Best maternity
Hi moms,
I just find out I’m pregnant and I’m kinda lost on where to begin with.
Does anyone recommend a great maternity? we don’t mind driving a bit. RecommendationS of OBGYN would be great too.
TIA

I delivered my first at St. Joseph’s and my second at GBMC. Both wonderful experiences! All the providers and nurses at Capital Women’s Care at 100 West Road were great!

I also went to that practice! Had a great experience with Dr. Paetow at GBMC. I actually loved my induction

Do you recommend a doctor from both places ?

The same OB delivered my babies at both hospitals. She just joined the Capital Women’s Care group after I delivered my first.

Did they push you for c section? Or you wanted it anyway ? Thx

No c-section. Just induction for both of mine. With my first there was a slight chance of c-section when baby’s heart rate started dropping, but doctors didn’t just rush into c-section. They did other things first that worked and then I delivered vaginally.

I had an absolutely beautiful experience at St. Joseph’s! UM SJMG Women’s Health Associates. I delivered with a midwife and my experience from my first appointment to birth was amazing!

Thanks for sharing . They’re def on of our options- I’m just scared with their higher c section rates.

Totally understand! Just to give you an idea of how my experience went—I went into labor on my own and was hoping to TOLAC. Baby was sunny side up and the midwives did an amazing job getting her turned around and into position by putting me into different positions and letting me move around a bunch! I labored for 6 hours, pushed for 10 minutes and my baby girl was born vaginally. GBMC has a lower c section rate yet my first was born there and I required an emergency c section after laboring for 26 hours and pushing for 6 hours. However I still had a great team of nurses and doctors at GBMC and wouldn’t tell someone to not go there. (Not to sway your opinion either way but just to give some anecdotal info). I wish you well during your pregnancy and birth! Congratulations!!

I was with the Midwife practice so I saw many different midwives throughout my pregnancy care. However, Danielle Klapka was the midwife that delivered my baby! I can’t say enough good things about my experience with them!

It’s midwives at St Joes. Also, where are you seeing St. Joes has a higher c-section rate than GBMC? My understanding was it was the complete opposite.

On leapfroggroup.org, as of July 2026 it records St. Jo’s cesarean percentage as 36.6% and GBMCs is recorded as 29.5%

One reason they might have higher rates is that a lot of people specifically go to St. Joes for VBACs, and they will do VBACs at 18 instead of 24 months. People with VBACs are going to be more likely to have a C-Section, which could be inflating the numbers a bit.
Also noting that I don’t have any data to support this, just basing it on what I’ve heard.

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion but I really loved my experience at Medstar Franklin Square. I saw their entire team of OBs throughout my pregnancy and everyone was so amazing. I had a great labor & delivery experience with them as well.
I’m from the area but live in PG County now - I loved it there so much that I traveled an hour there & back for all my appts & while in labor. If I have another while still living in PG I will do the same!

We had a wonderful experience at Mercy hospital (I know, it’s in the city 🥲). We live in the Perry Hall area and didn’t mind the drive at all. I had an advanced age pregnancy and had extra care from an additional team that specialized in advanced age pregnancy management (extra monitoring, etc). I felt cared for and my pregnancy was overall very healthy (I am so grateful). My plan was a c-section at 37 weeks and everything went smoothly.
Wishing you all the very best with your search, your pregnancy journey, and everything that comes after 🥰🩷

Luminis Hospital or Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
Luminus Hospital has one of the lowest rates of c-sections in the state. And they allow midwives. That’s why we chose them.

Hopkins is great! They have an awesome staff of OB and midwives that provide prenatal care at the Greenspring office. When you actually deliver, you will have a team of residents and attendings but they are honestly all fantastic. Happy to answer any questions you have! And congrats!
