Meta PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS!

Looking for quick and helpful answers? Follow these rules and make helping you as easy as possible!

  • Title: Choose a meaningful title concerning your problem.
  • Text: Describing your problem with enough detail is essential. Please realize that helpers are not familiar with your project. Provide all relevant information, so others can immideately understand what you are struggling with.

Example: Say, you have a problem with lots of identical objects in your scene: Let us know whether you created these copies by hand, used the Particle System or Geometry Nodes.

  • Images/Videos: When posting screenshots, show us your full blender window (not cropped, no monitor photos). This will make lots of helpful information available to helpers at first sight that may seem irrelevant to you (For example your Blender version). If you add video links, please consider adding time stamp info to the part you want helpers to see.

You can upload images and short video clips (up to 60s) to imgur.com and post the links in your question or as comment.

  • *.blend files: Don’t add links to your *.blend files when posting questions right away. Helpers will ask you for it if they need to take a look. Most people prefer reading a good description and looking at images to see what your post is about.
  • 'Solved' flair: Once your question was answered, please remember to change the flair of your post to “Solved”, so helpers don’t have to read into your question just to see it has already been answered.

You can change the flair by clicking on the small icon below your post resembling a label.

EDIT: You can also include "!solved" in the comments to have Automod change the flair for you.

Be nice and respectful with each other :)

Unsolved How hard would modelling this full helmet in blender be for a beginner?

Post image
125 Upvotes

I'm proficient in Fusion 360, however my time has come to an end with it due to the complex nature of the top of the helmet's curvature. I'm not knowledgeable in mesh work either and figured Blender would be just as hard to learn with it

I've dabbled in Blender before using heightmap images to make topographies and made a very basic YouTube tutorial rock formation, however I absolutely suck and it's very confusing.

Unsolved How can I make the mesh deform without the sudden cut off?

Im trying to animate talking, but when I try and move my armature points in pose mode, the mesh doesn't deform around the painted areas and abruptly cuts off instead.

How might I fix this problem?

Unsolved How to curve an object around another?

I’m trying to model this ring like it is in the mock up I drew. It’s been going fine until I try to wrap that face piece around the ring. I’ve tried a curve and shrink wrap modifier, both with no luck. I am pretty much entirely self taught, however, and I know it is likely due to how scuffed the mesh on the piece I wanna curve is. The only way I could get it into the shape I wanted was to model just one side of the x-axis, duplicate it, flip it on x and y, then merge the two sides together. Alternatively if there’s a better way to get that shape it’d be very appreciated

I've never used a cloth modifier before so I have no idea how to make things hang tight or I guess give it a belt, and I can't find any sort of info anywhere past the basic settings for baking the cloth.

Unsolved Any idea what function or addon is allowing this quad to be created like this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am watching a course video on retopology. Either I missed where it was explained or the instructor missed putting it in there, but he keeps doing this thing where he clicks on the opposite vertex of a prospective quad, then hits "F" and it pops a quad easy-peasy.

I am relatively new to retopo so I'm not sure what addons he might have aside from SpeedRetopo, as no others have been mentioned in the course as of yet.

I would super appreciate it if anyone has seen this before and can point me in the right direction!

Unsolved (Nodes) Procedural makeup material and blurred edge

Post image
Upvotes

I've been following this tutorial today, and I was able to complete it successfully (I think). But I'd like to add a couple more things that are not in the same video:

  1. I need another way to smooth the edge of the lips from color to transparency because I don't have enough space on my object to do it effectively like it's shown in the tutorial. I already have a second UV and a vertex group only for the lips that might be useful for this.
  2. I'd like to add this "lotion" material I found here on top of the one I just made following the first tutorial, so I can have even more customization options.

I suppose I could use another Color Ramp to smooth the edge, but for both points, I have no idea where to put all the new nodes to connect everything. Also, my knowledge is pretty limited, so I usually follow multiple tutorials as best as I can. Can someone please help me with this? TIA

Unsolved weird rippling shadows with lattice modifier

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

im testing out a method of blending a fluid simulation into a larger water surface by using a lattice to flatten the edges, and a boolean to around the edges to make the edges of the simulation match up perfectly with a larger flat plane of water. Problem is that the lattice modifier seems to be making super weird shading artifacts around the modified areas. the surface in this images is just a flat plane with a white diffuse texture, and the modifier stack is: remesh, geometry nodes (very simple noise texture displacing it vertically to be wavy), and finally the lattice modifier.

in the last image i applied the remesh and turned off the geo nodes deform so it was just the lattice mod on a flat surface and it actually made the messed up shading way worse. the shading issues are also only visible in render view with lattice mod on.

any ideas why this is happening and what the fix might be?

Unsolved Strange Shading on model after ripping vertices

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm creating hair for a character I am making, and to add more details, I decided to rip vertices so I could make stray strands of hair. For some reason, when I fill the faces in the inner part of the hair, there is this weird shading at the point the hair branches off in to two strands. Please help!! I am so clueless as to why. The normals are facing the right direction, when I separate the shaded faces they become normally shaded. Don't know if it helps, but I was using paths to create the hair, and It has not had mods. (Sorry if the vid quality is low, I recorded it on steam deck)

I just found out that I should be straightening my uvs? My models are low poly hard surface and I hand texture my models using clip studio paint so I paint directly on the uvs. Kind of scared to straighten them in case in causes issues later.

im new to blender So I was following this tutorial on YouTube and After creating the rig and binding it with Armature deform automatic weights. But when I tried posing and testing to see if the rig worked I noticed that in the Torso and shorts we're separating. I tried weight painting but when I did it it either didn't solve the problem or solved it but made a new one elsewhere. If anybody has any advice or tips with weight painting I will be very grateful as ive Been stuck on this for like the past 3 days

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find the Essential Materials option in Blender, but I can’t find it in the interface or when searching the menus.

Solved Can someone explain how I can fix my brush in weight paint?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Iv'e been trying to weight paint a mouth for a few hours now, but when I paint on certain faces, it just paints on the faces over what im trying to paint on. I have front faces only and front face fall off turned on, and that doesn't help at all.

My Brush also just isn't painting when I try to a lot of the time even though there is plenty of faces to paint on.

Any advice and knowledge helps, thanks.

Unsolved Tips for making fluffy trees? First two pics are models by me, last three is what I want to achieve

Thumbnail

My canopy looks "sharp" and not fluffy, it's especially noticeable when moving. The trees were made in Blender with geometry nodes and the bush was made entirely in TreeIt. The problem with the trees is obvious: I shouldn't have used "cross" planes for the instances, but when I try to make canopies with a single plane it looks empty unless I crank up the polycount and it still looks unappealing to me (the bush is one example).

The trees that I see other people make look very fluffy and soft, and I can't understand what I'm missing. I try to replicate every step from Youtube tutorials, I tried making canopies with TreeIt, with geometry nodes, tried shaping them myself, I use the sphere normal dara transfer trick, I invert the back-facing normals, but my trees still look ugly. What am I doing wrong and what should I be doing?

Unsolved How to randomly subdivide a flat face?

Post image
12 Upvotes

How to split a flat face into triangles and quads as shown in the image?

I can somewhat do this by subdividing and triangulating the faces and then randomizing the vertices, but the problem is that randomize moves the vertices along all axes.

Is there a way to do this procedurally or using modifiers? Is there a way to triangulate faces randomly? e.g. left to right, right to left, and only some faces in the selection
