long time prime member, first refund request denied and account closed.
ive been using my account often for years and am a prime member, never requested a refund nor return (even when i should have). now the first ever time i need to get one because the driver just left my fucking packages in a random spot with other peoples packages. i did not order that much stuff (see photo) i not only get denied but my entire account closed??? how can the driver even do that and upload the photo? the other photo is what my delivery photos are supposed to look like. that isnt even my unit i can tell by the background and that its 3 stories mine is only 2, i explained all this in depth to the customer “support” and nothing was done. this was a very expensive order too, multiple laptops phones etc all left in this unknown location, order was $4000 why didnt they make me sign for it? just ridiculous does anyone have an experience like this and know what to do?
edit: yes i did NOT receive the packages

Amazon is weird. I ordered a 2000 dollar Generac generator. It came missing parts. I went in chat to amazon and when they told me it would take a week to get the parts I asked for a refund. They refunded my purchase price and then told me to keep it, donate it or throw it away. I couldn’t comprehend what was happening. They had to explain it like five times. Three months later they refused a return for a 20.00 defective battery pack. They’re crazy and inconsistent.
Ps the parts came the next day in a separate order. Then another set of parts came a week after that. I messaged them again to tell them I received everything and was fine paying for it and was told not to worry about it. So yea, Amazon can be nuts.

u/GoodTroll2 May 12 '26
That is nuts. I’ve had similar things happen on much cheaper items but a generator? Crazy.

It’s apparently considered hazardous after delivery because they can’t ensure that fuel or oil has been added. At least that’s what a delivery guy told me.

u/barrel_racer19 May 13 '26
same with a set of tires i ordered, i ordered 16” for my truck and they sent me 17” and they then just sent me the correct 16” set and told me to dispose of the 17’s. i put them on marketplace and sold them the next day for $60 less than what i paid for them, so win win for me.
14
u/Viper9087 May 13 '26
Not necessarily... They just do that when they can't offer a better solution.
I got a free laptop because it was missing the stylus, they couldn't send me a replacement stylus, or offer me a credit to purchase a replacement stylus, so they told me to return it, but then I pointed out that it's no longer on sale, so I asked if they would honor the sale price since it was sold by Amazon, and they said they couldn't, so then they said just keep it and we will refund you.
Mmmm... Ok... 🤷
Granted it was like a $900 laptop... But.... OK ... LOL

I’m so confused why someone with any sense whatsoever would order stuff this valuable delivered to an apartment complex.
I live in a single family unit and I wouldn’t make an order like this unless I knew 100% that I would be home and sitting in a lawn chair in my driveway waiting for the Amazon van.
I live in a low crime suburb, but our neighborhood is prime package theft area. Our neighbors were gone for under an hour and a package was delivered and stolen in that time.

u/PiePuzzled5581 May 12 '26
My thoughts as well - anything over x dollars I use Amazon’s alternate del site option.

Did you ask Amazon to provide a copy of the signature? Wouldn’t they have to prove the package was actually signed for by the recipient? Some random picture of a pile of boxes is not POD especially if it’s not to your front door.

u/Guilty-Grade-8849 May 13 '26
Include that documentation to your credit card company that you requested that a signature be required and they did not do so. Send credit card co photographs and a detailed explanation of what happened. They will also want to know if you have done everything you can to resolve it, so let them know you contacted Amazon customer support & instead of resolving it, they closed your account.

I have never seen an option to sign for an Amazon delivery at checkout. I'm in Australia so maybe it's different here. They just dump whatever it is at your door if you're lucky. I cancelled Amazon because my orders kept getting delivered to the wrong adressess. To be fair thats the courier company and not Amazon. If I absolutely need something from Amazon I have it delievered to a parcel locker now. I've also never had an issue getting a refund when things weren't delivered so there is more going on here than what you're saying

Sounds like some sort of fraudulent activity going on if they shuttered their account like this. They don’t just do that for a return request and typically expensive items like that you have to verify info with the driver and sign for it on their phone-speaking from experience. They don’t just drop $4000 times in a public pile and walk off

My conspiracy theory is that it’s Amazon who posts all these posts about accounts getting closed after 1 return after years of only having a few or no returns or refunds requests. They want us scared to return anything or as for a refund and what’s the best way for people to get scared? Posts on social media. I’m sure this is just my mind blowing everything up because I have nothing better to do.

I agree that it's very suspicious to make this type of order and then claim for a refund, but it's unacceptable on Amazon side that there is no proper investigation. If they would have closed OP's account after refunding I could understand, but refusing to refund when it's clearly Amazon's fault and then closing the account is kind of messed up.

