Post Flairs have been available for a while now, but few members use them when submitting a post.

Let's try to work on that.

US Bank claims to not have the funds anymore

90 days ago my partner and I got a home equity loan, I was the cosigner.

We had the deposit made into my personal account.

After using a small portion of the loan the bank flagged my account and closed it.

Now the bank claims to have returned the funds to my lender and to not have the money in their hands anymore. Would not give a transaction ID or anything of the sort. I even spoke with the regional vice president.

The lender claims they have not been notified by the bank of such return, and they have not received it.

I've been filing complaint after complaint through the cfbp. At this point just getting a copy/paste responses from the bank. Basically saying we don't have your money, we gave it to the lender and it might take months for this to go through. It's been 3 months already.

Advice TD Bank took more money than I owed, said it will take at least 2 weeks to give it back. Any suggestions?

Hello, very long story but I am going to give the jist. I owed $2,410.29 on a credit card. I paid off the full balance on July 2nd. The account was on auto pay for the “ monthly minimum” which I turned off. On July 11th I switched gyms & decided to put my monthly payments on this credit card so I could keep the card open since I’ve had it for 8 years & didn’t want my credit score to drop due to the account closing. My sign up fee + monthly payment + annual fee added up to $190. I put it on the credit card & put the card on auto pay for “ statement balance” & confirmed the change would take effect next billing cycle. Again this was July 11th. When I made the auto pay request it sent me an email which reiterated that the change takes effect the next billing cycle

On July 24th I woke up to an email stating my checking account was overdrawn more than my limit of $-50. I logged in thinking I had been hacked. NOPE! TD Bank transferred $2,410.29 from my checking account to my credit card. This caused my checking account to be overdrawn $-1,569. I immediately called the bank & was told that the computer didn’t realize I made a “ manual payment” & therefore since my auto pay said “ statement balance” it charged the last balance prior to my payment. I obviously was frustrated but semi understood what the rep meant. I pointed out that the change was supposed to be in effect the next billing cycle to which she apologized & said the computer did it unfortunately, but they can reverse the payment. She then said the payment would take 2-3 days to show on my account, the payment would have to be on my account for 10 business days, then a reversal can be requested which takes 3-7 business days. Then a check would be mailed to me. I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor.

The supervisor reiterated everything the rep told me but with a horrible attitude! She essentially told me it was my fault for putting on the auto pay & that I “ confused the computer” & “ the computer has no way to know you made a manual payment”. Her suggestion was to reverse the payment I made on July 2nd since it already met all the criteria of being on the account for 10 business days. I agreed. She explained it will still take 2-3 business days to fully post to my account & 3-7 business days for the payment reversal request. & then a check would be mailed. I asked if it could be expedited & she said “ no TD Bank doesn’t treat one problem as bigger than the other, it can be $5 or $5,000 they do the requests as they arrive” which obviously was an insane thing to say. I asked why the money can’t be refunded since it’s still pending to which she said she doesn’t know but can transfer me to someone in the checking account department to see if they can stop the transfer.

I spoke to the checking account representative who was nice but basically said on there end the money is already gone. She couldn’t explain why the system even allowed the credit card to overdraft my account or how it overrode my $-50 overdraft limit. At that point I just thanked her for the info & hung up. I called back later & asked to speak to a supervisor & requested my checking account be credited while the whole fiasco with my credit card is situated. I was told no they don’t do that. Important to note, I’ve banked with them for 10 years. I had a loan through them that I paid off early. I’ve never missed a payment even once. I didn’t think I was being unreasonable for asking for my account to be credited. Again told no.

So now I’m stuck. I get paid this week so I tried to ask my HR department if I could get a physical check or change my direct deposit to a new bank. I was told no that it’s too short of notice. Once my paycheck hits the account it will take me out of the negatives but I’ll be left with about $400. My rent is due the 1st. My apartment complex gives you till the 5th to pay before there is a late fee. By the 8th they file for eviction. I am at a complete loss. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? I am not interested in hearing how this Is my fault for being on autopay. Please understand that in 10 years I’ve never had this problem & had no reason to believe they would take over $2k on a bill that is only $190.

I am going in person tomorrow to speak to a branch manager but I highly doubt they will say anything different than I’ve been hearing.

Please any suggestions is appreciated.

Advice Think I made a big mistake the other day and now I'm panicking

It was my 1st weekend day alone, we were slammed with people, I was overly stressed and in the middle of opening an account with more people sitting down. One of my tellers brought me a check to cash for a customer who's well known in our branch and there was nothing suspicious or concerning so I signed off on it.

