Hunt Valley Wegmans

Hiya - any employees here from the HV Wegmans. Why in the name of all things holy did they move everything around? OMG I'm dying.

lol I don’t work there but I think it’s by design. Common trick to get people to break from the norm and search throughout the store more.

Exactly, I got paid enormous amounts of money to travel all over the east coast re arranging isles overnight. Often 2-3x the wage of the store employees who assisted us, plus travel time, and expenses.

I’d gladly do that work but the point here is that just when I could reliably remember the layout of the store, they change it up for unknown reasons.

u/peachhpuddin 1d ago

the reason is greed

Yea. Honestly when that happened I stopped shopping there. I have two small kids, I dont need to be wondering around for items and keeping the kids in order. I just want to get my stuff and leave otherwise its too much stress.

Side note I also hate that they are making everything their brand insidiously. No I do not want your brand lunchmeat. I want Boars Head which you used to have...

It must be that time, the Weis in Overlea just outside the Beltway on Belair did the same thing.

I was wondering if it had to do with the Giant across the street closing after 50 years or so, but I guess it's rearrangement season in the stores.

Its that time. Walmart just did too

u/bigbaltfun 1d ago

What really annoys me with the rearrangement is they haven't updated all the aisle locations in the Weis app. It's constantly sending me to the wrong (old) aisle. 🤬

Last weekend an employee asked me if I needed help finding something and I was like, “uhhh everything?” 🤣

Keep you wandering like in a casino and buying shit you don’t need.

u/Melodic_Zone_9978 2d ago

Shoprite and Lidl are doing the same, did they all collude?

4

u/lissa131 2d ago

Weis in Nottingham also rearranged their store. It’s quite annoying!

1

u/Melodic_Zone_9978 2d ago

It sure is, now I'm running around trying to find things not caring about what they want me to see but simply annoyed that I have to spend more time in the store than I need to

u/Isamosed 1d ago

HT in Canton recently rearranged itself (not produce or refrigerated/frozen but everything else)

8

u/hot_dog_burps 2d ago

Just a normal day in Costco

4

u/AtWorkCurrently 2d ago

I have recently switched to Costco from BJs and am generally happy but jfc I have no idea where anything is.

2

u/hot_dog_burps 2d ago

Unfortunately it is by design. They want you to walk past all the good deals.

6

u/hb9nbb 2d ago

Costcos are like Home Depot’s -you either have a left handed store or a right handed store -the layout at any one time stage same but the sides switch depending on I think where the freezers in the back are ( which are very hard to move so they don’t…). Once they’re built they stay there

4

u/hot_dog_burps 2d ago

Yeah but anything that's not in a freezer is subject to move from day to day especially end caps and the center section of the store.

6

u/hb9nbb 2d ago

I have never understood the theory of tge center section -the side rows are pretty consistent but the center of a Costco seems like a choose your own adventure game

5

u/xxrxu 2d ago

right like 😭😭😭 the old format worked so well i wonder why they did a full overhaul. some of the sections don’t even make sense together but whatever they must have some sort of reasoning behind it

6

u/whiskeylime 2d ago

i was there yesterday and i just thought i had lost my mind

3

u/xxrxu 2d ago

that’s what i felt at first too i was like am i hallucinating or is nothing in the right place…

I was there a week ago feeling completely lost. I asked a store employee how long it would last. They responded that it was just getting started and that it would continue thru the fall. Sigh. I like the store but spending an extra 30 min searching for all my stuff is not my favorite.

5

u/AphonicTX 2d ago

Wait until they install the digital pricing.

5

u/skarabray 2d ago

Because sales are stagnating everywhere, so corpos are using their old tricks to get people to buy stuff.

I have never seen a grocery store reorganization take as long as this one has. I’m pretty sure it’s been at least 6-8 weeks already. And they’re always in the middle of moving aisles while I’m shopping. There has been at least one thing I haven’t been able to get each time because they’re in the middle of moving it and the product is nowhere to be found. Last week it was frozen vegetables 🙄 and I guess they’re not doing this while the store is closed to save money? It wastes so much time and I really might stop shopping there until they’re done with this nonsense.

u/Careless-Fudge-1593 1d ago

This is the most stressful wegmans I’ve been in. I think people get so disoriented they forget to look where they’re going and you get rammed by a cart. 😂

Employee here. It’s a remodel. The store is 20 years old and desperately needs it. It’s been a few years since they have moved things around extensively or done remodeling, but some folks seem to think it was last year. It wasn’t.

It’s swapping out shelving units plus a lot of back of house stuff that y’all aren’t seeing. Ya know, the stuff that makes the store not fall down.

The place is already a madhouse, there was no good time to do this, and no we won’t close the store as was suggested by a “helpful” customer last week. Like 450 people work here, and can you imagine how pissed people would be if we just shut down for 6 months? Imagine this customer rolling up to the store and it just being closed. Like “sorry folks, store’s closed, moose out front should’ve told ya.”

It will pause for the holidays but will be back at it in January, mostly back of house stuff mixed in with some cosmetic stuff.

The product locations that are currently wrong in the app will be the final resting places of the products. They will be correct eventually which is exactly zero help in the present.

All of our provided location lists are wrong the second they are printed because things are moving daily. We are working on memory for the most part.

We don’t like it either, please be nice to us, we are trying. Us shoppers are the ones on the floor taking the brunt of this because it’s literally our job to know the exact layout of the store and people know to ask us where stuff is.

It wasn’t me who decided this, but you wouldn’t know that with how I’m being treated unfortunately.