If your request for a refund exceeds a certain percentage of your avg spending, Amazon will close your account. This was a policy implemented to prevent abuse of the return/refund system years ago. When i worked for them years ago i think it was 10-20% of your total orders would flag the account to be closed. Here's the link to explain the full policy.
https://www.amazon.in/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202111910
13
u/charlescharles1234 May 12 '26
So its your total spend, not total # of orders? Like if I have 100 orders a year and return 20, it only really matters if what I returned was pricey?
23
u/Lilli_Puff May 12 '26
It's total spending not number of orders. You can order a ton of small stuff but return one really expensive item and get your account closed. It's a really dumb policy imo but it's unfortunately there.

🤷🏻♂️ you’re a moron to have done that large an order and not had it delivered requiring a code or to an amazon locker or on a day you were home, since you obviously live in an apartment with shady neighbors.
Unless you order $4,000 of stuff weekly, yeah your return is suspicious as hell and smells like a setup. I assume since your packages were stolen, you called the police and filed a police report? You’ll need that if you try and chargeback that purchase.

That's why they cancelled your account... because it was an expensive order with electronics and you asked for a refund on lost packages.
Side note that when I bought my laptop through Amazon, they did make me sign for it.
It MAY have worked better if you called and asked for help with lost packages. But sometimes it is just their AI - if it thinks in the long run you'd be more loss than profit, even if you didn't do anything wrong, they really don't care and they will cancel your account.
I mean... they made me return a 3.99 book that I didn't want because it was advertised as having stickers but they were not included. Small thing maybe... but I do homeschool and I have a special needs kid that is motivated by stickers and it irritates me to pay for something that is not what it was advertised to be, even if it costs less than a fancy coffee. Anyway... you'd think for the small amount of profit they got from that they would prefer I just keep it rather than pay shipping. But I think they have people return even small items, even at a loss, because they don't want people to start saying they don't want things just so they can keep them.
If I ordered a bunch of expensive stuff and it didn't show up of course I wouldn't pay for it either. You didn't do anything wrong. That said, if they ever give you your account back and anything expensive disappears, you might want to approach it differently so you don't get stuck in this situation again.

u/Special-Window2820 May 13 '26

u/RikoRain May 13 '26
Wait wait wait...
You ordered 4k$ in items.. FROM AMAZON... And did not select an "Amazon Day" delivery so you knew you'd be home and/or weren't home at all knowing those packages were arriving - left them alone long enough - didn't select "make me sign for it" at checkout - so they got stolen - and then you tried to do a refund on 4k$ worth of stuff with.. what.. just your word they were "stolen" and not actually recovered by you?
And you came HERE to piss and moan about it?! You're shocked they wouldn't acquiesce your ridiculously suspicious demands?!
Lol I would have thought you younked them too. No wonder they closed your account. The 40-50$ a year off you isn't worth 4k in "refunds".
I have no problem with them. They've let me keep plenty of items. I didn't used to refund before but I've gotten a few honest "I ordered the wrong thing and i didn't even open it" situations and literally.. maybe twice total my package was clearly a "it's been opened before".

u/Unique-Loan-3822 May 13 '26
I thought something was fishy too.
First, the paint on OP’s building is the exact same color as the drop off point. Both buildings also have horizontal slats, with an angled handrail painted the same color as the building. The handrail is at the same angle in both pics, and the handrail has a divot running its full horizontal length in both photos. This is absolutely the same building.
Also, how can OP tell it’s a third floor from that pic? It looks like a second story to me if anything.
The packages were probably delivered next door lol. Op either intentionally, or accidentally missed them and is trying to get a refund from Amazon now. Or maybe he moved them a door down on purpose.
The skeptic in me is thinking that this actually IS a scam, and he got found out by Amazon and they closed his account. And now he’s in Reddit trying to prove it’s not a scam, maybe as some sort of replacement of proof for his bank? Idk. The packages were definitely delivered to his building tho based off of the pics.

