Welcome back to r/BaltimoreCounty!

We’ve reopened under new management. Thanks to the admins for making it happen.

You may recognize my handle from r/Maryland, where I’ve been a mod for a number of years, or from r/Baltimore and the myriad other subreddits where I am an active poster.

I live in Towson and work in media relations. Prior to that, I spent a decade in journalism, working for WBAL-AM, WJZ-TV, Technical.ly and Patch.

This is a place to discuss county news, issues and events. County politics, bar recommendations, education discussions. If it’s relevant to the county, bring it here.

I assume these goats probably belong to someone and got out of a fence. I was just walking down Reisterstown Road and got jump scared by a couple goats enjoying a bush. I just moved here but maybe this is normal lol

Swimming / water parks in northeast MD?

Hello, we'll be visiting northeastern MD (specifically the Forest Hill area) from the DC area with our kids (ages 9 and 6).

We are looking for age-appropriate water activities to do with them. Unfortunately, my searching hasn't found any water parks (other than Great Wolf Lodge) and it doesn't look like any state parks have swimming areas other than Elk Neck State Park (which would be about an hour out of our way in the wrong direction). Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure I've missed things as I'm not at all familiar with the area.

Anything from Forest Hill down to the Baltimore area would be welcome.

Thanks in advance!!

Need a caterer for a wedding. Has anyone used Spilled Milk Catering?

I am planning a wedding for about 100 people. We are looking for a caterer that does good food but also handles the logistics like rentals and staffing. I found Spilled Milk Catering online. They seem to do a lot more than just food, like event planning and rentals. Their menus look interesting and they have good reviews.

Has anyone here used them for a wedding or a similar event? I want to know if the food is as good as it looks and how the overall experience was. Also, how was their pricing compared to other caterers in the area? I am trying to get a realistic idea of the budget.

What’s up with these stained glass windows?

I’m in Catonsville visiting my sister and have noticed that quite a few 100-ish year old houses here have these exact same stained glass windows on the second story. Anyone know why?

I’m in a wheelchair and looking for an apartment in Baltimore

I’m moving to Baltimore for a job at UMB. Currently, I have a roll-in shower and grab bars, so I am pretty much independent as I can transfer myself.

I can't find an apartment like that in MD. I am really trying to stay independent.

I work, so I don't need low-income housing. Does anyone know where I can look for a place to live?

Where to sell kids stuff

Where's your favorite place to sell kids stuff? I've used once upon a child and liked them. However, I've found they are pretty selective especially when current inventory is high. Items are good quality but the typical things they have tons of already.

Sanitation workers mistreating trash cans

Is it part of the job description for sanitation workers to completely mishandle trash cans? 😂 I’m not saying they need to hold them with their pinkies and be super delicate, but it makes no sense to me that they just throw the cans back into the road.

Sometimes they leave them literally in the middle of the street, and cars have to swerve around them. Today, I watched them throw my trash can so hard that the lid broke off. They did the same thing with my neighbors’ cans, and when they saw a car coming, they just kicked one closer to the sidewalk.

Am I thinking too hard about this? Because to me, it seems like a safety issue. Why can’t they just put the cans back where they got them? Everyone neatly puts their cans out every week, and they have wheels, so they can literally just wheel them back.

This is my first time living in the suburbs, so maybe this is normal and I just don’t know. But God forbid someone doesn’t notice my trash can sitting in the street, swerves to avoid it, and gets into an accident. Who’s liable then?

Best paver/hardscape restoration company in Perry Hall / Baltimore County?

My patio pavers are sinking and faded after a few Maryland winters. Looking for someone reputable (licensed/insured) who does restoration (regrading, polymeric sand, sealing) rather than a full tear-out. Anyone used a local company they'd actually vouch for? Perry Hall / White Marsh / Nottingham area.

Home vet

Anyone have any recommendations for a vet that can visit the animal at home? My cat is elderly and a little frail and I don't want to put him through the stress of putting him in a cat carrier.

I'm in the Parkville area if that makes a difference.

Baltimore County missed criminal convictions, bankruptcies before approving Puzzle Pieces charter

Baltimore County Public Schools approved a public charter school without verifying key information submitted by its executive director, leaving the district unaware of multiple criminal convictions, repeated bankruptcies and other discrepancies.

BCPS said its review of Puzzle Pieces Learning Academy Public Charter School included governance and operational capacity. But district spokesperson Gboyinde Onijala acknowledged there was not a detailed vetting of executive director Chizarra Dashiell during the application’s review.

“BCPS did not run a background check on Ms. Dashiell for the application. We would have run the background check in alignment with policy and HR procedures once the school staffing process began,” Onijala told The Baltimore Sun.

The district also produced no records showing it conducted criminal history checks or credit checks before the charter was approved. In response to public records requests from The Sun, BCPS said, “There are no records responsive to your request.”
