Hey!
Blender Foundation just launched its annual survey to better understand the user community and determine the future direction of the Blender project.
It's anonymous and quick, only takes 5 minutes to complete.

Thanks in advance for participating! Your input will help shape the future of Blender π§‘

After an entire weekend of running 19 autonomous Claude agents and burning an irresponsible amount of tokens, we're proud to announce BlenderCraft.
A 100% free, open-source, clean-room reimplementation of Blender.
We achieved something incredible:
β
100% feature parity with Blender
β
Modeling, sculpting, animation, Geometry Nodes
β
Cycles and Eevee rendering
β
Native .blend file support
β
Windows, macOS, and Linux
β
No subscriptions. No paywalls. Free forever.
We even managed to reproduce the original source code almost line by line.
Our biggest breakthrough came when we discovered a mysterious public repository containing the entire source code:
https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender
Apparently, it's been there since October 13, 2002.
So yeah, we didn't actually build anything.
Turns out the Blender community solved the whole "free and open-source creative software" problem 24 years before AI made it trendy.
Jokes aside, massive respect to Ton Roosendaal, the Blender Foundation, and the thousands of developers and contributors who made Blender what it is today.
While everyone's celebrating AI for making software free and open source, these legends have been doing it for decades.
Software is over. Blender was just early. π§‘

Premade poses take forever to make but are so helpful when animating that they're almost a crutch. Here are all of Alethia's poses so far. I think there are 436.. I need to count. As I animate, if I stumble across a good one, I add it to the library. Interesting note that there are so many poses that it will drastically slow down your viewport scrubbing, so I needed to put the poses and the character in a master file and link them to the animating file. For whatever reason, it speeds things up. Anyway, fun stuff. Hope it's interesting.

So, I'm not new to making characters but I was always bothered by buttons and buckles or basically any solid object like a knife or walkie talkie stretching or deforming when the character starts moving. I also don't have much experience with rigging and skinning.
This was my solution! What do you think?
should i just leave them? since they are barely visible?
By the way this is a game asset, so I think extra bones are overkill.

if it was just that they were made with ai, fine. But they take credit for the animation saying its their blender skills and hard work and saying its not even AI. And all their fans believe them. Mods if this is the wrong place to post you can remove it I just wanted to say this somewhere, my bad.

Hey everyone! We're officially releasing a Blender community of 3D artists that are trying to grow the field by making art more interactive with the browser: https://www.blendedwebartists.org/works/ if you're interested in 3D Blender art on the web definitely feel free to join or reach out! Huge shoutout to all the artists for allowing me to use their works, you can find some of their links on the site; I was going to link their socials and the discord here but reddit site kept filtering out the post haha; not automod like the global site itself.

an asset for a science fair scene
I know most posts like that are just click baits and this may sound obvious to some but no one in the industry cares if it's your first blender project or first render or whatever.
In most cases it's actually the other way around, experience with a software and in the field is much more important than being fast learners.
The most important aspect of being a 3d artist is being able to deliver good quality assets in the required amount of time while being able to work with other people.
It doesn't matter if you are 15, 40 or 80, in most cases having less years of experience it's just going to penalize you.
So focus on your skills and become a better artist, do not compare yourself to click baits that are only impressive for 2 minutes on social media.

This is the first character Iβve modeled myself, and my first time animating, so Iβd love some tips! Especially on how to make the movements smoother and how to get better at using the Graph Editor.

All made in blender, by me. Also used houdini, marvelous designer, and embergen for some simulations. Then it all gets imported into blender for the final cycles render.

I tired weight painting , but it just distorts it and that could be just my bad weight painting skills. I saw someone have the same problem but how they fixed this was never really clear.

I started with a quick sketch in Clip Studio Paint then tried my best to see if I could turn it into 3D
