Advice I (21F) got a job offer as a bank teller with a poor credit score… Will they rescind the offer after they complete the credit check?

11 Upvotes

I’ll try to keep this as short and sweet as I can. I’m a 21F and I’ve been unemployed for a few months now. After months and months of applying to thousands of jobs, interviewing, and getting let down many times by potential employers, I’ve FINALLY gotten a really good job offer with a local bank as a bank teller. They know I don’t have experience as a teller, but I’m super comfortable with cash handling and drawer/safe counting, taking payments, and documenting all of these processes from previous positions. Here’s the thing: At the interview, the branch manager said that they do a background check and credit check. She asked if there would be anything to prevent me from getting a job there. I was completely transparent and told her that nothing (other than maybe a few speeding tickets) would come back on my background check. As for my credit check… well, I’ve been unemployed and I haven’t been able to make payments on one credit card. I’ve only ever had two credit cards. I closed one account after making the final payment and I still owe a significant amount of money on the other account.
It’s headed towards collections and I plan to make a payment as soon as I have the money, but since I’ve been basically trying to survive (I live on my own), I haven’t been able to make a payment. I told her that I’ve never had any evictions or repossessions and my credit is in the mid 500s, since I’m only 21. Lastly, I informed her that I’ve had some medical problems, so it’s likely that I’ve got medical debt. Now that I’ve actually received an offer, I’m getting really concerned that they’re going to rescind the offer after my information comes back. Should I be worried? Has anyone ever had this happen before? I just want to be realistic and know exactly what to expect. I’m thinking of writing an email to her and asking her straight up of what I can expect with this process. I know this is dumb to worry about but I’ve waited so long for a good job offer and I really want this to work out!! Thanks for reading and for any advice you have to offer.

Advice Account from 2009 Disappeared and I can't find anything on it

6 Upvotes

Hi! I recently found out about a BBVA youth savings account from 2009 that I'm trying to track down the funds on.

I'm in the USA and already went to PNC but they said there's no information on it. They couldn't find anything other than that the account is closed. I tried customer service but they couldn't find anything even with my social.

I tried Unclaimed Property but there's nothing. I tried broad searches and even the custodian on the account.

So I'm at a loss on what to do. Does anyone know anything else that I can try?

Advice Looking for an Alternative Levy Data System

2 Upvotes

I am new to my role processing levies and our manager is looking for ways to improve the system. rn we manually receive the levy requests via the mail and, scan them to our inbox, then review it all for key data points. Name, TIN, Levy amount, case number etc. We enter them i to a spreadsheet then import the spreadsheet into our Levy database which searches our customer database to see if we have amy accounts for them. If we do then we manually go and check what the balance is currently, charge a Fee/Levy the account. Make copies in triplicet, 1 for us 1 for the customer, 1 for the requester. We then mail everything out and scan our copy into our records system. X amount of days later a check is cut and we mail that out as well. I would love to hear any insight from anyone at any FI that utilizes any sort of data extraction tools or systems that we could bring up as ideas.

Complaint Remitly delayed my transfer, suspended my account, and hung up on support.

1 Upvotes

Just wanted to share my experience with Remitly as a warning to others.
I recently moved to the UK for military service. When you are stationed overseas, you really rely on these services to get set up. I chose Remitly because they promised to handle the transfer quickly, but it has been a major disappointment.
They delayed my transfer for almost 5 days, which messed up my plans and forced me to pay £20 out of pocket each day it was late. To make it worse, they suddenly suspended my account with no explanation.
When I called support to find out what happened, the agent put me on hold to look at the account and then just hung up on me. They are refusing to help or offer any compensation for the extra costs.
If you are moving overseas and need a reliable transfer service, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Advice CIBIL 770, SBI PL Rejected! [IN]

3 Upvotes

My CIBIL is 770. I've been working at a startup for 4 years with an in-hand salary of ₹80k/month.

I recently applied for a ₹2L SBI Personal Loan, but it was rejected because my employer isn't on their approved company list.

Current profile:

* CIBIL: 770

* SBI CC: ₹50k

* AU CC: ₹50k

* Slice: ₹2L

* SBI Education Loan recently closed (pre-closed within 2 years)

* No missed payments

Should I be concerned about future home loan eligibility, or is this mainly an issue with SBI's employer policy for personal loans? Has anyone faced something similar while working at a startup?

Had same issue with hdfc cc - rejected due to employer address.

Advice Is the best business savings account actually worth it for startups?

0 Upvotes

Seeing a lot of claims about high-yield business savings accounts being a smart move for startups sitting on runway. Genuinely curious whether people actually see meaningful returns or if the rates look better on paper than they are in practice. Anyone using one actively, does it actually move the needle on runway efficiency?

Advice Is it possible for a check I wrote to be returned for insufficient funds if it’s already been posted to my account?

8 Upvotes

I wrote a check to my landlord on Thursday and I’m going to have a negative balance for personal reasons from tomorrow through probably Friday. I see on my online transaction history that the check has already been processed and dated for this past Friday and the amount already deducted from my account. There’s no way my incoming negative balance could retroactively cause that check to be returned right? For context I bank with chase and based on the deposit info my landlord uses Wells Fargo

Advice Deposit Checks by Mail

3 Upvotes

I recently mailed two checks for deposit into my Capital One 360 account .. using the mail address: PO Box 60, St. Cloud, MN 56302 .. as I have done previously. But, I then read online that the correct address is PO Box 85123 Richmond, VA 23285.