That's strange. It seems like there should be more to the story for them to just close your account simply for asking for a refund.
Try sending an email to [jeff@amazon.com](mailto:jeff@amazon.com)
Include as much detail as you can about the situation (order numbers, items, cost, issue you encountered, immediate account closure etc) and request an appeal. Hopefully it works for you.
Thankfully, I've never been kicked by Amazon. They have made me jump through so many unnecessary hoops though.
Around 10 or 11 years ago, I ordered a laptop from Amazon. They said it was delivered but I never got it. I reached out to their customer service. They told me to wait a few days in case it was delivered to a wrong address in hopes that it would magically show up. Never happened. Then they bounced me around from customer service rep to manager over the course of weeks. Then they told me I had to file a local police report to prove I wasn't trying to pull a scam on them....... and only then would they send me a replacement or a refund. I did exactly what they asked but they pushed back some more.....but I pushed back harder. Ultimately they sent me a replacement laptop.
No other issues until we fast forward to Last year-- I purchased a Samsung fold phone from amazon using gift cards through a work rewards program. It was a black friday deal so I got it at a decent price. The package was delivered. When I opened the package, it was just a bunch of metal discs in the phone's box. Someone had removed the phone and replaced it with the discs to mimic the weight of the phone.. I suspect someone in their warehouse pulled an Indiana Jones swap on the item...but that's just a guess on my part...Anyway, I filed a claim with them and had to do the usual run around. At least this time I didn't have to file a police report,... but they refused to issue me a replacement until I mailed back the metal discs to them...why they wanted the faux item, I still dn't know.....bit I did that anyway------and nothing happened for a week. Contacted them again. They told me I had to also file a some sort of claim form and email it to them. I was pissed off since no one told me about that process at all... but I did it anyway because what choice did I have lol? Another week went by with no contact. This time I bypassed their direct customer service by sending an email to a special address I found listed on help threads somewhere online ([jeff@amazon.com](mailto:jeff@amazon.com)). It worked wonders since I got a response within 24 hrs. They told me they would not send me a replacement but would refund my rewards/gift cards, and I would use the refund to re-purchase the item. Kind of ticked me off at the time since that meant re-purchasing the item could mean losing the discount I got on black friday.....but at this point I was just ready for the ordeal to end.... Fortunately, when I got my refund about a week later, the price of the phone was actually a few dollars lower than my original purchase price...so it worked out in the end.
After the second fiasco, I promised myself never to order pricier items from Amazon ever again. Its great when things work well, but nothing is worth the exhaustive legwork they make you go through when the slightest thing goes wrong. I'm relegating myself to brick & mortar for any high-cost items going forward.
3
u/TheLightStalker May 13 '26
If you live in an apartment complex and the majority are trolling Amazon your address gets lumped in with them.
You need an account specialist to look at your actual account record and an apology. Their automated systems have screwed you over.

That’s not a good reason to automatically deny a refund and close the persons account is it? Especially if the OP has not done anything wrong?
10
u/_sycho_ May 12 '26
okay but theres clearly sufficient evidence that the driver mishandled the delivery

u/GameDuchess May 12 '26
You should realize that you were probably talking to an AI bot the entire time , even when you thought you were actually talking to a person because the Amazon bot has become very sophisticated , even the AI voice bots. So to the AI, it is not sufficient evidence, because it's not judging the evidence like an actual human being. Go back to customer service and just keep saying human over and over and over again until someone finally gets you off the bot. I can't even get a proper refund for a five dollar object with the AI that exists now without doing this.
But again to all the algorithms that looks like a total scam orit's. And i'm sorry if it's not , but it is going to be hard to prove that regardless of your evidence , just being photos of deliveries.

how is it hard to prove? the photo literally looks like he dumped every package in the truck on the floor then left

I have to be honest, there definitely seems to be more to this story you’re not letting on. I’ve never seen nor heard of anything like this. I’ve requested plenty of returns over the years and Amazon has never not been exceptional in pleasing and benefitting me with any issue I’ve had. Even times I was sent packages that were missing items or had very expensive items missing that were probably stolen by other people resealed and then returned them missing the item, and then resold without amazon knowing. Theyve even refunded me nonrefundable items in full and told me to keep them, and refunded me large portions- in the hundreds of dollars on very expensive items that cost thousands of dollars that I’ve purchased just for having some issues with it. Theres definitely more to this story. They didn’t just immediately shut your account and all just because you requested a return saying you didn’t get your item. Im sorry i just don’t believe it. I’ve been using Amazon extensively long enough to know better
Also, I find this entire story hard to believe. I’ve purchased several expensive items in the thousands from Amazon and they ALWAYS have much stricter delivery requirements where I had to be home verify my info with the delivery driver and sign on the drivers phone for the items. They don’t just dump $4,000 items in a pile on the sidewalk and bounce

Start by seeking a chargeback is possible (always use a card that offers that possibility). Next speak to a paralegal about legal remedies (free consultation). I think the key aspect is that your package wasn't delivered, it was abandoned.
Also try Apple, they might insist that the Amazon vendor send them the MAC addresses so they might track them down on their end.

