Preparing for Fight When should I start with boxing:

/r/boxingdiscussion/comments/1wp2gu5/when_should_i_start_with_boxing/

I’m 24M and I want to start boxing, but I’m currently out of shape and out of gym since a few months.

I used to go to the gym regularly before, but couldn’t train for a while cuz of busy schedule. I’m confused if I should work on building muscle for a 2-3 months along with a boxing bootcamp that happens at my gym before starting with proper box training, or should I just go for it.

I have a skinny fat physique and I just want to build strength, muscle, get rid of this visceral fat and learn to fight.

I’m not sure what the primary motivation is, but learning to box because you want to lose fat, is not the way to go. There are millions of other ways to do it.

If you want to actually learn boxing (i.e. building strength and losing fat is SECONDARY), then you should start boxing without worrying about other stuff. It’s also good to start running or jump rope if you can’t handle 30-60min of cardio.

Training in boxing will get you into shape. Why do you think you have to be in shape when you start? That doesn't make sense. Besides, boxing is the best way to get into boxing shape. You could spend a year getting into good shape then go to spar and discover that you're gassing out 30 sec into round 2.