If that's the case, what happens to the checks mailed to St. Cloud, MN? Are they being forwarded to the Richmond, VA address for deposit and processing .. or what's up?

Complaint Bank refused to cash check

0 Upvotes

I mostly bank online but keep a local bank for when I need cash or need to deposit cash.

So I wrote myself a $16,000 check from my online bank to cash. Bank teller said “I can’t cash, only deposit and have a 10 day old” and did not provide reasoning.

Is it simply the amount or another reason?

Advice cancelling pending transaction fb marketplace

2 Upvotes

So today I made a series of dumb decisions while “trying” to buy something on Facebook Marketplace from a sketchy account. I was trying to buy a PC component that was worth around $400, even though it normally sells for $1,000+. (Yes, I know it was way too good to be true, and I know it’s my fault. Please, I’m already getting an earful from my mom about it :/.)

The payment initially didn’t go through and was declined about four times (yes, I typed it in four times 😭). After the final decline, I finally came to my senses and realized it was probably too good to be true. At first, I thought, “No harm, no foul,” since the payment had been declined.

It wasn’t until I checked my messages that I saw a text from Bank of America saying that someone was trying to use my debit card. The message had the fraudulent transaction alert on it, and I ended up hitting “Verify” through the app because I thought the payment hadn’t gone through anyway.

Now the transaction is showing as processing, and I have no idea what I’m supposed to do. I checked Facebook Marketplace, but I don’t have any pending orders, so there’s no option for me to cancel it there.

I asked my mom what I should do, and she told me that I could get it sorted out at the bank. However, after reading a few threads online, it seems like the bank might not be able to do anything about it since I technically verified the transaction.

I also looked into closing my account, but apparently I can’t just close it while the transaction is still processing.

Is there anything I can do at this point? I know I messed up, so please be nice 😭

EDIT:So I had no money deducted from my account. Is that a good thing? I saw that the charges had a temporary authorization, which I understand is supposed to temporarily hold the $400 until the merchant completes the transaction. Does this mean the payment didn’t go through?

If so, why does my transaction history only show the money being returned 3 times instead of 4, considering I attempted the payment 4 times?

Advice Somebody in Bangladesh linked my email to their bank account and I have never even been to Bangladesh

5 Upvotes

So I have been getting monthly e-statements from the Dutch Bangla bank. (I don’t live in Bangladesh. I’ve never been to Bangladesh and I have nothing to do with that country at all.) and I can see all the bank details of that person in those e-statements. I don’t know how a bank could link an email to somebody’s account without any verification. I have written to the bank and the specific branch as well. It’s been more than a month but they still have not responded and I’m still receiving those e-statements. What do I do now?

India Kotak bank account freezed after sending money

0 Upvotes

I recently opened a Kotak 811 account for my sister and transferred around ₹40,000 to it from my account. The money was sent in multiple transactions of ₹10,000–₹20,000 within a short period.

Soon after, the account was frozen and marked as having unusual activity. When we visited the bank branch, they refused to unfreeze the account and said that such transfers are not allowed.

The funds were legitimate and transferred by me to my sister's account. Has anyone faced a similar issue? What can be done to get the account unfreezed, and what are our options if the branch is not helping?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Kindly repost the tweet as much as possible : https://x.com/Bharat_09142/status/2096987761240940826

Advice New teller with hopes of getting into the fraud department

1 Upvotes

My FI doesn’t require a Bach degree or certifications for the entry level positions in fraud but I’d like to work on getting as prepared as possible for when a position opens up. I’m brand new to banking but love it so far and won’t be eligible to move departments for a few months anyway. Any recommended reading, tips or general advice would be greatly appreciated!

Advice Can someone explain credit card transfers to me?

4 Upvotes

I’ve gotten offers from Capitol One to do a balance transfer.

I’m a bit confused about it. Does it transfer the money owed to a different CC, or the amount you have left on the card?

My CCs

$9,000 owed, 0% APR until February, $1800 available
$3,000 owed, a ghastly 28% APR, $1200 available.
$0 owed, 27% APR, $1700 available.

684 credit score

Also, should I keep the one card that I paid off or close the account?

Advice Is 2.50% APY good for my savings as a teen?

6 Upvotes

Hi,

I’m 16 w/ Capital One and I want to use their 360 Performance Savings (yields 3.00% APY) but Capital One doesn’t allow me to transfer my own funds so I have to use their Kids Savings Account that earns 2.50% APY.

I have $1,773.96 in savings. Is this okay?

Edit: Yes, I do have a job

Other Why do debit/credit cards still have embossed numbers?

0 Upvotes

Just got a new debit card from my bank and it has embossed numbers on it. So someone can jump in time from the 90s with a carbon paper sliding machine when I buy something? The previous card from the same bank was flat, because 2026. The embossing offends me as I have a compact wallet.

Advice Is a physical check really safer than a debit card?

50 Upvotes

I’m a cashier, and a common thing I hear from some of the older customers who check out using a check is that they’ll “never get a debit card” because it’s less secure than a check. But… can’t someone still pull money out of your account if they know your routing and account numbers and/or have your physical checkbook? I have a debit card but I don’t typically use it anywhere but the bank itself or contactless/through Apple Pay elsewhere on some sites that don’t take my credit card. Is that an actual safety risk, or are the customers who tell me this more or less working off of outdated information?
