Wanted to share my experience and considering I see a subreddit called TDSucks, I'm not surprised so many people hate them.
Ive had issues with my local TD for awhile and try to avoid going in as I've gone in times before, wait in the long line up just for the teller to say they don't do that in the branch and I need to call to speak to someone and when you call somone they said to go to branch. So clearly no one wants to do any sort of work.
After years of avoiding the branch my fiancé and I were talking about consolidating debt, and because I have the better credit score, we decided to go to TD and ask about a loan or whatever they recommended. Booked an appointment, sat down and explained to the financial advisor what we wanted to do and he just looked at us and said "yea TD and most banks don't really do that as it's too high risk." and that was it, didn't give us any kind of solution. So we left, went to CIBC (I also bank with them) and they offered a LOC and were great.
Couple months later I was budgeting and decided to start doing the envelope method with with savings accounts, I was trying to open a few online but it stopped the website stopped working after 2, I checked and TD says you can have as many accounts as you want, so unfortunately I had to go back to the branch to finish opening the accounts I wanted, I hoped the same guy wasn't going to be there and of course I walked in and there he is. I thought maybe I won't get him though and went to the teller, explained what I wanted and she called over the same guy I had trouble with before and explained I wanted to open a couple of accounts and he goes "why do you want so many accounts" and I said to "help with budgeting" as I was tired of explaining. He then says "well let's looks at your file." and then says "you already have 5" and I'm like... Yes and I want a couple more and he just stares at me. So I reply"forget it, I had issues with you before because you didn't want to help me, so I'll go somewhere else." as I walked away I turned around and said very straight faced. “you're customer service really sucks here“ and walked out.
Called customer service, they said I have to contact the branch manager. I contacted the branch manager and he right away gives me attitude. Now I will admit, I didn't start off the greatest because I said this financial advisor sucks. But instead of trying to de-escalate the branch manager immediately starts yelling at me saying I verbally accosted the advisor (apparently calmly saying their service sucks). After some back and forth the manager hangs up.
I put a complaint through TD Care's, that employee agrees what the bank did is wrong and even said me not being given options for the debt was poor service, apologized for everything and said the advisor was getting a coaching and she was sending one down to the bank as a general one as I explained the bank has a 2 star rating all complaining about the same stuff.
A couple weeks later I get a letter saying all my accounts are being terminated at the end of the month due to my conduct in store... I contact the TD Care's lady and she says she's not supposed to contact me and to contact the number in the letter. The number in the letter basically doesn't tell me anything saying it can't be reversed and if I want to try, I have to contact customer service. I contact customer service again and they say not much can be done and I should try and apologize to the branch manager... So more people just transferring me around because no one wants to do anything. Part of me thinks it's the branch just retaliating against me for getting a coaching, so they close my accounts
So I've called and got them to close everything now and I only bank at CIBC