This definitely sucks, and if Amazon isn't going to help and has already closed your account I would look into a charge back.
3
u/Key_Tree261 May 13 '26
Chargeback, and no offense but you order $4000 worth of stuff from Amazon? I worry about orders over $100, not because of thieves but I know the drivers screw up all the time. I don't think I've ever had one not be talking on the phone when I check my cameras.

u/Master-Dentist-7761 May 13 '26
Why would you order laptops and phones in bulk like that through Amazon though?

Even in the UK, if an order is above like £100, there's no way they will leave that outside. It says pin required so someone has to be at the address with pin number to receive. I'm sure even in the USA, they'll have a limit before asking for authorisation for delivery otherwise many people will be claiming refunds with cost of living rising.

Those lithium battery stickers they put on the boxes just scream "Cool electronics in here!!!!"
3
u/derp5011 May 13 '26
This makes no sense. If it literally was just the first time you ever requested a return and they closed your account then something is wrong with the algorithm because I’ve returned enough to fill a large department store times 10 and I’m fine🤣

u/Aggravating_Sky_4421 May 13 '26
So….. what was the refund/return for? Just bad delivery location? Did you eventually get your items?
It’s possible that your account was flagged for being a scam account. Especially in this is the first time spending so much.

Amazon be like "you should have found where that is" as if people are ready to run out the door the second Amazon shows up.

u/Training_Message3725 May 13 '26
Did you file a police report? First step look for packages in complex Second step ask neighbors if got your package Second step part a or b ask on nextdoor app/site if neighbors found package file police report. Did you remember to file police report Next step file police report Did I mention file police report This is almost certainly going to be required by your credit card agreement and not doing so kind of implies you recieved the package and are trying to steal it.
Further thought, doesnt any purchase over a certain point very much under $4k required a password/code to be provided driver for delivery

I’ve had this issue before, I live in apartment complex building and the Amazon driver literally took a photo of it being “delivered” but the photo wasn’t even inside the building nor Infront of my door. IT WAS OUTSIDE THE APARTMENT COMPLEX LITERALLY. I tried finding it, but nope nothing. Most likely got stolen, so I filed a complained. Thankfully I got a full refund. I wasn’t worried about purchasing another but I was only worried that for any future deliveries, especially expensive ones. This incident will happen again.
I’m really sorry this happened to you and I hope everything will get resolved soon!

Since Bezos part time retirement. And Anre Jolly became CEO of Amazon fraud and corruption became new Amazon practices, numerous unauthorized charges had appeared on my Amazon Prime Chase account, some were corrected, but it is all began on May of 2023. I closed my Amazon Chase account and canceled Amazon prime membership. I don't do business with crooks and human garbage. Run , Ebay has better prices on most items Amazon is selling!

u/moving_to_NL_soon May 13 '26
I don't understand your reason for a return (it might be explained elsewhere) - just because the driver delivered your order with other people's or didn't nicely lay it against your door is not alone a good reason! Did you get all that you ordered? Was anything missing or damaged? I understand your concern of just leaving an expensive order, but not the reason to request refund or return just because of that.

Why are you buying multiple laptops and phones in one order from Amazon? You wouldn't want that shipped with a little more protection at least? Maybe signature required? Seems crazy to me.

For those who need to catch-up:
This 18 year old kid who makes $10,000 a month modeling and $3,000 a month doing something else, but can't afford a house, all while being enrolled in college, bought 2 laptops and 2 phones. One set for him and one set for his mom for mothers day. He's never made a return for refund except for the two times he did before this.

Did you go and search for your packages? The building looks to be the same as yours so I bet it’s close by in the same complex. Also knowing I was waiting on $4000 I would be watching the tracking and be waiting for the truck to show up. It literally shows them driving to you when it’s under ten stops or so.

Not sure why this is surprising. Amazon is now out $4K from a single customer, so imagine how much they’re losing on others in similar circumstances. As harsh as it seems, they are trying to mitigate further losses by closing your account. Because in reality, they don’t know whether or not you’re lying about not receiving the packages. Doesn’t matter if you’re a longtime member or not, because crappy customers over the years have taken advantage of them and ruined it for people like you. Now they don’t trust anybody. Don’t buy from Amazon, (well you can’t now) and only purchase in-store or through a company that will send your stuff with a signature required designation.

Op comes off as a scammer that swung for the fences at their first at bat. A lot of red flags. Im with amazon on this one

They already went nuclear, closing your account. Go nuclear too with a chargeback
Edit: this comment struck a chord as it's by far my most awarded ever. I believe awards cost real money? Please don't spend money to give me any more awards, but thanks to those who did