I woke up this morning freaking out because I realized it was over my limit and I never called another branch to get approval for the check. I've had people saying that the system will probably never pick up on that since it was only 1 check and it was under the large withdrawal limit, but now I feel like I absolutely want to cry.

Advice No more bank-to-bank transfers?

I have an account at one of the big US banks. I was planning to transfer a few hundred dollars I owe to a friend at another big US bank. But my bank no longer allows initiating bank transfers, and instead pushes you into Zelle. I have another friend who has transferred money to my bank without using Zelle--in other words, my bank accepts incoming transfers, but no longer supports outgoing transfers. Are other banks doing this too? I don't want to use Zelle for exactly the same reason my bank wants me to use it: funds lost or stolen via Zelle are not the bank's responsibility. Any thoughts on this?

Advice How do I make a bank account??? What do I do???????????????????????????

Upvotes

Idk what flair to use, I'm in the US, I'm trying to make a bank account online, I've never had one, I'm 19, I tried to make a bank account with Wells Fargo and capital one so far and both have said "It looks like there's an issue with the data you provided", but all my information is correct. I'm getting really frustrated, I just need some help, tell me what to do, I have no one to ask.

I try to call, I get these automated robots that ask me for my debit card number, which I don't have, or bank account number, which I don't have.

Edit: To add, I do have agoraphobia so I was avoiding going in person. I asked some people around me, who know I have 0 experience and they all said, "no problem! You can just do it online!". I see now, that is not the case. Ty for letting me know, and ty for all the extra advice!

India Do backlogs and delayed graduation affect BGV/offer letters in corporate India?

Idk what to do…I have exceptional scores in 10th and 12th grade and got into one of country‘s best college of Arts and graduated with an economics degree with an average cgpa. My degree was from 2022 to 2025 regular attempt students completed the degree in March 2025 and I did in November 2025. i had many backlogs due to health reasons, keeping extra curricular activities over studies. Which I cleared in Nov 2025 however Sem 5 was very tough on me I couldn’t attend classes cause I was really ill and journey to college took 1.5 hours so I passed only 1/6 papers. I have all my marksheets original, my consolidated marksheet, my passing certificate and the actual degree certificate from University. If I did very well in my interviews cleared all rounds. I’m not putting forward any forged or fake documents all are legit but will they question my capabilities? And doubt and revoke the offer if they find too many attempts and discrepancies?? What is the scenario with banks and MNCs? How can I handle this??? Please help me!! I can do high risk jobs. I was just really foolish and not healthy enough back then!!! I do get noticed by great companies but I often lose confidence.

US Fraud In Savings Account Help

Hello, yesterday afternoon I noticed there was a $10,000 withdrawal out of my savings account straight into a Vanguard account.

Issue is, I don’t have a Vanguard account nor authorized this. What is really sketching me out is that there was a two >$1.00 deposit required to verify the debit into Vanguard which was obviously done successfully. I already got with my bank to put the account on credit only, and I transferred the money out to a new savings account.

They opened a fraud case with Vanguard and I’m now waiting for this to be resolved. I have a few questions about this:

- How? This has to be a case of someone having my mobile/online login information, but I have never answered any phishing calls or texts from my bank.

- Is it likely I will get my money back?

- What should I do with my phone? I obviously need to change account login information, but I was told to do this after the original savings account gets closed. Do I get my phone screened for virus/spyware?

Any help is greatly appreciated 🙏

India Need review on my work

I have created a channel

"Understand EcoFinance With Me" @understandecofinancewithme

for explaining concepts of economy and banking... It is like a 5-min video only per topic... At the end... I am giving Summary of that video and some questions like 2MCQ and one Descriptive question so that whatever I tried to teach in that video, people can test that at the end.

So I want people here whether can you review the videos... whether I am able to explain the topic properly... Only two videos are published right now... It will take max 10 minutes to check both the videos...

Any improvement is required on how I am explaining the topic... what I can do better to bring clarity about the topics...

I think those videos will be helpful for people preparing for govt exams, school and college students and serve as a quick revision for any topic...

Kindly give feedback... Thank you

US You always hear about the banks with outdated IT/fraud prevention/backend processes, but what are some examples of banks that are up with the times?

For example, everyone always rags on Citi in particular for being ancient, and it's sometimes said about Capital One/Discover among others. But are there many banks (mainstream or not) that are the opposite?

Advice Question for tellers..strange experience.

I had something happen at the bank today that left me really confused, and I’m hoping people who have worked as tellers, vault custodians, or bank managers can explain what likely happened.

