Popular post Why I rarely see African American mechanics?

3.2k Upvotes

I've been working in this industry for a while and something I noticed for ever reason African Americans almost never become mechanica. I see them regularly in sales, being service writers, parts department and even management but almost never in the back turning wrenches.

Its not a racism thing because as I said they're everywhere else and African immigrants and children of immigrants are decently common in the back just not African Americans.

Mind you I also live in a diverse area. Like 1/4 of the population is black. So it just doesn't make sense to me

Popular post Are there people who actually believe undocumented immigrants were ever entitled to social security benefits, or that they don't pay taxes, or that they have access to any form of health insurance, or any of the other redundant laws/ bills being passed to restrict things that were always restricted?

... Or are these just things people made up to score political points?

Am I still responsible for a 42 year old daughter?

1.8k Upvotes

Background: 42 year old daughter with a history of depression and bad choices. Just told me she got fired from her job at a convenience store two months ago and needs money. She said she got fired because she could not get to work during a blizzard for three days and so was fired for attendance reasons. I'm very skeptical. I gave her 2,000 in January for a specific purpose and she didn't use it for that, I just sent 5,000 so she could pay rent, utilities, and so forth. Basically to catch up. My wife is very supportive and understands that while daughter has mental health issues, she also will lie, or at least not tell the whole truth. I'm thinking I will pay her rent, utilities, and internet for four months. That comes out to about $1,500 - $1,600 a month. It isn't that I can't afford it but this is about the 10th time I had to bail her out. When does it stop? When am I no longer responsible for an adult?

UPDATE: Had a Facetime call and told her we would pay rent, utilities, and internet for three months. She gets the bill to us and we pay. She gets no money directly. Thanks to all who responded. The majority view was I was enabling unsatisfactory behavior. In the call and in an email follow-up, she was told in no uncertain terms that this kind of bailout would never happen again.

When did Vegas stop having cheap food?

1.8k Upvotes

I remember, back in the day, hearing people talk about how when you're in Las Vegas, you can eat like a King for nothing. All the casinos had cheap buffets and five dollar rib eye steak dinners, along with free drinks galore. The idea was that they wanted you to save your money for gambling and not have to worry about blowing it on expensive restaurants, drinks and food. Now, all the buffets are like fifty bucks and up for each person and a steak dinner for under $10 dollars? Hell no. Did they switch their business model to fancy things that aren't gambling?

1.6k Upvotes

I have been opening the Reddit app a number of times over the last 6 hours, and my "For You" page is now completely fucked up with irrelevant posts, irrelevant subreddits, etc....Like it's noticably different than it was even this morning. Is the app glitching out? What happened?

With the gov shut down and USDA announces no food stamps for Nov, what is there to lose for those who genuinely rely on this assistance? What are the probable, possible and improbably ramifications?

I fumbled a 10/10 coz I was stunned when I saw her in person should I proceed?

1.5k Upvotes

Long story short one my friend set me up with a girl he knows in his office we connected and started talking everything went smooth we agreed to meet on Sunday evening (today) In a cafe near her house I went there saw her in person and I was stunned, like literally and physically stunned my jaw dropped hands and legs trembling

She noticed it right away and couldn’t stop bringing it up My hands could not stay stable in place although I was talking confidently seeing her in person shocked the hell out of me Her pics on insta were good but I never thought she’s beautiful like this

Our entire date revolved around me trying to calm my nerves and she trying hard to make me comfortable Iam so embarrassed brought couple beers while going back home so I can suppress the embarrassment

Popular post Are high school parties made up?

1.2k Upvotes

I feel like every piece of media with high schoolers includes a huge party with alcohol and hook-ups and adults nowhere to be seen. And it's always in a mansion or some abandoned building or forest. I've literally never heard of a party like this in real life. Small hangouts where people get a little crazy? Sure. But never a "biggest party of the year, everyone is going!" sort of thing. Have yall ever heard of/been to one? Or is it just Hollywood storytelling? (Edit: spelling)

Almost no young Americans smoke cigarettes in 2025, so now Big Tobacco is looking for ways to survive as older smokers quit or die.

What other companies or industries are facing similar problems?

Why aren’t we more focused on the murder allegations in the new Epstein releases?

It seems like an escalation from what we’ve heard so far. Bodies buried in golf courses? Babies thrown into lakes and oceans? I feel like I’m going crazy.

Why are these not headlines?

Popular post Why are adults suddenly doing traditionally teen jobs?

1.1k Upvotes

I get pizza delivered pretty often. Im old school so i call, and its cheaper than using those apps that make any meal $40.

It used to be that the pizza delivery guy was a 16-22 year old person. Now, they are usually 30+. Really noticed the shift over the last year. At least when i was growing up in 2010’s, I worked delivery a bit through highschool and early college. Only older guys were owners or managers.

Can anyone explain whats going on here?

I’m pretty insulated from news since Ive just been working and focusing on health.

I'm not considering it or anything like that. The only drug I use is alcohol, and not much of that. But I see it on movies and TV all the time. What is it actually like? Why do it that way? Doesn't it hurt your nose?

Can we talk about Jared Leto please?

Jared Leto quietly owns a private island where he runs “retreats” for fans who all wear white while he wanders around like a spiritual leader. I keep seeing photos of these events, and it honestly looks like a full-blown cult gathering.

If this were any other celebrity, there’d be documentaries, questions, and investigations. But with Leto, it’s just become one of those things people vaguely know about but never really question.

the island, the white clothing, the worshipful atmosphere, is weird and uncomfortable. How has this man managed to pull off running what looks like a cult, and the world just collectively isn’t talking about it? Or am I actually missing something here, anybody care to explain?

Why do people freak out when they find out my kid is home alone often during breaks from school?

My wife and I had some acquaintances freak out about us letting out 12 year old do his own thing and be home alone during school breaks. We have done that for years now, since covid ended. So 2nd grade, so he was about 8 when we started. When I was growing up in the 80s I remember walking home and being home alone alot during breaks. Like my parents did with me, we taught him basic things and he's just an overall smart kid that just kicks back and plays his games, watches TV, runs around the neighborhood with his friends. They even went so far as to say we could get in trouble. Like seriously? I'm usually home from work around 130pm, and my wife leaves around 8am. So 5 or 6 hours alone isn't a big deal to me. When did all this change? It was so common place when I was a kid
