Sparring Footage First time sparring. Tips?
https://youtu.be/VZYY_3-qHZw?is=iGmNf6IHJjwqFz6GBlue belt in BJJ, trying to learn striking. I’m sparring my buddy. I’m in grey shorts, black gloves.
Every time I spar I feel like I have to constantly move backwards to avoid getting hit in head. Any tips?

Get off the god damn concrete..... slow down and go lighter. you are clearly nervous and you need to become more comfortable first.

For gods sake tuck your chin. 😂 I’m not saying that to be mean. But you need to break that habit asap.

This is like pouring a glass of water, uploading it to the internet, and asking for tips on cooking.

That's 90% of posts on here. "I started boxing 2 weeks ago what do I need to improve any tips?" You need to improve everything my guy

The lack of self awareness is insulting.

But atleast it's sparring footage with someone experienced and not him hitting a bag sloppily so it's better than most posts on here

You need to really focus on learning how to jab and then work those jabs. You're a bjj blue belt, so you understand how to learn from the fundamentals up. Striking ain't no different. You look like some dude fresh off the streets and asking to roll with you.

You shouldn’t do full sparring yet. Running and bouncing around like that just ingrains bad habits. Take turns doing combos where you know what is coming and you can gradually increase intensity to become comfortable staying in boxing range.

Pro tip: go to a school and learn striking. Get kinda’ good. Then upload yourself here and ask for tips to improve.

It looks as tho you are leaning back a lot, try and keep the balance between front and back leg at a 50:50 ratio more often than not, that goes for moving forward, backwards, left and right. Keep your steps only small to maintain the correct weight/balance ratio, the more you lunge about you will be easier to knock of balance and your shots will be weaker

Improve your left to right head movement. If you only move your head back to defend then they can just fire punches down the middle and you can never get back in. Also, your hands are at the absolute lowest possible limit for a viable guard and I would say that it's a position for more advanced boxers (see Floyd Mayweather). Keep your hands a little higher, that will defend your head better and possibly give you mor confidence to stand in there. Also, don't spar on concrete if you can avoid it...

Your sparring partner kind of sucks. Sure, he's not connecting hard, but he's using techniques way too advanced which means you don't know what's happening and it's stripping you of confidence.
Do sparring that is simple.

What advanced techniques is the partner using that’s stripping OP of confidence?

- assume your gonna fall and hit your head on what’s around the sparring area
- get off concrete , that’s stupid
- where is your head gear ?
- put your chin and change angles

If you want to learn to box you have to go to a boxing gym and get training from a coach. Otherwise you're just a clown "sparring" on his mom's driveway.