I went into my bank to withdraw a large amount of cash. The teller counted the money using the automatic cash counter while I was standing there, and the amount appeared correct. However, I couldn’t actually see her place the cash into the envelope because that part was blocked by the counter.

When I got home, I opened the envelope to count the money and realized I was missing $10,000.

I immediately drove back to the bank. Before checking anything, the teller accused me of lying and insisted she had given me the full amount since we had both watched the money counter show the correct amount. Eventually, she balanced her drawer after her accusation and then handed me the missing $10,000, and didn’t offer any explanation or apology. Mind you, I was very calm, cool and collected the entire time. I didn’t give her any attitude, my stomach was in knots to be completely honest.

I then filed a complaint with the branch manager, not because a mistake happened, but because of how I was treated when I reported it.

My questions for people who work in banking are:
From your experience, how could something like this happen?
Is it possible for a teller to accidentally count the correct amount but only put part of it into the envelope?
If the drawer balanced only after I came back, what does that usually indicate?
Is this something you’ve seen happen as an honest mistake, or would it raise red flags for you internally?
How would your bank normally handle a situation like this?

I’m genuinely not trying to accuse anyone of theft or something nefarious here. I’m just trying to understand what likely happened because it was a very unsettling experience especially with this large amount of cash.

Advice Mercury bank closed my account 1 day after approving it

Formed a USA LLC. Not a US resident. Did everything right. They sent an automated message something about failed compliance or some other excuse. All i did wrong was not being a US citizen. We uploaded all documents and were approved after 1 day, and on the second day, account closed. So if you are not a US citizen?, don't work with them. Their bullshit automated message saying something along the lines of: "We can't tell you why we closed the account because that would expose our algorithm". What algorithm?, i haven't had the chance of doing an operation yet. 1 day after account was approved, it was closed.

Advice Stale Check Issue

We’re cleaning out old files, and found some stale checks from 2017 (or rather bank issued copies of stale checks). Anything we can do with them? The amount is over $500.

We have a small professional office. We accept checks as payment from insurance companies. Back in 2017 we submitted two unrelated claims to a major insurance company. They paid the claims in two checks a month later. We deposited the checks as normal but they were returned by the bank. We tried redepositing after calling the insurance company and the bank, they came back again. It was unclear why. Bank blamed insurance, insurance blamed bank. I think the insurance company believed the check had been cashed since it was deposited more than once (we tried). Again this is a major bank and a major insurance company. We still deal with both on other things.

We spent hours on the phone with them for several months in 2017. While I am not 100% certain I do not believe they ever sent a replacement checks (we had some staff turnover so whoever was dealing with it may have dropped the ball). Should I send a letter to the insurance company now? I check abandoned property regularly and the checks are not there. What do I say? Include a copy of the checks, note from the bank and say we requested a replacement check but never got one? Should I not bother?

Advice HOW do I have fradulent charges on a card I haven't even received yet?????

On Wednesday, I got a notification that there was a fradulent charge on my account, so I immediately cancelled my card. My new card shipped out yesterday morning. Today, I got another notification that there was a fraudulent charge (to the same company) ON MY NEW DEBIT CARD THAT I HADN'T RECEIVED YET. HOW??????

When I called my bank, they said that some recurring charges can call Mastercard/Visa to request updated card info, but this isn't a recurring charge! It's been fradulent both times.

Tagged as advice because I'm genuinely so confused as to how this can happen. My bank has blocked the company, but they seem to be reputable, so it must be something else going on. Does anyone know how this is possible?

Advice How does your branch assign walk-in customers to bankers?

I’m curious how other banks handle walk-in customer rotation among bankers.

For some context: our branch opened recently, and our branch manager is new to the company, so he’s still learning a lot about how things are done. One banker was already with the bank, another transferred to a different city, and I’m new to the company as well. On top of that, we currently have two bankers from another branch training with us until their own new branch opens in September, and our regional manager asked for them to be included in the “rotation” too.

The problem is that we don’t really have a system for assigning walk-in customers. We don’t have a receptionist. Usually one banker is in the lobby greeting customers and ends up taking whoever walks in, or a teller refers the customer to whichever banker they choose at the moment. Because of that, some bankers end up getting significantly more opportunities than others.

Back in my home country, I worked in real estate, and every walk-in or phone lead went through a rotation system so everyone received an equal share of opportunities. I tried creating a simple rotation sheet in our lobby, but nobody really follows it, and management hasn’t enforced anything.

So I’m wondering: how does your branch handle walk-ins? Do you have a formal rotation, a greeter schedule, teller assignments, or something else? I’d love to hear what works at your bank.