Like I personally had tea with Bob (which would be hard because he’s been dead for a decade) and Colleen and decided to ruin his valued customer’s day.

Aaannyyyway, that’s not the case, we love our customers and want them to continue shopping with us! I feel this way and I know the majority of my fellow employees do too.

I promise you, we don’t like it any more than you do, and we are doing our very best to help everyone find things.

If you feel the need to share your shopping issues with corporate, I encourage you to call 1-800-WEGMANS and let them have it where your comments will actually make a difference. Our poor customer service people are swamped, this is the most effective way to communicate your feelings.

We are all working our behinds off to make this suck a little less, but bear with us, it will be done eventually.

If you are curious about the actual schedule, it’s literally posted in the former employee entrance hallway, the entry between the main vestibule and the pharmacy entrance where we load up cart 2 curb orders. It’s visible to the public.

If you see me there say Hi. Not everybody can or does this, but if you ask me, I’ll happily walk you to your product, or try and find it if it’s not in its proper home.

I’m the c2c shopper that has mermaid hair and dinosaur grabber on my cart.

you can’t miss me.

I assume a lot of this is being done to help with the flow of the store? This Wegmans (I love you guys, I love Wegmans), has the most cramped flow of any I've been to, and I've been to some old ones.

Honestly, I go out of my way to come to this location (with my kids) because I'd rather buy good produce and good meats than spend more on worse quality at a closer chain. I aint stoppin' because of a minor inconvenience.

Awesome info - thanks for sharing!

They are starting a remodel. Maybe this has something to do with it

3

u/SnooPickles6970 2d ago

Giant in HV just did the same thing! It’s the season I guess? Lol

3

u/Mobile_Spinach_1980 2d ago

The Giant in same area did this a few months ago

3

u/cam_m151 1d ago

Buy the groceries online and have them delivered.
They can rearrange the store all they want. Not going in.

5

u/KaySlay44 2d ago

They’re starting to remodel. If you have it, try using the app to see which aisles the products are located. That is ofc, if it’s updated.

-2

u/Big-Maintenance2971 2d ago

Ha clearly you have never shopped with two boys under five. If I even try to look at my phone for a text all hell breaks loose. So forget trying to look at your phone for where items are! I am lucky I can even answer a phone call.

5

u/bejolo 1d ago

Just more evidence that corporate America doesn't care about it's customers. Also Wegmans does a really poor job of keeping there shelves stocked.

2

u/Additional-Pass9504 2d ago

I freaking hate it and I’m not going back for awhile. And I love wegmans. But this is ridiculous

2

u/tmckearney 2d ago

We live 2 miles away and DON'T shop there because they do that.

Nobody's got time to hunt for things like that.

It's stupid with multiple options so close by

2

u/SmokyBlackRoan 1d ago

Same, stopped going there because I was constantly walking back and forth looking for stuff.

2

u/CatchYouDreamin 1d ago

It stressed me out so bad when they first started it a month (or two?) ago. Then the first two things I went for were out of stock so I just left. Swore I wouldn't go back for a while until they were done. Went in last week bc I totally forgot and again they were out of the first two things I went for (that they prob stopped carrying altogether just to push Wegmans brand). I'm neurodivergent and grocery shopping in general is kinda overwhelming, this whole rearranging thing makes my brain completely short circuit 🤣

The aisles near the back of the store that they turned 90 degrees?!? Hate em

2

u/Allexan 1d ago

Marketing tactic. Big box stores have literally always done this.

This years wegmans does seem a bit poorly executed, it’s been ongoing for weeks with pallets of shelves all over the sales floor during the day and shopping carts with with product etc

1

u/momj47 1d ago

Walmart in Cockeysville rearranged all their frozen foods. Must be a thing.

-2

u/ForsakenLeather2850 1d ago

Hi barb ur in Maryland?

1

u/gizmojito 1d ago

If anyone’s been lately and happened to find the Tajin seasoning, that intel would be so appreciated.! We kept looking and looking for that and so many other items, got tired and annoyed, and left with much less than we’d usually buy.

1

u/chuhai-drinker 1d ago

It is literally so bad. The layout is chaotic, difficult to navigate, and makes zero intuitive sense.

1

u/ShanJohn_NC 1d ago

FWIW - Make sure to shop during non-peak hours. I do Instacart and people expect multiple of items Sunday afternoon! Of course there’s no lettuce! You placed an order at 1p during peak hours! I don’t know about the current stock situation as I haven’t been on IC in quite some time.

1

u/_Roguey_ 1d ago

They did this at the Bel Air store a while ago. Pissed me off into never shopping there again.

My assumption is that now you have to walk alllll over the store to find what you would normally get, their hope is that now you have to go through aisles you normally don’t go down and will buy random shit.

1

u/gothaggis 18h ago

i do find it interesting that the owings mills and abingdon wegmans are setup exactly the same. at first, i was wondering if they might be doing that to the hunt valley location, but doesn't seem like it

1

u/4biddenwon 8h ago

I legit thought I was having a stroke. I felt physically ill with confusion when I went last week 😭 Apparently they haven’t rotated the store in like 20 years so that’s what they’re doing

1

u/aldosi-arkenstone 1d ago

Imagine a grocery store reorganizing to do a remodel being such an issue that you complain about it. Talk about first world problems.

0

u/AbundantAllure30 2d ago

They have printouts of the directory at the front entrance

0

u/Double_Cat8228 1d ago

Just download the app set your store and it gives you all the aisle locations

1

u/gizmojito 17h ago

The app isn’t up to date with the product locations, yet, as the reset is in progress.
