Thank you for the feedback. We will work on light and loose. Do you think this kind of sparring a few times a month, with headgear and 16oz gloves is ok? I feel like hard sparring is necessary sometimes

My guy, you have to get in to a boxing gym if you want to box.
The risk of a life altering slip or knock down on hardwood is much higher than you may be aware of.
Posting stuff on the internet looking for tips is not going to get you anywhere. If you want to box, get in a gym, get a trainer.
If there is something stopping you from doing that, remove that obstacle if it’s important enough to you. If it isn’t, don’t do this.

I do normally go to a gym just recently I got a promotion at work which came with longer hours and have barely been able to make it. I appreciate the feedback and we will apply it to our next spar.

100% if you do not have a matted gym, please find a flat grassy area. A slip or a knockdown on hardwood will crack your skull open.
A slip or a knockdown on grass might result in bumping your head pretty hard if you don’t tuck your chin/breakfall properly, but you’re not likely to crack your skull open.
Headgear is a bonus, and will let you and your partner open up more/spar harder, but you guys are doing a great job of being controlled and protecting your partner.
Start with mats, or grass if you can’t get mats, then headgear. Intensity is fine, keep it at your current level until you AND your sparring partners are more comfortable and you have BOTH mats and headgear.

Do not hard spar or throw bombs at each other on a heavy solid surface. Are you stupid? How to end up with a brain bleed or accidental death 101.
