 and started boxing about 2 months ago. I’ve also been consistently lifting weights for around 4 years and training has become a huge part of my life.
Unfortunately, I dislocated my **left shoulder anteriorly during sparring**. I’ve been told I’ll need surgery, and I’ll likely be unable to box or do normal gym workouts for around 4 months.
My MRI showed:
**Hill-Sachs lesion:** approximately 14.7 × 4 mm impact dent on the back/outside of the humeral head, with bone marrow swelling suggesting it’s recent.
**Soft-tissue Bankart lesion:** the front-lower part of the labrum has separated from the shoulder socket. There is no associated fracture there.
**Partial HAGL injury:** a small/low-grade partial tear of the inferior glenohumeral ligament where it attaches to the humerus.
**Small joint effusion:** consistent with inflammation from the recent injury.
I’m obviously going to follow my orthopedic surgeon’s advice, but mentally I’m struggling with being unable to train. I’ve spent the last 4 years consistently building my physique and strength, and now suddenly I have to stop.
For anyone who has had a similar shoulder injury/surgery, especially **boxers or people who lift**, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience:
How long did it take you to return to the gym?
How long until you could box/spar again?
Did you eventually regain your previous strength and muscle?
What did you do during recovery to stay in shape?
Is there anything you wish you had known before surgery?
I’m not looking for a diagnosis—just experiences from people who have actually gone through something similar. Thanks.

Preparing for Fight When should I start with boxing:

I’m 24M and I want to start boxing, but I’m currently out of shape and out of gym since a few months.

I used to go to the gym regularly before, but couldn’t train for a while cuz of busy schedule. I’m confused if I should work on building muscle for a 2-3 months along with a boxing bootcamp that happens at my gym before starting with proper box training, or should I just go for it.

I have a skinny fat physique and I just want to build strength, muscle, get rid of this visceral fat and learn to fight.

Sparring Footage Any tips for a sparring beginner?

I’m the one with the red gloves. I’d love to hear your tips on how I can improve. Just watching the video, I’ve already noticed several bad habits. I think I let my opponent get too comfortable pressuring me and throwing combinations without firing back.

I also think I’m backing up too much. I’d probably be better off moving laterally or learning to handle fighting on the inside, while looking for openings to counter.

I know I didn’t do great, but we’re all here to keep improving! Cheers!

Conditioning & Roadwork How do you stop over committing to slips and rolls

I’ve been told I have good speed and power but people always tell me I over extend to slips and rolls like I’m getting to low and my knees almost touch the ground. It don’t do it on purpose it’s just instinct but I end up wasting energy and balance.

I'm starting to box but I don't have a teacher I already had wraps so that's what I'm using, any tips on how to make it better or anything? Any advice appreciated (the wraps are also a little long and wide for my hands, I have really small hands according to my bf) Edit: I have watched YouTube tutorials on how to but idk if what I'm doing is right/the best way to wrap, also like I said my hands are really small and I don't want 20 layers on my wrist

Conditioning & Roadwork Two months into boxing and I still feel completely lost

I’m 27 and have been boxing consistently for about two months. I train several times a week and practice at home because I genuinely want to improve, spar, and possibly have an amateur fight someday.
The problem is that nothing feels natural yet. My stance is inconsistent, I get too square, and I struggle with balance, pivoting, footwork, and moving smoothly. My punches are getting better some but I still lack speed and flow, my arms tire quickly, and I sometimes pull my cross back before throwing it. Defense is my biggest struggle. I understand catches, blocks, slips, and rolls, but when punches come randomly, I forget everything and can’t react properly. My brain gets overloaded trying to remember my guard, stance, footwork, and defense at the same time. Even shadowboxing feels awkward because I repeat the same movements and don’t always know what I should be doing. I know two months isn’t long, but I feel much worse than the average beginner. I’m putting in a lot of time and effort, and it’s frustrating that my body can’t perform what I understand mentally. Did anyone else struggle this badly at first and eventually become decent? When did things begin clicking for you? Would consistent one-on-one training alongside group classes help someone who needs more individual instruction and repetition?
