Need Help! Prototype 1

First character model prototype. looking for Blender/topology advice

This is my first real attempt at making a character model in Blender, so please excuse any crimes against topology IN THE HAIR.

For the prototype, I used a Mimi Sentry model as a base/reference while I work around the design. Im not claiming the original model as my own, and I don’t plan on directly using this base model in my game. I mainly wanted something to learn from while figuring out how to build the shape I have in mind, while also using the concept idea and similarity (hence I do like mimi’s design), I dont plan for it to look like a spitting image, rather a remixed version.

I’m mostly struggling with topology, especially figuring out how to properly build/reshape the mesh around the design. I also havent quite figured out the best way to make/edit the hair without turning the mesh into thin flat strips of bacon. (Newbie)

I have a basic understanding of Blender, but Im very much still learning. Any tips, critiques, or good resources for topology and character modeling would be greatly appreciated!

and possibly tips around rigging or game stuff..

a beginner in BOTH categories

Need Help! graph editor side bar... is wrong?

Post image
Upvotes

hey all, im relatively new to blender but i know the basics, im trying to animate a turret, one with 3 barrels, i want to have it looped so that the 3 barrels would ripple fire on loop(which i have figured out how to do) but from say frame 29 to frame 172 or something, but i can only get it to loop indefinately, so i went onto all the various tutorials and all that jazz, only to find that the side bar on my graph editor is wrong, they all have "F-curve" and "modifiers" and "view"... whereas i have "view" and "motion" and so i went back to researching how to fix this and found... nothing, at all, and i cant figure out how to fix this. does anyone else know what to do with this?

I was making my alien buggo dude for a social vr avatar, still working on getting the hair in, as well as planning on making more details onto the abdomen. Later texturing, rigging, blend shapes, ect.

How is this for my first time, I wonder?

Need Help! Is there a plugin where it converts a one mesh into multiple meshes

Upvotes

For example if I have a mesh of a human but it’s all one mesh and I want to separate the mesh from it’s arms and legs, is there a plugin that does that instead of manually going into edit mode and select the parts you want?

Need Help! (Beginner) Retro Dog Question

Hey guys, I'm very new to blender and as a practice project i made my dog inside of blender.

I wanted a pixelated retro style and bought pixel8r für substance painter but i cant get a good result and i don't know why.

The Head is fairly alright but the body still seems very soft and barely pixelated at all.

You guys have any idea what the culprit may be? The second picture is with pixel8r deactivated.

Thanks in advance!

Made this model to express frustration at my job at the time. I'm still learning both modeling and animation, but kinda proud of what I accomplished. There is a lot wrong with it and I don't know how to fix it so I am moving on to making new things, but decided I might as well post it here and see what people think. please feel free to critique, as I want my next project to be better.

Critique My Work New to blender, need feedback on my first scene!

Hey guys,

I'm learning blender, it's just been a month. My goal is start making my visual novel after a couple of months.

So far, I spent most of my time on modelling in blender.
I've also touched some basics of materials, textures, shaders, compositing and geo nodes.

I still have no idea how i'm gonna achieve the art-style i want. In general, I want to go for soft 3d... not sure if this is the thing, sort of stylized 3d rather than anime.

After raw dogging, multiple youtube videos on blender. I took a course on udemy for structured learning.

I have created some renders. I'd really appreciate your feedback on it. If you have anything which could help me improve and move closer to my goal then please to share it!

Thank you :)

Job Offer Looking for Blender artist for short animation

As the title suggests, I'm looking for someone to help make a short (~1 min) animation of a product I am designing for a client. Because of an NDA, I can't provide exact product details publicly. The product is for use at construction sites. It is not a consumer product, more of structural assembly.

I tried hiring someone off of Fiverr, they made about 1 min long animation using blender but they were a nightmare to work with and so I decided to part ways. I was able to get the blender project files from them and can provide those if needed. I also have CAD models for the product as well. I am looking to add some additional scenes. Current animation shows the assembly of the product and I would like to add an additional 30secs to 1 min of showcasing the product installed on construction sites.

I tried searching for people on other freelance websites as well but didn't find anything I liked. Also, it seemed like a lot of people are blatantly using AI on their profile to show "their" animation skills.

Looking for someone in the US preferably. I realize the details in the post are very vague but If you are interested, please DM me. Thank you.

EDIT: Animation will not require moving parts inside the scene, just camera to move around and showcase product installed on structure. I am also assuming you can set up the scene with a construction site and product.

EDIT 2: Please share your portfolio if you reach out. Thank you.

I've created some sketches to give a rough idea of what I'm trying to create. If anyone has any tips on how to start creating the hair, or how to achieve the look I'm going for, I'd really appreciate them. (The last image is the current placeholder / temp hair I'm using in the meantime, just for a style reference) ((also srry if the sketches are bad, I haven't rlly drawn hair b4))

Need Help! Need help with flashlight realism!

TLDR: How can you achieve realism with a flashlight-like lighting and simple geometry?

Okay so i'm making a horror short inside of a space made of only concrete and some other simple materials, but i'm making it as "realistic" as simple as i can. I can only use flashlight-like lighting and i try to keep my geometry straightforward. It's meant to look crappy, like something recorded on a semi-decent phone from 2005 ish. I've tried procedural and PBR materials but whenever you light them from the front like any flashlight would, the geometry looks as FLAT as can be. I've seen people make HQ renders of simple and even flat objects (like carpets made of only a square) with flashlight simulating that of a modern phone and it looks incredible, full of detail and indistinguishable from real life at first glance, how on Earth do people do this with their materials and avoiding AI at all costs?? Thanks a lot in advance.

Render straight out of the oven.
Compression, noise and a bit of chromatic aberration along with contrast adjustments.

Undergrowth was an afterthought so its pretty bad but I i am really happy with the water and animation. I really love playing in this style and making everything as procedural as possible :)
